What if no Pagan in 2003?

I felt that if he didn't sign on this week then he would most likely be leaving ,but I guess he's got a lot on his plate already this week so I'll give him until next week (win or lose),but if there's nothing about it by Wednesday he'll be gone I fear. Interesting rumour I heard today concerning Greg Miller becoming CEO at Carlton. I think Denis and Greg get along ok so maybe it's already been decided. Also rumoured that Richmond are talking to Denis' manager as well . I've been impressed by Paul Hamilton this year and he would be my choice as he knows the players, has a good knowledge of the development needs of the younger players and seems to really care. Importantly,he seems to be a good coach and motivator. I think I heard him say earlier this year that he wasn't interested in being a senior coach but I'm sure he could be convinced.

These have been my thoughts all along, how much is enough? How much money or how many properties etc do these guys think they are worth. It is not like anyone other than the players or the coaches etc are actually making a fortune out of football these days. What do they earn for us, basically the money goes in their pockets and we have the privlige of going along and watching them play football, then we have the wait see attitude of if we are going to be here this year or next. Obviously the alocades are not enough we have to keep increasing their wages and when it gets to the stage that we just cannot go any higher then we have to pull the pin, what do the coaches and players say then. I love Denis as much as the next person and I believe he has made North Melbourne what it is today, a club that is to be admired for how it keeps on going, but I also beleive that North Melbourne has helped Denis to achieve what he has achieved as well. If push comes to shove I would like to see Dean Laidely coaching us next year. If John Worsfold can do it then there is no reason why Liades cant do it as well. If Denis chooses to leave then I think he will be the one who misses out. I think that the players he has now will take us to another premiership in the next two or three years, and with the likes of Arch Stevo and Leigh Colbert around the club then they will instill what it is really like to be a Shinboner to these players.:D :D

Goodonya Daphne. I'm with you on everyting except the Dean Laidley bit. He'd be great but Darren Crocker is the still the man for me.

denis is worth alot to the club and i sincerely hope that he signs on. however, not at the expense of compromising the club as a whole. to state the obvious the club has limited financial resources and if paying the coach an amount that will affect our survival then don't sign him. we have to work in the best interests of the club.... and if there is a line beyond which paying pagan would be detrimental to the club then let's not cross it.

no-one is bigger than the club.... we have certainly found out this year that our best ever player was not bigger than the club. i hope that the probable best ever coach doesn't put himself in that same position. one fell to lust, let's hope the other doesn't fall to greed.... both seem closely related evils.

no-ones mentioned tony elshaug (?). he almost comes across as a pagan clone - i even reckon we could call him SOD - son of dennis.

admittedly his profile is low key and wouldn't get the punters and sponsors excited (which would be a huge problem in our state - an issue i reckon that would apply with paul hamilton) but hes been there for years so must be pretty good.

We better win it this year then, b4 players start wanting payments that match their performances. These guys arent going to accept low pays forever. I wish I could share the optimism of some here, but I cant. Trying to build a premiership team with a salary cap of 92.5%, an unproven coach and poor facilities seems like fantasy land thinking to me.
The money issues had a huge part to play in Wallace’s decision and will be playing on Denis’s mind. These two have stated they want to be career coaches, this means they need to deliver the goods. This will be extraordinarily hard to do when you start so far behind. 1.5m behind Sydney and 1m behind Brisbane, I believe it is.
Every clubs membership drops when performance does, our club is no exception. So where does the extra revenue come from to reverse the trend? But hey, lets not let the facts get in the way of a fairy tale story.
