Our half-back line is as follows:

Robert Murphy - Joel Hamling - Easton Wood

The next poll (which is up now) requires you to pick four players - a first ruckman, and three on-ballers (to fill the centre, rover and ruck rover positions). Let me know if there are any issues.

Fascinating to see Rough leading the voting by some way after spending half his career in another position.

I really hope he stays on the park. Have a feeling he's going to be a very special player for us.

He's said publicly he wants to play ruck, he suits the style of ruck Bev seems to want, he's too good not not find a place in the team somewhere and we need a number 1 ruck. That's why I'd say the majority are backing him; it's a perfect solution. Now he just has to prove he can do it. Roughead locking down first ruck is what I want to see most next year, even ahead of Boyd breaking out (possibly because I've got more faith in Boyd - if it doesn't happen next year it will happen soon after).

completely agree but I reckon bevo wants 2 rucks. atm we have three ruck men (incl. Roughy) and it's been well publicised that we are looking for a ready made ruckman. this is what makes me think that he wants a specialised ruck man and for Roughy to swing.
Personally, If Roughy rucked and Toyd chipped in, that would allow for an extra runner like Mclean etc. and that would be great to watch

Your second point is what I think Bevo is after. I think he'd much prefer having another running player on the ground than a second ruck.

Then I don't understand the necessity to get a ruckman this year. Wouldn't it make sense to let Minson go at the end of next year and use the money he is currently getting to go after a good ruckman then? If we are going to pluck a ruckman out of the draft then he won't be ready for 2-3 years minimum by which time it's all a bit late if Roughy or Campbell doesn't come up.
Sorry all, I know this is the wrong thread for this discussion

I think he wanted a better ruckman than we have. Both Martin and Lobbe are 1st rucks I believe, which shows that's the kind of ruck he wants to play.

I went Campbell, reckon Rough is more a 2nd ruck IMO which may come back into fashion with the return of a four man bench. This may suit us with Campbell's tiny tank and Rough being made of glass, and they can switch on and off from the bench.

Not sure Rough is durable enough to handle say 80% 1st ruck either.

The other 3 seem to pick themselves as the poll shows. Loving that v good players like Stevens, Dahl, Picken and Macrae don't get a look in.

Great poll idea too Dannn...

It really hots up after this IMO. Wingers and flankers are really hard to pick. Suckling, JJ, Macrae, Dahl, Hunter, Picken etc are all quality picks

Reality is that it's a make or break year for Rough. He's 25 now. If he doesn't hold down the ruck spot he could genuinely be lost in this team so I really hope he takes the opportunity.

I did not realize being perpetually injured was a position Badger, where
is the love for big Tom Campbell get on board the Campbell for number
one ruck train stopping all stations to premiership glory.;)

Question for those voting Roughead (I did as well so not disagreeing with it): what was the deciding factor? Do you think he's our best option? Our most promising option? Just think he needs to be best 22 but don't know where else to put him?

I went Rough as our second ruck to Campbell. I'd like to see him play back/ruck. With the sub rule gone he can rotate off the ground in needed too. Big Tommy can play ruck/forward and rotate off.

Yes.

This, reckon he will be fantastic coming off the bench, so interchange for Roughy for mine, fill a hole wherever needed, ruck forward or back, to give a chop-out for whoever needs a rest ( or is getting toweled)

I'm surprised people have Minson in 3rd. He didn't have the best year but once the "give everyone a chance to show what they've got" was done and it was time for finals, he was still our goto option
My reasoning for picking Rough over Minson is quite simple to be honest. In order to progress we need to find a way to increase our number of contested marks all around the ground. When we need to kick to a contest we either gather the ground ball and run or concede the ground ball and look in trouble; very rarely do we completely win the contest, and that needs to improve. Boyd's continued development will help (and he'll be very good in my opinion), but he can't do it all himself. Many prefer to add another key forward to partner Boyd but I'm yet to be convinced on that. As such, I favour a ruckman that can present and mark overhead (or at least compete) and Roughead ticks all of these boxes. Minson is a dominant tap ruckman but he does not offer such prowess aerially and that's the type of ruck I favour with our system (Bev might feel differently). Others will prefer Campbell and I can see that argument, but I'm just commenting on the Roughead vs. Minson battle for now.

There's also the fact that Minson is unlikely to play more than 1-2 more years and we need to transition. Roughead deserves and needs that opportunity to prove himself capable of moving into the role full time.
