Who has never even played football?

I currently play football and am the captain of my club (junior football). But this thread pisses me off because it is an excuse for crap players to bullshit how good they are.

And the funny thing is no one has goffed off apart from your good self junior football man.

GOOD thread. Should separate the men from the boys, so to speak.

You can never question a player's hardness, or even decision making on occasions, if you've never played at any level yourself.

Dont totally agree. If you havent played the game it doesnt stop you from seeing someone shit themselves or take a few short steps. But everyone that steps out onto an AFL ground has some sort of courage-some more than others.
Just for the record, I played for 12 years (6 years juniors) till i got too lazy (and thirsty).

Why have a 'goffed off'? Because I said I was captain? Just telling the truth mate. I'm talking about the blokes who say they are 'guns' or like the post a couple of pages before that said 'I play it very well' or something along those lines.

Go back and multi quote them then. I was certainly quite reserved in my comments about my football achievements and I felt most others were as well.

Make a statement - back it up.

Firstly I didn't necessarily mean this thread - yes I know my exact words were 'this thread', but I meant to say 'threads like these'. Check the My Footy board for some examples. Below are a few I have picked out of this thread.

Just trying to sort out the all australian all man hero posters (such as myself) that have not only an all encompassing understanding of the game, but the skills to match... from the wannabes behind a computer screen

i expect a lot of essendon rich kids with biceps skinnier than their tie & poorform bandwagon scum to reply

Well im a Sydney supporter, and have played the game since I was 8 years old. (Am now 25). I have the pictures to back it up as well faget.

So tell us about your illustrious career you dumb shit, armchair hypocrite

I play and I play very well:thumbsu:

Bigeasy's post so bad as he eventually went on to say he got crunched. Just using the first bit of the post for an example as it is probably worse than what I said.

In one game I kicked 4 in the first half from the centre

Maybe I should assume this post is a joke...

Obviously, because it would stuff up his hair. OH MY GOSH as if you didnt mention that.

I dont play for a club.. because I have been looking for maybe 5 years to find a girl club?
I am not a tom-boy and I will not join the boys because its too rough.
But we play at school all the time and I usually average about 20 disposals (play all positions [sometimes ruck even though im only about 180]), and 2 goals.

So I think I play pretty good for a girl my age.

Edit - we only play 35 mins/ 30 mins of footy.

How paw3ed am I feeling now?

Played until under 16's I was a better cricketer and didn't want to do the preseason in under 18's. Best moments would have to be making fun of Jeff White, the kid had the biggest ears you have ever seen in proportion to his skinny head.

Played a fair bit, until I did a knee back in the 1970's, the doctors really sucked badly at trying to fix them back then. I was a ruckman, forward, but no great shakes.

Played against Darryl Hewitt (Leyton's uncle) a few times, he eventually went on to play for Richmond, I later on umpired him while he was playing cricket for Karoonda.

I played against the Fitzroy Stars in under 13's and 15's for Lalor Stars back in the ealry 80's.....showing my age:eek:

I remember them vividly because they only had 2 white players in their team and boy were they tough. Not unfair or dirty just tough at the ball.

In one game I kicked 4 in the first half from the centre and at the start of the third quarter I had a solid aborigine boy stand next to me and say something on the lines "First chance I get, gonna get ya". Well it didn't take long as the ball went to the forward pocket and the ball bounced up and as I grabbed it and whirl around to snap my fifth, my man came through with a sensational shirt front, i still managed to snap my fifth but it was my rib and not a goal.:( No kidding this kid came over and helped me up and said" told ya".
Played Cricket against Lalor Stars in the 80's.
Played under 15's & 17's footy for Coburg amatuers in very early 80's against Lalor, Broadmeadows, St Dominics etc.
Christ there were more fights in juniors than any senior matches I ever played in & I think my head is still ringing 30 years later from all the whacks & sniping we all got from our friends from Broady & Lalor.

One thing that playing the game does for you is give you a greater appreciation of certain skills and aspects of the game.

Very true. I believe the same can be said of most sports.

Played for about 15 years. Was born and lived in a suburb boasting a very successful team (Vermont), so was fortunate enough to play in a few flags.

Played against Wirra in juniors, then played in some rep teams with Shannon Grant and the Scott brothers. Grant was like a freakshow in the skills department.

Still playing now. Been playing for about 10 years, lucky enough to play in a junior flag as a ruckman, before I got fat(ter) and now play as a full-forward/CHF, changing into the middle. Played juniors with and against a couple of league players, none of any note. Now play seconds (I'm a terrible footballer-couldn't get a kick off a hotwire) at the same club where big Fish Turner, former Richmond fullback coaches the ones.

Grant was like a freakshow in the skills department.

I've heard plenty of stories about Shagger kicking 15 and 20 goals a match whilst playing in the centre. If he had been born 10 years earlier, he would have gone down in history as an all time great. One of the last of the true footballers.

The part of the game that required the most courage was sitting under the ball to take a mark when you hear a stampede of footy players boots behind you. Especially when you were under 9s playing against under 11s. Big size difference.

Scrapping for the ball on the ground required little courage to be honest. Just hard work.

Maybe in under 11's mate, but contests on the ground have left more than a few with concussion. I've been kicked fair square in the head from jumping on the ball as someone has tried to kick it off the ground (they did their knee), knees dropped in on my head, head clashes, torn rib cartilage from a couple of very hard body hits.

I won't deny sitting under the ball requires courage, as does running with the flight while a couple of 100+kg guys are charging towards it (did my ankle that way), but don't reduce all ground contests to Under 11's scrapping for the ground ball.

Used to play in my junior days till i was about 21.

Was allright too, until i went overseas for 4 years, so i took up soccer just to keep fit. Been back for nearly 5 years now and can't be stuffed taking it up again. Prefer to have a bit of fun with mates occasionally.

Im not sure that playing the game increases your knowledge, but it definitely makes you appreciate what effort the players put in thats for sure.

I have played close to 150 league games (still playing ) in an 'A' grade competiton in perth. Won 2 league flags , and represented the competion against other standards. So its pretty much official i have more football knowledge than any of you broken down fatties on this site.
