Look i have no doubt that is the case for some sad sack men, however all those guys you mentioned also get shat on all the time.

AFL commentators are probably the worst sports callers i have heard across all sports i follow (a lot).
The comparison you are making is basically the same as when Goodes getting boo'd everyweek and me saying "oh but everyone gets boo'd, its not any different".

Yes there is also derision directed at those commentators, but the extent of trolling hits new levels with Kelly. Remember in 2009 when she called that Bartel point against the Hawks, she got so much hate from sad losers that she had to return to radio calling.

I honestly don't see that much anymore about her, her first stint was brutal and no one deserves to cop what she did.

I just don't think she cops any more than other commentators at the moment.

GWS was a better move than Tasmania, Tasmania don't need a team, it is and will always be a football heartland. No need to prioritise expansion there, it can wait.

Booooooo

Players like Toby Greene and Mitch Robinson add so much more to the game than benign cleanskins like Trent Cotchin and Dyson Heppell.

I think most people know that deep down, but seem reluctant to admit it for some reason or another.

Toby Greene is a campaigner but **** he's fun to watch. You never know what is about to happen.
Stevie J was the same. Weird unit but always made something (good, bad, indifferent) happen

The AFL should make an exception to the list rules and allow Andrew Phillips to play Seniors for Carlton next week.

On the Carlton side, we don't have any fit ruckman. Jack Silvagni played 90% game time after De Koning was injured yesterday. Our other options (Pittonet, Casboult, Mirkov) are injured. Harry McKay has some experience and is carrying a leg injury. Liam Jones is carrying a back injury. In the reserves Mitch Mcgovern did some ruckwork - he is a walking injury. Quite simply, to force Carlton to play either an undersized non ruckman or an injured player in the most dangerous spot on the ground for 4 weeks is a player safety concern.

Is this Carlton's own fault for poor list management? Perhaps... but in this case Carlton acted and used a mid-season draft pick on an extra ruckman (Mirkov, who did his knee one week later). It's an unusual situation but worthy of an exemption imo

So why Phillips in particular? Simple. Phillips was on Carltons list until 2 years ago when we made a goodwill trade to send him to Essendon - had had fallen to 4th in the ruck pecking order, was 27, and wanted to play so we facilitated a trade to get him a gig. This year, while Essendon have been in the hub he has played with Carlton's reserves team including playing today. If Essendon agree (and don't need him themselves) it seems a logical fit given the existing friendly relationship. If Essendon want/need him then it's obviously different.

It would be am unusual exemption but we are in unusual times. List sizes were cut, the preseason was shortened, injury lists are longer across the league, and Carlton have an unusual injury list weighted towards talls. Unusual times = unusual measures

Not sure why you'd put Robinson in the same sentence as Greene. Robinson is a psycho but generally plays fair, Greene is an incredible talent but a genuinely dirty player and shit human with a long history of intentionally hurting people on an off the field. It's nothing to do with "cleanskins".

I’m just saying that heels are great for footy. Most other countries recognise this in their sports.

I agree with what you're saying re: potential but thoroughly disagree with the moral behind it. The AFL shouldn't just be about expanding or earning more money; the AFL is the caretaker of a huge part of Australian culture and should reward the traditional states and fans.

Focusing solely on money and expansion is how we'd end up like american sports or soccer where money rules all.

Dustin Martin is a genuinely likeable guy. The media craze about him is what leads to the hate. People just don't want to accept greatness, particularly in this country.

Who hates Dusty? Can't say I see many people saying much bad about him. Certainly not on the Dangerfield or Cotchin level.

Had his faults Johnson but he was piss funny to watch a lot of the time.

the famous moment where he sidled his way into an impromptu team meeting between three of his opponents was probably my favourite onfield incident that wasn’t actually football related

Tasmania shouldn't get an AFL team. If the Gold Coast are struggling to keep players how do you think it will go with 18, 19 and 20 year olds or anyone really having to live down in cold little Tasmania.
