Who Should Be In The Hall Of Fame, and Who Should Be A Legend?

I am proud to be a South Australian. Not an insult as far as I am concerned.

As for the rest of your post, it has lost all credibility due to you talking about Peter Motley. It would be quite clear to every other person on here that I was referring to his father Geof. Look up his record.

See yourself out.

Problem is you never gave the first name...so go figure who has heard of Geof Motley. Another SA hack going way back when.
To be honest you had no credibility at all after your dismissing Bruce Doull. I repeat SA was a Tier 2 comp in that era ie VFL era.
You may not accept that but that is your problem as a proud Croweater...now go and eat some crow old fella
You are comparing a man who played 350 games of football in the VFL...repeat VFL not the little league over in SA

I never dismissed Bruce Doull, I just refused to believe that he was so much better than every name I mentioned. I never stated that he unworthy of being a legend, I just believed that there are others from outside Victoria that should be considered ahead of him.

Most astute football followers would have been aware of Geof Motley’s record, that he was already in the hall of fame and has a record that is hard to argue with.

Due to his terrible accident that shortened his career, Peter was never going to be in contention. Therefore, there was frankly no need to make the clarification as it would, or at least should, be obvious to most.

You just assumed it was Peter because of his time at Carlton. After all, if it didn’t happen in Victoria, it isn’t worth anything. People like you forget that it is the Australian, not Victorian Hall of Fame.

But VICTORIA is the home of AFL. And where the best comp in the land was played up to the start of the AFL. Never denied there were not gun footballers in all states. And as a South Australian you are justly proud of your champions because that is where you watched your footy. Being born in Victoria I was lucky enough to be born in Victoria where the best comp was and of course footballers from all over the land plied their trade.

Next year Dustin Fletcher will become eligible. Walk up start. Only possible delay would be due to the saga. Will be interesting to see what happens.
Next year is a massive year for the Hall of Fame
Dustin Fletcher, Chris Judd and Adam Goodes are walk-up starts
Kane Cornes, Paul Chapman and Brian Lake are also worthy nominees

2022 also has a good batch
Brent Harvey and Matthew Pavlich are walk up starts
Jimmy Bartel and Dane Swan are a good chance
Adam Cooney, Nick Dal Santo and Corey Enright would all be worthy nominees

Add Darren Glass next year.
Cooney and Dal not even close. As a minimum you need to be a champion to be in the discussion.

John Abley from Port A latest addiction to HOF. It is their 150th year. I see the pattern. Reckon Scott Hodges could be next.

Like ****. We want true hall of famers in there to keep it a thing of prestige. If Scott Hodges gets in we get hundreds and hundreds of better footballers needing to be in too.

Watched the last segment of this weeks Hall of Fame. I fear they are inducting too many each year, especially of more recent decade. Should be less inductees and more catching up on ones missed from past decades. I really enjoyed hearing the two of Dennis Commetti as media category hall of famer and John Abley from 1950's football. Two seem well deserved and not rushed in. Enjoyed learning about Abley from his son in law. Seems like a great full back from that era and gave an insight to how special legend John Coleman was too from playing on him in state games. Love learning about true hall of famers from before my time.

Like Mark Bickley, Peter Bell and Michael O’Loughlin
Poster you responding too said Cooney and Dal Santo are in hall of fame.
FMD, if that is true they are just making it less prestige for recent decades to get in.
O'Loughlin out of those names is only one I would even consider but even then, he probably falls short in my eyes but worthy of asking the question.
Bickley, Bell, Dal Santo and Cooney were good footballers but not hall of famers in my eyes. Just leads to less prestige if letting every Tom, Dick and Harry that retired not long after careers finished.

Yep nope to both Cooney and Sal Santo.

Glass gets in, but not sure under his first year of eligibility

Not sure if I've already contributed to this thread, and mentioned this bloke, ANDhe's in the hof already.
Jack Oatey.
I think he should be in the legends category.
A man that doesn't get mentioned enough when talk of the great coaches gets bandied about.

That was simply the interstate bias - there seems to be a SA/WA player inducted every year even if no one is deserving.

There are non-Victorians that have been deserving from previous eras that could have been inducted in previous years, they just haven’t inducted them. They are inducting players from outside Victoria that played in the AFL that are not worthy. That is my point.

Clearly a Hall of Famer. If Lenny isnt good enough for the Hall of Fame we best start dumping a whole heap of players out.

And I can't stand St Kilda so no bias here.

Lenny Hayes is definitely good enough to be in the hall of fame. I feel he was probably inducted a year or 2 too early. Just my opinion.
