80s/90s

Going to the milkbar and playing on a SF2 CE machine inside or just outside the front door.

Friday night visits to the videoshop and picking out 5-7 weekly movies, or a 3-4-7 night Nintendo or Sega game hire. Also being able to play games in most video shops (saw a lot in different stores over the years Final Fight, Chase HQ, SF 2, TMNT, Daytona!!, T2 Pinball).

Since my post is game themed, the 90s was great for arcade game places like Time Zone (so much better than the 90% of prize machines that take up floor space today). Had quite a few Time Zone birthday parties - was amusing the amount of hangers on I had at school.... that would ditch me days later or once discovered they weren't invited would ditch me beforehand.

My fav Time Zone place was multi level, small yet large to me. Knox was massive!

Addam's Family pinball!!!

Never saw that at a videoshop, but AFP was at many Time Zones I frequented along with Simpson's, Indiana Jones, Star Tek, Elvira etc.

My dad took me to another arcade place in the city. Had all kinds of machines I never saw before including Playboy Pinball :p.

Also the fun factory was very much fun!! Recall many games there back in the day (granted my main memories are of Popeye and Robocop of all games).

Rollerama in Scoresby!
I remember they had a selection of games, one being Wonderboy in Monsterland (someone literally picked me up and moved me, and took over my game :( ).

I recall going there many years later for a school excursion and a lot of those games were still there including TMNT!

My nearest example (being rural) was Ulladulla Funland Park, although used to occasionally visit the Timezone near my cousins in Randwick. Arcades aside, Jamberoo Recreation Park was also only an hour or so away and must've gone there a dozen times for school, bdays and the like, was always a fantastic day out.

I can remember when Sega World Sydney was open in Darling Harbour and walking by there a couple times (Darling Harbour was so vibey then) but unfortunately never went in during its few brief years of operation. I did visit Xerts space-themed restaurant not long after it opened but that similarly only lasted a few years. The Fox Studios area also opened around then, it was right next to the SCG so often when I'd see the Swans I'd nip in there as well. And of course the Sydney monorail, rode that a few times but it was more of a lark than a genuinely useful affordable option.

That drive through the Illawarra got much more interesting when the Nan Tien Temple came in, wasn't long after I moved to NSW, would always catch your eye and must've driven past there a thousand times. I loved the Chilis restaurant in Fairy Meadow that was open for about a decade, but Hogs Breath Cafe seemed to be dominant in that niche by the mid 2000s. Oporto back when it was mostly a Sydney thing with the original store and a few early franchise stores was a lot more hype and of more reliable quality. My grandma lived on Terralong st (main street) Kiama and so I regularly went to that corner Red Rooster, the Ice Creamery, the terrace shops, the blowhole, etc.
