u only lost by 5 goals, Melbourne must have the wood on us.
notice how other higher placed sides, Hawks, Geelong only won by 5 goals or so against Melbourne also, cos playing Melbourne is a training session.We tried players in different positions, the doggies were playing around with uz today, eg Cross's quick handball to Aker 30 metre's out from goal, in a big game cross would walk back and slot it through..
Melbourne are pitiful get used to many many years of being out of the 8.

Luckiest team in the competition, yet to verse any teams at full strength. What a suprise! Ling and Ablett out next week for Geelong. The similarities between WB of '08 and Steven Bradbury are really striking.
Don't forget Essendon absolutely mauling them for 2 quarters until about 5 of our players went down with injuries at the start of the 4th and also Sydney not being able to put them away due to poor accuracy, Bock missing a shot in round 1, Freo and Richmond choke. Couple this with their great run with injuries and it's easy to see that they're a 5th-6th standard team in any other year with everything going their way.
Can't wait to play these pretenders again. Even if it's just to see Brad Johnson captain them. LOL, he's just awful.

Nearly every side the Dogs have played this year have had a handful of key players missing (Ablett and Ling this weekend it seems). And they themselves have had the dreamiest run with injuries imaginable. They're still a good side though and luck does play a large role in football (Geelong barely copped an injury at all in 2007).

I was at the game, the most you lead by was 10 points. I guess for Essendon that constitutes a mauling?

Doesn't hurt at all. Good sides have to occasionally spend time outside the finals in modern footy. Forgotten 2003 already? Just at different stages of our cycles. Difference being, we don't win spoons and we actually make grand finals once we get a good squad together.
