Saw The Disaster Artist this afternoon, thought it was brilliant, got funnier the longer it went, had no knowledge of The Room beforehand.

Only the Brave is another great one out at the moment, about a firefighting team in Arizona. Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connolly all good. Can't get enough of the biographical dramas like Patriot's Day, Deepwater Horizon, Hacksaw Ridge

The Room

My only regret is not watching this with a group of people just to see and hear their reactions to this.

Once I heard that this was "the Citizen Kane of bad movies" then you know it's going to be bad so you have that expectation. It was soo much worse than I ever imagined. I'm kinda speechless at the moment about how bad it was.

I highly recommend people experience this. You will laugh and you will cry.

Only the Brave

Thought it was going be another Deepwater Horizon-esque cash-in on recent American tragedy but it's so surprisingly emotional raw and really works on that front where so many disaster biopics fail. Huge gut punch of an ending too (made all the more effective by how it makes you feel toward some of these characters).

I just found this review on IMDB which is pretty damn funny:

This film is like getting stabbed in the head.

You know that foreign exchange student from high school who used to creep out all the girls with his clumsy leering and broken-English pick-up lines? Well, he's all grown up and somebody gave him money to make a film. Tommy Wiseau, whose accent could best be described as "half-drunk Croatian cyborg", stars as Johnny, the man with the most sculpted ass in all of San Francisco. His girlfriend Lisa, played by oft-topless Juliette Danielle, seduces his best friend, played by department store mannequin Greg Sestero. To go any farther with the plot would be overdignifying this laugh-out-loud crapfest. Imagine a two-hour episode of "Red Shoe Diaries" written and directed by Balki from "Perfect Strangers". Trust me, this is the worst movie you will ever see ever in your entire life. Ever. But is it pathetically awful or sadistically hilarious? What you think will depend on your life experiences and viewpoint. But we can all agree, it's a big, steaming nut-filled turd.

That pretty much sums it up haha. My feelings was this after the movie:

If you are so inclined I'm pretty sure cinemas still screen this every now and again.

Oh you're in Tassie.

If you're in Melbs I know Nova do it.

Dunkirk

While the cinematography was fantastic, I found the story somewhat disjointed and disappointing. Not a bad film, but not as good as everyone was saying when it was in the cinema. 6/10

Kingsman 2

While I loved the quirkiness of the first, I don't think this film came anywhere near replicating it. For a start, it went way, way too long. The villain was stupid, and the CGI enhanced fight scenes became boring and predictable. Not even Elton John could improve it. Disappointing. 4/10

I thought what Nolan did with Dunkirk was quite brave and I for one, have little issue with any lack of character development in many movies.
I also thought the score was bombastic, but it did do what it set out to do, even when I didn't want it to. i.e. I was aware of it driving the movie at times, but still couldn't help myself from getting overwhelmed by the visual/aural assault.
Some parts struck me as being just a little silly also (you know which scene in particular) but something quite delightful was accomplished overall, here.

Overall, I don't know how everything that was achieved was packed into less than 2 on-screen hours and for that, this gets a bump in score. 8/10

Se7en

Saw it at the cinemas back in the day and rewatched it tonight. It's still slick and gruesome and has such great twists along the way. That ending...

I think it's held up very well and remains a classic. 9/10
Agreed, brilliant movie. I imagine it's easier to believe Spacey as the bad guy now as well haha.

Mother! (2017) - Finally got round to watching this. Pretty weird stuff, last 40 minutes were intense/insane. Some of the allegorical stuff went over my head but I still enjoyed this. Sure, it's pretentious, but it's still entertaining. 7/10

Bone Tomahawk (2015) -
This was awesome. Wasn't expecting all the wry humour or the unbelievable gore at the end. Kurt Russell is a total badarse and has some of the best facial hair you'll ever see in a movie in this one. Great western. 8.5/10

Yeah. This was great. :)
One of the best 'surprises' in recent years............Western though? Sort of.

James White (2015) - A film with a micro focus looking at a troubled young man in NYC. Christopher Abbott is an actor with a lot of potential. Didn't think much of the film as much as I did that performance 6.5/10

Allied (2016): Owes a lot to its stars. An classic style noir spy film with modern day direction. I'm a sucker for anything war related. Really took off in the middle part I felt. Brad Pitt is more interesting in non-leading man roles but he and Cotillard carry it pretty well. 7.5/10

Wonder: Sappy and hallmarky (i'm going to call it playdoughy) like an episode of One Tree Hill but I lapped it up like a thirsty dog! I liked the different point of view arks and especially the sister's point of view. Dragged on a bit too long. I was in the mood and needed to kill time and it delivered. Reading Cinema is good value :thumbsu: 7/10

The Foreigner - Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan. If you're Jackie Chan fan then you will love this movie imo. Probably one of his best movie although we see a different side of JC - a more serious tone movie rather than his usual action/comedy. 9/10
I'd been waiting months for it, probably my most anticipated movie of the year. Did not disappoint. Really enjoyed it. Jackie was great, Brosnan also solid.
So good I've already seen it twice in a week!

Only The Brave.

I loved this movie from the actors and the people they were portraying.

Movies like this always have a way of getting to me and I just thought this was brilliantly done.

4/5

Big Jennifer Connolly fan.

Rated this flick. Very much a Perfect Storm/Deepwater Horizon feel. Pretty much another character study of a crew of working class guys in an extreme situation.
