Who are the top 10 midfielders in the league?

Mate you sound like that stkilda Nutter cooper from fb 🤣 look at your quality. Unsure why Dusty is not best in the comp ? Look at his performances in big games mate. Look at his output year in year out. Combine those. That's why he is the best.
Your posts are still rubbish lol.

Why stop there? Surely Libba and Bailey Smith deserve a Guernsey.

I found the Dyl and friends podcast with Tom Mitchell, Cripps, Neale and Rowell pretty interesting. When asked which player from another team they would want in their team they answered as followed;

Cripps: Nic Nat as he wants a dominant ruck.
Rowell: Bont
Mitchell: Was going to say Bont but as Rowell had already chosen him he went with Dusty.

Perhaps it's not as clear cut as some are making it out to be? After all peers are probably the best judges.
Who did Neale pick?

You are obviously not going to let this go are you? So under the stats, what is a tackle defined as? Do you know?
You're the one that keeps saying to stop the convo but keep on replying haha. I mean I'm not going to just stop a forum conversation because you tell me to. If you want to let it go, as you've said twice I'm not sure why you keep responding furthering the discussion.

Yes I do know that a tackle is defined as. It is the use of physical contact to prevent an opponent in possession of the ball from getting an effective disposal.
Preempting your next question (possibly along with a request to shut the conversation down), an effective disposal is either a handball to a teammate that hits the intended target or a kick of more than 40 metres to a 50/50 contest or better for the team or a kick of less than 40 metres that results in the intended target retaining possession.

I'd suggest to you, if you want to shut the conversation down and can handle not having the last word, just don't reply to this post :)

Right. So what is "in possession of the ball"? Every weekend I watch football and there is debate about whether a player was in possession of the ball, usually when being tackled. What is the objective rule that decides whether a player has possession of the ball?

If the definition is "physical contact" then if you bump someone while they have the ball which stops them disposing of it effectively then it is a tackle right?

So if you touch a bloke with one hand and he kicks the ball 38 metres to an opponent that is a tackle? If you push them in the back, but it is not paid, and they miss the target under 40 metres the push in the back is a tackle?

Who defined the intended target of the disposal? if there are two players from the team there and it lands with one of them, are they the intended target?

What is the definition of a 50/50 contest? What is a "50/50 contest or better"?

Is the length of a kick (if 40 metres is the definition) measured objectively?

What does "retaining possession" mean and how is it defined?

We're talking about statisticians, not mainstream sports media/commentators. They have no idea so I wouldn't listen to them at all if they sound confused about things (or even if they don't).

Yep, there are defined answers to all of your questions. Some of them answer themselves. Some you can track down on the internet pretty easily yourself. Others have been mentioned in discussions with SMEs in podcasts, interviews, etc.

Going back to the original comment though, all of these determinations are applied equally through the processes and systems which makes the outcomes objective.

So there are defined answers to those questions but you cannot provide them? Where are those answers kept?

You seem to know that "all of these determinations are applied equally through the processes and systems which makes the outcomes objective" so I am guessing you have access to this information.

Yep.
I answered that above. I'm not going to personally drag you by the hand around the internet to find answers to things. I already answered some off my own bat. If you're too lazy or incompetent to look, you can assume the answers don't exist if you like.

Regardless, the answers to your latest set of questions have nothing to do with the original premise of the discussion. Keep going on the obfuscation if you like though. Happily reply to you again if you can come up with an argument of your own instead of throwing back questions repeatedly.

can we just all agree that Petracca is a top 2-3 midfielder and Oliver is some where around 5-7?

Petracca has show his 20-25v touches is as dangerous as anyone in the league

And Oliver is clearly the number 1 contested player in the league

And tbf Oliver has done it every week for first 5-6 years and Petracca has shown over the last 18 months he is a ****ing weapon offensively but also he his ranked in the top 10 for pressure acts so he does it both ways not just floating forward and cheating
