Continued in Part 7:

X Men Dark Phoenix: My kitten did a s**t on the laundry floor, that was more fun to clean up than watching this. What was Fassbender, McAvoy, Lawrence and co thinking signing up for this?? Xmen First Class was first class, DOFP was a solid entertaining film, Apocalypse was an average flick with a couple of good scenes. Dark Phoenix was utter crap. 1/10. To the producers
I usually feel bad for the actors on this. In reality an actor is a smallish part of the production and on paper the Dark Phoenix story and even the way they planned on telling this should work pretty well.

Then Fass shows up and just nothing works but you might not even know until the finished product is up on screen.

The R-Patz one? I quite enjoyed it.
I really could not get into it. I loved the inclusion of Serkis, he is fast becoming one of my favourites, but I felt that it dragged on a bit.

Morbius... I knew it was going to be pretty average, was just putting on something the wife didn't want to watch cause she was busy, but gee, by any superhero standards, this is piss poor. None of the major character developments are earned or carry any emotional weight at all, the story is rushed (just like Venom 2... now I've often complained about ridiculous run times of superhero movies, but just over 90 mins sans credits isn't giving you enough time to flesh out the characters), even the acting is weak, even though they have some solid actors, the special effects is weird. And the post-credits scenes are laughably bad. 3/10
Overrating it with a 3/10, but otherwise you are pretty bang on.

Actually lolled.

Saw The Rock on tv last night.
Was entertaining and had Sean Connery in it but the storyline was completely stupid. I suspended belief to be able to enjoy the movie all the same.
Had Ed Harris and Nicolas Cage in it too.
Surprised I'd never come across it on tv before as it looks like a movie from early to mid 90's so it probably 25 or so years old.

Its the Jean Grey/Phoenix curse, didn't work for The Last Stand and certainly didn't work for Dark Phoenix. Having an all powerful super mutant that even if all the other mutants combined their powers would still get their asses kicked makes it boring. The other Xmen's worked because they all have unique powers that can counter others or be of use for a purpose. They were good as it is cool for the audience to imagine what it would be like if you could freeze things, shoot laser's out of your eyes, control metal etc and try to live in society with a gift. Having a superpower so immense that nothing can overcome you and you can control anything you want is as I said boring and stupid.

Michael Fassbender is one of those pretty good actors that hasn't made a lot of good to great movie type guys.

Most big stuff I've seen him in has been big average.

Shame, Macbeth, The Light Between Oceans, Frank, Hunger and Eden Lake are all really good and he’s really good in them.

He’s also in 300, Inglorious Basterds the X-Men stuff and the Alien stuff which are varying degrees of good and hes generally really good in them too.

His Magneto has been excellent.

This is a terrible take The Rock is a treasure of that era that is flawless.

As a counter argument, he also starred in The Snowman

I thought it was pretty good overall but yeah, way too long. Nearly 3 hours and there just wasn't enough going on to justify that kind of length. Could (and should) have easily been at least 30 minutes shorter and would have been a much tighter, more focused movie.

I also take points off for having a really cool Batmobile then hardly using it.

Look, I considered giving it a 2, but I stuck with it to the end. Plus, it wasn't offensively bad, just underwhelming and pointless. I almost marked it down a point for the 'surprise' reveal at the end and two post credits scenes, all of which were terrible.

Well, it isn't FLAWLESS...

The hot chick from the Las Vegas tv show is in a sex scene and keeps her clothes on... To nitpick that was an opportunity for where more could have been achieved.

Most of the first paragraph don't sound like big budget flicks, or he was supporting cast.

I don't think he's nailed a big budget main role yet, outside of some X-Men.

Fish Tank is good. Made me think of EastEnders if it were real life and the characters lived 90 minutes outside London.
Yeah fish tank is a good movie. Sad but good. Especially since the chick isn't an actress.

Inglorious Basterds and 300 were both pretty big. But that's generally he nature of the beast, actors get a chance to excel in smaller, character-based movies. Big budget movies are about appealing to the masses and lots of explosions, it's rarer to win acclaim for these. The fact he nailed one role and was OK in another (Alien) is about all you can hope for.

Fish Tank is one of the more depressing and unsettling films I can recall.

Just so bleak, and the thought of that girl being spat out by the system like that is bleh.

Well made, and Fassbender was good as he usually is, but I didn’t feel great afterwards.

Ahhhh yeh, didnt realise you were talking big budget.

The first paragraph is choc full of mostly smaller indie types that are really really good that he is really really good in.

Bigger budget stuff… I think he’s still been good (he’s the best part of assassins creed) but results of the actual films have varied.

ha ha, your take on my take is terrible...
I was having a laugh mate. We all love the rock but like most of the 90s action flicks they are absolutely bonkers.

It’s suprising you’ve never come across it, was huge when released and as Shell mentioned, if you’re of a certain vintage it was on monthly on the FTA channels for a good couple of years

Yes, when I found out Sean Connery was in it, I was thinking to myself how come it escaped me. I was actually close to turning it off until he showed up.
I guess it shows to me I been watching less FTA tv than I even thought. Tv has been so shit for so long now, I guess I only been mainly watching sport on tv longer than I thought.
