When will the Carlton FC Arrive? Part 2

Sweet just in time for some crazy vossy trade deals

This could not have worked out better for the casual observer.

I love Crazy Vossy at trade time :)

I love a bit of a gag too here and there, but you do realise that list managers and footy bosses do the trading at footy clubs yeah?

It's a fun nickname and all, but coaches haven't been the ones making list decisions for 20 odd years, probably more. Voss was my third preference for coach, but this is a shit criticism that gets put his way.

I wish him luck moving forward but I won’t be loosing any sleep over port loosing him as an assistant.

Obviously it’s hard to know how much was the line coach or the head coach but when Voss took over our midfield for 4 years from 15-18 we went from a midfield that was free running with quick ball movement, to hardely being able to move the ball, disorganised and unaccountable for a number of years.

Our midfield in 2014 took us to within a kick of the GF to then missing finals the next 3/4 finals after him taking over.

He took our best midfielder in Boak out of the midfield for a number of years before he returned under a new coach and has been in brilliant form since.

Then from 2019 onwards as our senior assistant who knows what that actually entailed as we’ve had the same structural issues over the ground for years.

But good luck to him 👍

Not even sacked - we have posters on this thread saying a coach is no good because he only made 3 grand finals and didn't win any of them.

AFL supporters are idiots, mostly because we care more about sticking the boots into each other than any balanced analysis.

Bad take, Ross is also no good because he likely didn’t fit in with our culture, has a history of sexually harassing a club employee and didn’t want to go through an interview process.

The fact he has never won a grand final is just the cherry on top. His brand of footy has been found wanting and has never rung true in the big dance.

There were plenty of red flags from the start with Ross. Glad we didn’t just appoint him on the spot which would have been a very easy decision.

Pies wanted any coach ...got knocked back by most...then appointed a nobody, Interesting to see how both perform, Voss clearly ahead as he has a much better list to start with.

Carlton definitely have the better list to start with and really should have got someone ready to take them to the top 4, not someone who needs to prove they can coach.

They needed a proven winner.

Have they even improved on Teague?
Bizarre off-season.

Actually don't think it's the worst outcome tbh.

The comments linked a page or two ago from a Brisbane poster are worth reading to give some context to his time at Brisbane.

Did OK with a pretty bog average list, probably wasn't the one that made the shitty trade decisions, and was willing to go away and become an assistant coach to learn more and develop as a coach.

That's why it was such a crazy thing for Crazy Vossy to get involved with. It should've been left to list managers without him jumping in.

Hopefully Crazy Vossy can be contained by the Blues.

Incredible isn't it. We're the only sport in the world who thinks a sacked coach means they're no good. Jose Mourinho gets sacked, then gets head hunted by bigger clubs! Just pathetic.
It seems to be a recent phenomenon though. Back in the 80's and 90's hiring sacked coaches was quite the norm, and often got results. Look at Parkin, he went through the Hawks, Roys, Blues x2. Still went OK.

Bum Phillips hit the nail on the head - "There's two kinds of coaches, them that's fired and them that's gonna be fired."

As for the Voss appointment, I can't say I'm thrilled. But at least it ain't Lyon!

What do Chris Scott, Brad Scott, Leppitsch, highly rated assistants Nigel Lappin, Luke Power, Craig McRae and Blake Caracella all have in common?

They all won flags under the captaincy of Voss.
Who does newly crowned Brownlow winner Ollie Wines credit as a major influence and the best motivator he's seen?
Voss.

He may or may not do well, but he's clearly a strong leader, proven winner and has obviously worked on his deficiencies from his first time as head coach.
I get that it's 'cool' to pile on the Carlton hate, but I think this is very premature.

Why is Voss getting so much hate? Was gonna be coach 2 years ago before the players intervened and wanted Teague, who then turn on him. It's great that someone of his footy calibre is getting another crack.

,..
And there is the Rub..

Voss looks like he should be a good appointment.

His first task is to put a hard eye on the list. Without doubt SOS recruited aheap of players who are not up to it.

Hard calls are needed to help the Blues get closer to arriving.

Reckon George Hewett will be good for the Blues in setting an honesty standard.

But that doesn't suit the "LOL Carlton" brigade.

Didn't get knocked back by crazzy Vossy, he's been rejected by that many clubs he's like that desperate kid just trying to get anything.

I guess he's the only one crazy to take the poisoned chalice at Carlton.

Probably because Jose had actually coached titles at other clubs.

Hello Tinman. I won't go through all the reasons why the bar is set pretty low at CFC.

Vossy may be the 4th choice but he is a sharp appt provided he puts a dose through the SOS made list.

Excellent appointment. Clarkson was never a real contender which left Lyon remaining as the first choice. Things didn't work out there and Voss is now the boss.

Carlton have lacked strong leadership for a long time and now they've got the games greatest ever captain at the helm, pun intended.

This will give Carlton a new harder edge.
