contendors for the flag this year at this stage, with regards to injuries?
Altona?
Spotty?
Werribee?
Hoppers?
St.Albans?

i think you may be after the under18 thread?
the only premiership contender's in this thread are:
Albion, Spotswood, Port Melbourne, Hoppers Crossing and Stalbans, with Sunshine just out of the picture at the half way mark i believe

I'll have a kilo of whatever you're on mate. St Albans may cause a couple of upsets but you couldnt possibly think they were a premiership contender?

10 weeks of football left? ofcoarse they can.
Round 1 they lost to Albion by 3 goals, and last week stayed with spotswood to the last quarter, maybe a bit more fitness and they can really be in the mix?

I agree, anything can happen over the next 10 weeks but Im questioning your logic when you say that St Albans are premiership contenders and Sunshine are a little off the mark halfway throught the season given they are above you on the ladder.

My premiership odds at this stage of the year are:

Port Colts $3.20
Spotswood $3.70
Albion $5.50
Hoppers $10
St Albans $16
Sunshine $20

If i was putting on a multi it would be:
Port Colts to win the seniors flag into
Spotswood to win the reserves flag into
Keenan to win the goal kicking into
Butina to win the league B + f.

noone is above me on the ladder:D.
reason i say this is we have played both teams, and Stalbans key position players were a lot more powerful then when we came up against Sunshine and i think sunshine have really dropped off over the last 3-4 weeks.

Sunshine are still a chance but, at this stage in the year i believe they are still behind the other 5 teams. However anything can happen in 10 weeks:eek:

This week will either prove my point or prove me wrong lol

$1000 on port melbourne- $3200
$1000 on Spotswood-$3700
$1000 on Albion-$5500
either come out $200 up or $2500
or if hoppers, Stalbans & Sunshine win im F*&KT

Quinny is correct, i have been sniffing around and got the word that jackson barling is on the comeback trail and after one game at willie and now a bye, he is available to play for spotty this week.

As would Taylor Collins from Werribee be available for Spotty if the 2 boys from Werribee are available for Albion ??

With all these "VFL stars" running around the result may not be a true indication of where the teams are really at..
Whatever the result Albion and Spotty will meet again last game of season before the finals..

As previous posts suggest, Spotty need to stop Butina. Albion player going under radar at present is Cam Barker.. This guy won the medal a few years ago and is back to his best.. Look for a big game from him against another quality side..
Theres alot of good players running around when sides play Yarraville, West and glenorden, lets see who stands up in the BIG games.

Kennan or Butina? Butina anyday, he only plays footy and inst worry about all the fan fare..

My tip - A draw!

Anyone think Glenorden can upset Hoppers? Heard Glenorden treat these games like their GF's in the local Birdsville Derby..

you treat them all the same, regardless of age, but you don't play less physical on someone because they are a kid..... I have played with kids who started at 15 and 16, when the opposition try to get physical, they stood up to them and the older players thrived off this.

Good to see the top teams getting their better players back, should be good coming home after the break with everyone putting strong sides out on the park, means the best teams should make it.

Thats when rock is at his best, when hes got 17/18 year olds playing on him, get a decent player and he goes missing and starts bagging his teammates again,

i think that if a player from the vfl hasnt played 4 there affiliated club before the bye he should be inelligable... its a joke all these vfl players coming back for 1 game the league must change this rule

So if a young VFL player has played all thier juniors at the club, which developed, coached and continues to support them, then they should be ineligible by your proposed rule. Just maybe that player wants to give some thing back. Maybe in a form of leadership, and encouragement to up and coming players and to show to all up and coming juniors that thier heart is still at the club, they should be disallowed for being succesful. maybe if more players showed that commitment our league would be better off rather than clubs paying big bucks for imports. try developing our own I say, and show off our young guns to the football community.
Or would you prefer it like the jets where Sexton bans kids for playing at thier own club during a bye to inflate his own ego.

These players have the right to play football each weekend. If a bye occurs in the VFL and this player has just come back from injury, don't you think it would be beneficial for him to have another game at any level? If you introduce a blanket rule, then players who are dropped for a game at VFL won't be able to play football at all. Perhaps for the rest of the year if they fall out of favor. If what you say is in the interest of fairness, then we should probably try to stop cashed up clubs throwing big coin at prize recruits.

The current system keeps these blokes playing footy for most weeks. Ever been left out of a side and spewed that you've missed a week?

The Jets thing is a catch 22. Sexton lets a kid play for his club and he does himself harm because he's tried to do too much. Maybe his coach plays him on the ball all match without a rest. He cops an injury which takes him out of the TAC for a few weeks and the Jets suffer. Perhaps the kid suffers because the recruiters haven't seen him for a while.
So Sexton would be trying to keep things in his control where possible. You let a kid go back to his local club and you cant keep an eye on it.
On the other hand the kid would love to play a game or two with his mates and may even help a struggling side get a win. That's the shame of it all.

With this, it's damned if you do, damned if you don't.
