Glad the top 4 worst lists are actually accurate.

Can jumble the order on a given day, but those 4 are night and day the worst.

Hawthorn. Aging list and little top talent coming through. DGB helps and Scrimshaw might come good, but Clarkson is really going to have to work his magic if they're going to compete in the next few years.

I don't disagree that it's us but don't think the 'ageing list' assertion is true anymore. At the end of last season we lost Puopolo, Henderson, Frawley, Smith and Stratton (all 30+) and this will be Burgoyne's last year too which will take a big chunk out of both our average age and games played. I think we are finally rejuvenating the list - which is not to say we have heaps of gun kids there already - but we have accepted we need to get younger and are doing so.

Hawthorn Reborn.

There's a very good reason for that....

Other than maybe Goldstein and Stephenson I don't think I would recognise any North Melbourne player on the street. I would have recognised Ben Brown and Majak Daw but of course they are gone now.

Ben Cunnington could walk right up to me and I would not have a clue he was an AFL player unless he told me his name.

Id be like that with most players from most teams.

And certainly some of the younger ones from Hawthorn.

Hawthorn
List is in a diabolical shape and having clarkson will make no difference.
The super coach is not so super without super players

I'm of the opinion that the Hawks are a 4 goal better team with Clarko leading it. He is easily the best coach going around. If he wasn't there, it would be diabolical.

Shit youngsters apparently but 2 kicked 9 between them yesterday. And it was without a host of senior players. I've said this before and I'll say it again, we're not as bad as people think we are. We may not be a finals team atm but we're not going to be hanging around the bottom for draft picks either for years and years to get back there. Just not our way. Brockman looks like a steal at pick 46. You need to draft the right players and develop then properly and they don't necessarily have to be high picks. The list profile is in better shape than it has been in years and will be better again once Silk retires. Based on yesterday is merely a contributor now not a key piece of the puzzle. There for leadership only really. There are guys on the list in that 22 and under bracket that could breakout this year and be best 22. And there decent talents. Not all doom and gloom from my perspective.

Yeah and the Swans are just flush with household names right

No list is that bad that you cant do great things in 2 drafts. Hawks have got Phillips, Downie and Maginness cheaply in 2 trading periods. Day and DGB with earlier picks.

Size, speed, Smarts, Endurance. Things sadly lacking with a small bodied midfield especially with Smith, Hill, Henderson, Scully all gone.

We liked that DGB was drafted with the first pick but did wonder if full back was our glaring hole going forward. It seem the club was right

What is wrong is deliberately gutting your side and killing the culture. that is a ten year process

Downie and Brockman will both be best 22 this year. That's 2 draftees from last year. Add that to Day, DGB and hopefully Finn Mcguiness from the past 2 years and the young stocks are looking OK. As I said the youth isn't that bad. Just not exposed to senior level yet so everyone's think they are nobodies.

Not gonna lie, feeling pretty unenthusiastic about the next 4-5 years right now
4-5 years is a stretch.

With classy mids like LDU, Simpkin, Phillips already on the list it’s a good start.
Padding out peripheral roles is not hard to do, when you’ve got class in the middle.

2021 will be a big year of learning and development for the new coach and refreshed group, but it won’t be 4-5 years before it clicks unless the coach is a failure.
