I loved the witch and I think the Northman is fantastic as well.

The lighthouse didn’t work at all for me.
Ooh I forgot about The Northman. That also looks mint.

Red Rooms (started on SBS on demand but the ads were taking me out of it too much - found a copy on the high seas).

Great recommendation from some posters on here. Slow-burn psychological thriller at its finest. 9/10

The promotion of Northman was extremely misleading, you can't avoid trailers at the cinema but its a good example of why I don't like them

they either ruin all the main plot points or pretend the movie is something it isn't to try and attract a larger audience

Yeh a lot like Drive it was promoted as an action film when it was never gonna be that. If you knew nothing about Eggers you’d have every right to be shitty that movie wasn’t what they made it appear.
Just on Eggers, that Nosferatu trailer looks great. Huge fan of him outside the Lighthouse.
Same. The lighthouse just didn’t land at all for me.

Spot on regarding the marketing of Northman. Found it to be a big disappointment. Witch excellent. Lighthouse i enjoyed..a bit nuts but enjoyed the two actors and feel of how desolate a place it was

Home Alone

Not to overstate it but McCauley Culkin was some sort of child actor.
Yes he was

I watched Home Alone tonight and its as good as it ever was. The hectic chaos of the opening scenes to the mad dash to return

Culkin is on top with this role and his expressions help sell the movie. His interactions with the adults is fantastic - checkout chick - and Roberts Blossom who (to me ) grounds the movie and gives a good respite from all the frenetic action

This and not Die Hard is the ultimate Xmas Movie

Carry-On

A lot like Red One but imo a bit better. Low expectation action/thriller that hangs together pretty competently and had a pretty rewarding payoff.

I’ve read a lot of criticisms about plot armour, I’d have to assume those people haven’t watched a lot of action adventure films. This one absolutely had it but not excessively or outlandishly.
I enjoyed it. Watched it last night and it was perfect for winding down on a Sunday night. Tight little action/thriller. I like Bateman and Egerton usually and thought they played off each other well.

The Lion King (live action remake)

Was on TV the other night so had a gander. It... exists? I don't know how to describe it. It feels like an expensive high school project. There's really nothing going on here other than visual effects? I hate to be a back in my day, but it feels like every single aspect is lesser than the original. The acting and casting is worse. The redone music and songs are worse. The slight adjustments and additions add nothing. It's probably an ok time passer, if you are with kids or something, but the only part of it that had any staying power, was how unnecessary it all felt. There's not a single reason this should ever be watched rather than the cartoon animated film.

A film that was produced and released/10

Yeah it's not good. And the extra Beyonce song feels very shoehorned in and completely overwrought. The original is far far superior.

There’s a prequel out soon in the same style about Mufasa too….

Had too many conveniences to suit the plot.
1. You cant traverse LA easily yet the antagonists could jump from one house to another like it was a miracle during peak holiday rush hour in LA. And find information and hack into all relevant databases.
2. The ability to drive around peak travel time at will through LAX in itself was a holiday miracle. Not to mention the prime ability to find a prime place to shoot right into the terminal check in. What are the odds.
3. The police all on holidays? you can not walk through any airport in the modern world without an influx of police like everywhere. Yet none, not 1 anywhere in the terminal. how convenient.
4. All the workers just disappear underneath the terminal?
5. Security would have had the security feeds too hence the cameras. A TSA agent acting really weird and being really slow would have been picked up immediately.

It was ok. A bit of fun. But the antogonists seem to be able to just do what they want.

Whoever said it was a modern die hard should be fired from their promotional job. Because it certainly wasnt.

Heretic, a psychological horror with Hugh Grant as the antagonist. Grant, somewhat surprisingly, is really, really good, totally against type playing a creepy religious nutter who preys on two visiting mormons.

The whole thing was very absurd in terms of suspending disbelief.
Also dumb stuff like the sniper red dot on her forehead when filmed head on, when the sniper van was to her side.
And also he was acting so dodgy with the earpiece in wtf!

Red One... went in with lowish expectations and they were basically met. They play it very straight for the most part and so I think they got the tone wrong. Either they should have targeted adults more and really leaned into the action or targeted kids more and amped up the humour. As it is, it plays like a straight action movie with ridiculous mythological aspects. The cast have decent chemistry, the kids liked it, it's watchable but won't ever be a Christmas classic. 5/10
