The Mountain Between Us (2017)

I wanted to love this. I love all the actors, its a good premise, the scripting was good enough, the scenery was beautiful. The acting was good without being great (apart from Beau Bridges... bloody awful).

Winslet still a stunner. And Elba... guy is built like the proverbial.

I was entertained, I left satisfied but not moved or thrilled.

Its a B movie. Completely neutral. Wouldn't recommend it, but wouldn't say not to go either.

Haha 12-year-old me saw this at the cinema. Watched Jaws for the first time a week or two prior on free-to-air TV (which in hindsight probably wasn't a coincidence). A little young to realise they put some stuff in there just for the wankers.

My wife was all "why did she need to take off the wetsuit" and I actually justified it "wetsuit is rubber so she doesn't get electrocuted, it's science"

thats why i assumed she did it

The Reef. Good movie. One of the better shark movies. One thing annoyed me though. Why didn't they grab a few knives from the boat to protect themselves with?

There's always plot holes like that.

Wolf Creek shits me to tears why they didnt just beat his head into a pulp when they had a chance??? Ffs...

My last week:

JAWS (1975)

Awesome and terrifying. I wont be going to the beach for a long long time. 9/10

Moneyball (2011)
Interesting but dull, probably the only good film with Jonah Hill. 5/10

Stand and Deliver (1988)
Not as good as I remembered but still a solid teacher flick. 6/10

Talent for the Game (1991)
Another Edward James Olmos film. I enjoyed this more than Moneyball,
this is on par with other baseball movies released around this time. 7/10

12 Angry Men (1957)
How good is this movie, all that talent in one room and it is riveting. Best courtroom movie I've seen. 10/10

Because they were scared shitless in an uncotrolable, unfamiliar, unrecognizable situation.

It’s like on the conspiracy board about the Vegas shooting - “why isn’t there more cell phone videos”.

FFS, cause thats the first thing I’d think of with bullets buzzing by my head, get my phone, unlock it, find video option, press play...

I loved Moneyball - but then I like baseball and have a very analytical mind. I can see how most find it boring but I thought it was great.

I'm actually astounded there is any footage of it at all- unless from fixed CCTV cameras. Or if you are safe somewhere with cover. Still dunno if I'd be filming even then.

Train to Busan 8/10

All the feels. This is what happens when you invest in scriptwriters and editors. Take notice, Hollywood!

Also, the direction to the actors was really adaptable. In the confines of the train the emotion is conveyed through glances and subtlety. In the open they are more outward. Filmmaking 101.

I ******* hated people speculating how it could work in the AFL. Because the AFL is just like MLB with its salary cap and draft
It only works in baseball because it's so stat orientated. Would never work in a game that flows as freely as ours either.

There's stats in the AFL but you need a club or media organisation's budget to pay to see them, which is bullshit.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 1 and 2. Ohhhh the feels in these two movies. I haven't seen either of these since they were at the movies and I thought they were both better this time around. Not quite as good as The Half Blood Prince movie but hold their own none the less. 7.5/10 for DH 1 and 7/10 for DH 2.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Love how it alters the structure of a typical action movie by simply inversing the action scenes with all the normal scenes. So you get three action scenes as the three acts and the tiny bits of story splattered inbetween, and the effect is a movie that never feels like it takes it foot off the pedal.

Die Hard. T2. Fury Road. The holy grail.

Made the effort to go to the cinema to see Geostorm. Thought it looked effect worthy.

It's a steaming pile of rotting sewage and puss.

Take the unbelievability of Gravity (tech perspective), the ra-ra bullshit of Independence Day, and the shameless cheesyness of any shit rom-com and multiply by 10. A must not see.

Gerard Butler is starting to shit me off. He'll do any movie for the cash and he's not that great to begin with. Ed Harris shames his resume with this one. Andy Garcia can hang up the comeback boots, he's cooked.

From pathetic to sublime...

Split with James McEvoy. Wowee, Oh Boy, Big Boy McEvoy! Brilliant performance. Brilliant movie. Anna Taylor-Joy did a great job too (she's hot as too, but that's so wrong in the context of the movie... I feel shame )

thought this would be a good movie, but after reading your review and a few others, it looks like this will be a pass for me

The Handmaiden - From the director of Oldboy comes another very solid piece of work, albeit very different from his previous films that I've seen, intriguing story & looks great - 8/10.

Gravity

Cops a lot of flak for the (lack of) story line and a weaker 2nd half, but by god the first 30 mins is one of the best displays of pure suspense I have seen.

Good memories seeing it at the Imax, insanely well suited to 3D.
Never understood the flak for this. One of the more suspenseful movies that I can remember. I saw it in 3D as well though, so maybe that had a big impact.
