Thanks JD. My reading of Eades comment was simply that on face value the sacking and timing of it did not add up. He also mentioned he had heard another of the "training services" personnel at SKFC had been given marching orders earlier in the day as well. Has this been substantiated?
No, the club have denied it.

No doubt some assistants will go but Eade was just rumour mongering.

The man is a spiteful twat.

the bit about it being personal. it was all rather abrupt, and to start before the finals even began ...
RB's problems with GT stem from issues within the club.

Nothing to do with the crap bee dee is sprouting.

From what I can gather, Thommo and the board didn't see eye to eye on the best way for the club to move forward. Simple really.
Thommo believed that him being in charge of just about every aspect of the football department was the best way for it to operate, from list management through to player contracts. The board wants to hire others, the best person in these fields to look after these issues and for the senior coach to be just that, a coach. Thommo didn't agree, therefor he gets his marching orders.

Do I agree that Thommo should have been sacked?? I don't know, I liked him as a person and I thought he was outstanding for our footy club.
People shouldn't take for granted the effect he has had at St.Kilda. When he arrived the place was a rabble, now we have broken our membership record for the 3rd consecutive year, we have a very competitive team on the park every week and the club makes million dollar profits and has been able to pay back an enormous debt without the need for handouts like some other clubs. He hasn't done that all on his own, but he did play a very, very big part.

the biggest prob i had with him stemmed from way the Blight thing was handled and his relationship with Buttersss, but watching that press conference was interesting .. the cold prez talking about 'resignations' and the clearly shocked ex coach keeping his temper in check while trying to, it would seem, not disgrace the SKFC.

There has been an ongoing slanging match.

Everyone outside St Kilda said what a great list they have and that only mismanagement was holding themn back.

Thomas kept saying that the list was over rated and that because of injuries not to expect too much.

I would suggest the power brokers felt Thomas needed to have more confidence in the list to perform and decided to replace him with someone a bit more optimistic. Internally (within club) he may have been super confident but his external communication has just seemed a stream of excuses which perphaps they got sick of.

Mate there are million theories about the Blight sacking and all I know is that it was most definately the best decision. GT's hand in it I don't know.
As for yesterday, I thought the club handled it quite well, GT especially he is a class act. I wish he had the chance to bow out on his own terms, but that is life. He should feel proud that he will leave the club in much, much better shape than when he arrived.
Like he said, the most important thing in all this is the St.Kilda footy club and hopefully the board get the next decision spot on.

Can't argue with that. It was just hard to watch Thomas endure the public humiliation.

What, like saying that the current list would win a flag within the next 5 years ?.

Is that not externally confident enough for you ?

CS will not be at Saints next year, even with GT gone.

Is that definately right?

Judging by Eade's comments last night and puting 2 and 2 together it sounds like CS was cleaning out his desk early this week and was quietly advised to wait a few days (ie till 4pm yesterday).

CS could wait to see who the new coach is then make a decision.

Surely it's due to his statements about Rob Harvey - that was very clumsy about a dead set club legend. Exit out / exit in ? What the .. ?

I assume he wanted Harvey to go.
Another example of his autocratic style. Who the hell does he think he is telling a club legend when to retire?

This is the best thing that's happened at St Kilda since those magical drafts.

Sacked after making a gf? I'd like to see that.
Tom Hafey at Collingwood in the late 70's early 80's (I think, I was only a little tacker when it happened) led the pies to 3 GF's and got the arse cuz they didn't win one. He wasn't the coach for the draw was he?

Okay here it is, been sitting on this.
Pres/coach fell out over money issues in which the coach owes the pres big time and the pres is yet to see any of it. It will come out unless there has been a agreement. Friends do not fall out over nothing and these two were thick as thieves .Media will one day get to the bottom of it if they are good enough. We are talking 7 figures here, not chicken feed. ( Stockmarket)

This is a very interesting theory. The suddeness of the sacking and immediacy of its execution left me stunned without any logical explanation myself. However, since Grant had complete control at the club including salary negotiations and financial arrangements, then bee dee's hypothesis would conjure up very serious implications within the club as well as with Butterrs.

However, I suspect the truth will be hidden beneath huge mounds of rumours and suppositions from all within whispering range of the Club.

I was told two weeks ago that Thomas would be sacked for reasons outside of football. I didn't believe it at the time and don't know if I do now

Last time I posted the reason it was deleted, but I would be interested to see if anything comes of it.

Maybe D Schwarze and A Hudson can get to the bottom of it?

Simple really - his coaching record was too successful

Saints don't know how to handle being in the top half of the ladder

Falchoon, why on earth would you keep pushing this barrow?

I'm intrigued

Even if the rumour is true would you want it made public? I mean, what purpose would it serve?

Big story if true, and the AFL media are not always the ones to go to for a big story.

I'm just fishing to see if it's true, how the hell would I know, but it sure is a big coincidence having known this guy (who told me) for 2+ years and he not once having mentioned anything like this to me before.

Bee Dee was on to something similar, but I'll await more reliable info before I give details.

Could very well all be baloney.
