many were justifying their deaths as 'that will teach them'
seems more than a few hypocrits.

Nah got a point Dan. It seems the media and our politicians only care about a tragedy if it involves white people, or if it is on such a scale they cant help but face it (Boxing Day Tsunami).

Get it in perspective guys, 38 people have thus far been confirmed dead. The way the media carried on last night this was 9/11 x 1000. How many people died in that boat that was turned around at gunpoint and then sank? Who grieves for them? Clearly not Alexander Downer and John Howard. Werent so 'horrified' then were they?

Don't adhere to the theory that we only care about white people. Dan's original analogy is fundamentally flawed, as an attack like that in London attacks our basic right to freedom, and justifiably causes fear amongst the global population. We all catch trains, so we can all empathise with the horror the blasts would cause.

Conversely, we're not in such a desperate situation like the 'asylum seekers' where we'd jump on a leaky boat to try and find a new home. Thus, the compassion is completely different, as these people are not involved in a seemingly risk-free daily routine like taking a train to work. Pretty simple really. No hidden racist agenda at all. I guess we all donated to the Tsunami appeal because they were all white?

Unit, you know the media works for itself and works for sensationalism and ratings. Terrorism is the 'buzz' topic and will naturally cause a real stir.

People feel more sympathy for and empathy with victims they can associate with. People going to work (London or NY) are much closer to our normal life than refugees (Tampa) or in rural China or Bangladesh (floods) or in Africa (poverty and disease).

Correct.

while there is some validity in your arguments, that doesn't excuse the calls of 'serves them right' and 'that will teach them a lesson'.

certainly a disparity between lack of caring and rejoicing in the fact these people died.

certainly some on this forum and others were making a mockery of those who died, and yet lambast others for even daring to discuss the issues.

I don't think i've seen anyone here rejoicing in the deaths of the brits, and yet they were actively rejoicing in the deaths of others.

I think the least compassionate statements were 'i don't care' about hte brits, and that is hardly insulting, its just a statement about emotional attachment.

Rejoicing in the death of any but the most heinous of people is disgusting.

For the life of me i dont know why a Muslim would want to live in Australia anyway. Perhaps someone needs to tap them on the shoulder at their middle eastern departure lounge and tell them we dont behead people, cut off hands, dowse womens faces with acid etc.

UNIT said:
we want to hear and see whats happening in London. I dont want to see Alexander Downer on my tv virtually telling me 'i told you so, our mandatory detention policy has been vindicated'.

UNIT said:
Will the Muslim world condemn these attacks? We keep hearing about how its only the lunatic fringe that condones terrorism. Now is there chance to prove it. If we see footage of people in the middle east dancing in the street and firing AK47s in the air we will know exactly who stands where IMO.

UNIT said:
People like me??. These monsters have just stuck suicide bombers on public buses in London...Am i meant to come on here and wax lyrically about the virtues of Islam? Wont happen.

UNIT said:
For certain Bush and Blair's Iraqi Adventure played a role in causing the tragic events we saw last night. But as was said on another thread, terrorism was happening before Bush began implementing his agenda's on the world. The fact is the world of Islam hates the West, is at odds with every value the West holds dear and regardless of the spin we hear from some PR spin doctor 'representative' of Islam that the problem is only with radical misguided extremists, Islam is a brutal mysognistic faith that would have us back in the stone age with beheadings, pride killings and Conan The Barbarian style sword wielding shenanigans.

Im sorry if i have a diverse array of opinions that dont fit into a redneck piegeon hole. I dont see things in black and white. Yes we should be accepting refugees, but no we shouldnt be accepting the less savoury aspects of Islam in Australia. No we shouldnt be locking up people behind razor wire, but this is a country with a stable english cultural foundation that doesnt need to be corrupted like the Balkans with a licorice allsorts of ethnic and religous agendas and hatreds.

I form my own opinion im not left or right....do you get understand? My opinion on one issue isnt dictated by my opinions on another.

You and you mate Unit are deadset ********ing idiots. Your stupidity just makes it worse for yourself, stirring the pot.

And by the way - there's 300,000 Aussies currently here in the UK, with 100,000 in London alone.

Do I need to join the dots for you?

But you condemn people for not mourning the death of 'boat people' but you dont want 'boat people' here anyway. That my friend is being a hypocrite.

So does that make the deaths of the boat people any less relevant?

Hats off to Skipper.

Honestly, tell me whats wrong with that? And to you Skipper Kelly, how does that statement equal me being against boat people/refugees??? I just dont want people coming to this country (be they white, purple, green or brindle) that are going to bring social unrest to our streets. All people of all religons that are prepared to live within the spirit of the values this country was built upon, are welcome to come and share the riches are wonderful country posseses. But if your all going to do is exploit us for our standard of living and tolerance you can go to hell.

Dan stop being a txsser. Comparing a bunch of people who willingly got on board an unseaworthy vessel is in no way comparable to a bunch of people travelling to work having their entrails removed by terrorist scum.

There was plenty of sympathy for those on the boat, I trust you read the Age.

I was referring to the MORONs on this site who were rejoicing in their death and saying things like 'that will teach them'...

Im sure you remember the debate at the time.
