Who are the top 10 midfielders in the league?

Dustin Martin is not #1 anymore. Aside from the first two rounds, he has not performed anything like a top 10 player should, let alone #1.

I’d say another 10 coaches votes for David Mundy. Lazy 30 and 3.

if your basing it on output and not reputation Mundy is in the ten currently

“In Fremantle’s four wins so far this season, Mundy has averaged 29.5 disposals, 13.5 contested possessions, 10.3 score involvements, 6.3 inside 50s, 6.8 clearances, 452m gained and 133 ranking points.”

Not saying anyone is wrong but how is Dunks better than Oliver? Genuinely curious; has to be defensive workrate right?

I assume that's the same reasoning for most of these names I'm seeing; I'll take Libba and Cripps(when on song) and I'm sure a few others I'm missing as comparable clearance operators to Clarry.

Would also have Trac in the top 10 probably just based on some of those names I seen but again if defensive workrate is the reason, that makes sense. Our two guys do not run very hard defensively

It should not be humanly possible to be that good at 35 but sign-me-****ing-up for more players getting to play the game for longer.

Lebron who?

Mundy must be spending Lebron-esque money on cryotherapy tho surely or something...does he not train during the week maybe?

nope he trains every day

check out his goal in the second quarter and just marvel at it.
35 years old and doing that shit 😊

the best thing is he’s enjoying himself so much that he’s certain to go around again next year.

I’d say so. Dunkley’s defensive work rate could be the best in the comp as a mid, it’s going to leave a massive hole with him out. Other than that, they’re probably on the same level.

Dunkley one I'm very ok with since he is a clearance beast too but how do you weight clearance ability vs defensive workrate? I'm fine with leaving bad defenders out of these kind of lists, I don't think Westbrook or Trae Young are top 30 NBA players because of their defense, but is there a specific way you do this or is it just eye test? Basketball's a lot easier to quantify in your head because a blown rotation will lead to a layup or a wide open 3, lot clearer causality between mistakes and scores.

Would say other than defense Trac has Dunks covered too personally

I wouldn't have thought many would dispute this. I certainly don't think Dunkley is better than Petracca.

Yeah but defense does matter and Trac is pretty bad at it though there might be positive signs regarding it, seemed pretty solid last night.

Superstar athletes primes have been pushed out by sports science (supplements and drugs) and injury management
Messi and Ronaldo mid 30s, Nadal and Djokovic (Fed 40), Brady in his 40s, LeBron

Fyfe was scoffed at for saying he wants to play til 37 at a star level, but I think it will happen especially watching Mundy absolutely cream it (Brownlow and Dockers surging into the top 4 at this rate)

Hugh McCluggage is closing rapidly, will soon be a top 10 midfielder in the competition if not later this year in 2022.

Aside from one of the best individual years in history of 2017, Dusty has proven time after time he paces himself throughout the season , has a few bad games which every player does then when finals hits does his best work.

Easily the best player in the comp then daylight, best pure midfielder no not really because if you watch our games he starts in the guts but plays forward of centre with a player like Graham , Bolton, Lambert , Castagna who start at half forward and run up and basically become a midfielder around the ground. Still classified as a midfielder and clear number 1. Until someone like the Bont or Trac step up and regulary perform in big games/finals he is 1.

How does that compare to their losses though? If he has gone missing in them, then that doesn't bode well for him, does it?

Easy to look good when you are winning.

I'm not sure Fyfe will age as well as Mundy has. Mundy is the footy equivalent of a big Rolls Royce. He just cruises along effortlessly. Very balanced and skilled and picks his moments for contests.

To me he's similar in style to players like Burgoyne, Boomer Harvey and even Fletcher who have been able to keep going for such a long time.

In theory Fyfe could prolong his career much further in a forward role but he'll still be reliant on his explosive violent style of play that is a higher injury risk and creates more wear and tear.
