This is just my view/theory…

Bazball is a cult, McCullum doesn’t rate the County System one jot. To him it’s the anthesis of what he’s about. He’s not in it for the slog of it. He loves racehorses, named his bats after them. He’s going through England and basically treating it like the yearling sales. Rather than let them develop and potentially learn bad habits, he’s taken Bashir & Bethell and dropped them straight in and asking them to learn on the job.

It’s an interesting experiment and threatens to turn English Cricket on its head.
Having someone at 3 who has a f-c average sub-30 and zero first-class hundreds* is interesting indeed.

*He may address that today as things are currently going.

You'd be struggling to find a dumber or more moronic one.

Some of Stokes’ shots have been pretty ordinary. Some of the reverse sweeps and laps and scoops in India were atrocious as well.

I thought the Bethel selection was ludicrous so I’ll put my hand up there but he did have one thing in his favour: Brian Lara said he was better than he was as a teenager.

There you go, way to jinx the bloke.

A lesson for all teams setting England totals for 4th innings chases. They hate draws and will try and chase anything so you can allow yourself to bat more time and set bigger totals knowing they will try and chase it and in trying to do so they will get out. Rather than needing to "dangle the carrot" like you do with other teams.

Santner a worthy Player of the Match and Brook a worthy Player of the Series even though he failed twice in the last test match.
Reckon Santner goes all alight, has a reasonable batting technique & a handy spinner. If he plays more test cricket, reckon he would improve a fair bit

Believe he is a scratch Golfer as well.

Kano got more runs and only failed once in six innings. Brook was bradman mk3 (o’rourke is mk2) first two tests but downed tools when his team was in need here.

Santner was the difference with seven wickets and nearly two fifties - the second morning took the game away even though it was like 40 runs. Said before that even ordinary spinners **** with englands batting and santner is very ordinary.

Inb4 phat going ‘he just took 13 wickets’ yeah will jacks took a 6for, Tom Hartley took a 7for. Allan border took a match 10 for, so did Michael bevan. All ordinary bowlers in my opinion, feel free to disagree but I don’t need to know.

You don’t get a first class record like his without being mediocre but he is improving I think that’s undeniable whichever way you paint it. And unlike Bashir with you blokes he doesn’t get a free pass every test, he’s in and out more than James Bond. So he does a pretty decent job for what his role is.

Thank you phat

Agree shoabs needs to get up or get out

Southee has played test cricket for 17 years and pretty good cricket in that time. He only played a 100 odd tests.
Nz barely play tests. Tom Latham has played their last 88 tests and that streak goes back to 2014.

I was surprised how few tests wi play as well, K-raig-G brathwaite has played their last 86 in a row and that also goes back to 2014.

Meanwhile Joe root has played 60 in a row going back to only 2020.

Windies have been given 2 extras next year which is good, an extra one for the Australian tour and I think an extra one for the series against India as well.

It will more than likely just mean an extra defeat though the home series against Australia might provide us a chance for a 2-1 loss which would be ok. At any rate more exposure against those sides will be good
