Was chatting to a guy who lives in Perth but is a Saints supporter whilst playing Big Footy poker last night. Says he knows Ben personally - and there is NO WAY he will play AFL for the Eagles again, that it is a mutual thing between Ben and the WCE - and "that is gospel".

Hooray..

Close thread and this crazy talk!

Ben cousins wont play afl for west coast again.

Think off the media in Melbourne:cool:

"eagles back to there old ways"

If a Melbourne or Sydney club pick him up however

"new cousins drug free and ready to play"

What does Cousins have agoinst WCE?

1. Nisbitt jumpim the gun and sacking him?
2. Allowing hime to play on late in 06 when his drug problem was becoming more than recreational?

Anyone who signs this petition is as stupid as Simone Warne.

How many times do you have to be punched in the gut to wake up?

IT WAS A WILD AFFAIR WHILE IT LASTED BEN BUT YOU JUST COULDN'T CONTROL YOURSELF.

Time for the NEW BREED.

LOL the new breed.

This years ad campaign was one of the more pathetic ones imo.

The new breed are a bunch of hacks, i want success and i want excitement.

If the AFL doctors clear him, which they must, then you would think some responsibility would lie with those doctors should he relapse. I doubt a further stuff up on his behalf would result in sanctions being imposed on his next AFL club (including WCE). He has a medical condition.

Cousins is paying a penalty, has paid a penalty and will continue to for his drug use.

You're being a bit harsh on him angel.
So in essence you are saying it would be the doctor's fault if a known drug addict relapsed.

You obviously know how these things work I see.

Yep.

To think that the AFL would slap a penalty on any club, when they know that this is an individual issue (as opposed to one which would require sanctioning of the club as well), seems completely unreasonable and simplistic.
Why would it be unreasonable when we are completely aware of his past issues? In fact i'd call that completely reasonable.

It would be the club's fault for picking him up, therefore the club will pay the penalty. No player is bigger than the team.

idiot. What will cousins do for us? Take us from 15th to 13th? shit all impact and then the huge negative impact of having him around the impressionable youth and then the afl giving us the old kobe bryant. Seriously, hes gone, get a clue and move on.

ahh so your saying it would be the clubs fault instead

ben is a massive part of eagles history and you cant just throw it away as a matter of convenience so you can start building young players. Eagles created ben the player and like it or not, ben the rock star. Our club created him, the good facets and the bad.

If he wants back in and can prove he's ready then we owe it to him to help get him back to where he was 3 years ago

beside the personal issues he would have to be one of the most professional player in eagles history, always first to training, last to leave, would work his guts out on game day and every training session, his work ethic was phenomenal. If you cant see the positive influences he'd have on the team then you must have started following the eagles in sept 2006

yeah on the days he did turn up to training, or the ones where he wasnt still feeling the effects of last night if you know what i'm saying. Work ethic only gets you so far. Pretty much single handedly made us the laughing stock of the AFL and almost took draft picks and premiership points away from us. I got my membership in 01, the judge era, so don't give me that shit. I was one of cousins biggest fans before he turkey slapped us. Someone start a petition to get a restraining order for him to be nowhere near the club.

For those who claim the eagles never should have sacked him, answer this.
Would you have kept cuz even if it meant we lost most of, if not all of our draft picks last year, essentially meaning judd went for nothing, lose premiership points, guarenteeing this years spoon, and then in all probability having him be deregistered by the AFL anyway?
Some people need to get a clue.

Because the AFL cleared him to play, completely aware of his past issues.

If the AFL feel that he is likely to relapse, then they shouldn't allow him to play. If he is judged fit, then relapses, how could they punish the club when they had as much foresight as the AFL?

To people who are signing this. Do you love the club more than Ben Cousins? Because that to me is the way you should be thinking about this.

WHat do you think the answer is?

Clearly the club.

I haven't and won't sign it but I would love nothing more than ot have Ben back.

As I was to young to remember our 92 and 94 flags and just caught the end of carers such as Mainy Perter Matera Bluey Jacko and Ashley Mac, I was privileged to see the whole career of Ben.

He was West Coast in our poor seasons. Whenever I hear news he might go to another club it isn't the best feeling.

At the moment we lack heart and he will bring that heart back.

If he can someway 100% honestly and sincerely (not like his footy show speech) guarantee he is clean then I think we owe it to him to believe him.

Saying all this,, sadly there's no way I can see him coming back to play for us. Woosh won't let it.

Great memories from him but those days are over.

But there is no way any of you can say that if he was accepted back by the club that you wouldn't accept it.

In hindsight, YES. We could have taken the punishment and moved on. We may have fallen to the bottom of the ladder and.....oh hang on a sec:rolleyes:

We now have a threat for an indefinite period that ties our hands. We are out of the market for Didak, Fevola, Franklin etc if they were available because we cannot afford to take them 'in case they stuff up'. I also love the re-writing of history you Squeaky Wheels do. He missed 3 (maybe 4)training/recovery sessions in 10 years, yet all of a sudden he was continuously missing training.

The previous straw poll on here in favour of Cousins was basically 90 to 25. I would say that would be pretty accurate. It's just that naysayers always make the most noise so it would look like they are in the majority. (Talk back radio loonies for example).

I agree that if the AFL clear him to come back, their hands will be somewhat tied. By the end of this year, we may have cleared every transgressor (that is brought up) with Kerr (doubtfully traded) and Fletcher maybe retired, but we will still have the noose over our head. Gardiner currently is a free man to do as he pleases. He couldn't go a week without being an idiot for us, now he is the proverbial Saint??

It would be the same for Cousins. "Oh, Look how XXXXX has turned him round. He finished of his career without incident, won another premiership etc. Show's what a great club this is and how moving to Victoria, away from the WILD WEST was the best thing for him". What if he doesn't stuff up for us? What if we help redeam him? We get more positives out of that. And people only look at his playing ability around the club. His training ethic changes players. Judd hasn't just lifted Carlton with his football ability. He has taken Cousins training ideals to them. If Cousins doesn't come back as a player, I would still want him back as the Fitness Coach!!!

Signed
The Silent Majority.:D

Woops, better get that Oil, I can hear the cogs starting to move....

His impact around the club wouldn't be negative. The eagles are a bunch of girls, i hope cousins kills it if he plays against us.

I've moved on from his time at the eagles, i eagerly await his next move if any because he's just that damn special.

What? Of course i'm not, that makes even less sense.
I'm saying it is the addict's fault if they relapse. You can lead a horse to water but cannot make it drink.

Threw him away out of convenience for an extra spot on the team for a young player? You are aware of the chain of events that led to him being sacked aren't you...?

We owe Ben Cousins nothing.

There is no way they could keep him out of the game 'just in case he relapsed'. They'd have their pants sued off mate.
They can only judge him based on his condition at the time of assessment.

You are being naive if you think that we would absolve all responsibility of any future Cuz **** up, just because the AFL cleared his health before he played.

The point is that we all know very well that physically he is/was one of the fittest, and he'd likely pass any AFL assessment... but he has admitted publically that the fitness part isn't the issue, it is that he is mentally very weak to resisting the temptations that come part and parcel with being an AFL footballer. That says to me that he is not confident that we will not reoffend.

This thread aint gonna make much difference, except keep everyone a amused with insignificant, rehashed bickering.

Sounding awfully repeated in here a year later.
That's what BigFooty's for ;)

I won't be signing it! Some fool at work sent it around, but I can't see why we would bring him back when you look at his age and where we are on the table. He won't be bringing us back to number 1, so we may as well let someone else pick him up and we'll just suck for a little while longer.

yeah that guy at work must be a fool!!
