Who Should Be In The Hall Of Fame, and Who Should Be A Legend?

Lots of players get put in later.
Rick Davies played for Hawks when I was a kid. No 150 goal season there, I can tell you. Hudson did for Hawks though. Could have broken Pratt record but apparently choked on the day to overtake the milestone.
It isn't "apparently" anything, it's one of the most famous TV clips in footy history,

He kicks into the man on the mark from about 15m out to break the record.

Hudson was heavily concussed at the time and had double vision for most of the game.

Discussion on SEN was how many Hall of famers did strong teams produce

Geelong 00s and Hawks 10s still to play out , but the average seems to be five.

Hardwick the standout for me. I'm assuming 8 Cats from 07-11 will get in.

73' Grand final had 5 from each side and both coaches.

Lenny Hayes and Jonathan Brown out of the way so far
Leaves Dean Cox, Nick Maxwell and Luke Ball from the 2015 retirements.

Who else will we get this year?

Bit of talk over here today about Greg Phillips
Seem to be tracking ok here

Cannot argue with any of the inductions so far, Phillips would not have been first on my list, but is one crossed off of the list of those that were overlooked in the initial induction

There are many more that should be in before Maxwell and Ball, but the modern era seems to take precedent.

McKenna and Bedford out they did not get in for their deeds at Carlton. Add Wallace to Hawthorn. Mew and Buckenara could be in for Hawthorn but can’t see any other from WC, ESS or Bris. For Geelong, Bartel, Selwood and Enright the only definites. For Hawks, Mitchell, Hodge, Burgoyne and Buddy the only locks, but Rough and Rioli good stories and likely.

Darren Glass, who finished up mid 2014 (before Cox) would be streets (AND STREETS) ahead of Ball and Maxwell.

Might not get it this year but will get in there eventually.

Glass is a lock for next year. Goodes and Judd the only definites from the 2015 retirees. Lake next best. There has to be a South Australian each year apparently. Hopefully Lake satisfies that.

Brian Lake would be a stretch - he had some very ordinary years at the Dogs and while he gets extra credit for playing for Hawthorn I don’t think he’s worthy.

SA tends to focus on SANFL players anyway...I think it’s more to do with feeling they were stiffed back in 1996...

Probably someone who played for Norwood (or someone else) in the mid 60s that nobody outside of Adelaide has heard of....but dammit they’ll get their quota!

Maybe I'm alone but I don't like seeing Lockett added as a legend in 2015 and John Kennedy Sr in 2020. There's a 38 year age difference and Kennedy's last coaching stint finished in 1989. Lockett is an obvious legend of the game but what's the rush?

Ball, Maxwell, Lake... I think people are reaching. Daniel Kerr, John Worsfold, Ash McIntosh were better than those 3. If some or all of those guys never make it in it's not a travesty.

Worsfold will probably get in when he finishes up coaching. Two time premiership captain and premiership coach. Other than that probably no one else from the 90s sides. McIntosh probably the best of the rest, but I don't think that makes him HOF quality. I know it said 90s, but you can add Mitchell to our list too.:p

Roughead would get a no from me, but then Neitz, Brown and Barry Hall recently got in. Can't really argue Roughead isn't on the same level as those guys. If Roughead gets in what about Kennedy and Riewoldt? It's a slippery slope.

Apart from the 2 extra premierships, Josh Kennedy and Jack Riewoldt are both better than Roughead.

There needs to be a rule eliminating candidates that played their careers in the minor leagues (anything besides VFL/AFL).

In other words, racking up accolades in a ‘big fish small pond’ scenario because u were too afraid to play in the big boy’s league
Maybe they just liked where they grew up or loved their kids and didn’t want to up root the family or liked their job outside of football.
Some of these “afraid” people you speak of went to war to protect this country but yes not quite the brave soul like yourself!

On the basis of his coaching, yes - but he was a Good Ordinary Footballer as a player.

Also Corey Enright from Geelong, possibly Harry Taylor too. We had an incredible list for a few years - typical Geelong to win three flags in five years and STILL find a way to underachieve.

Others that should also be considered:
......
Frank Golding
Dick Head
Peter Darley
......

I'm amazed this has slipped through to the keeper. I love learning about the history of the game and would be pushing hard for Mr Head to make the grade.

PS - I've just read up on him and his first name was Henry. Why didn't he stick with his given name?

Have to agree here that there are too many legends. And I liketo base it on Playing as up posed to including media. Coaching adds a bit to playing.
I would take out Darryl Baldock Jack Dyer Royce Hart and Kevin Murray from legend status. Tuck I think is a legend. John Kennedy is NOT a legend of the game..at Hawthorn maybe but not the AFL. Sheedy is a Legend but NOT as a player. So as some others have said have a different category. I guess we all have biases so I am happy for others to have different opinions.

Ah.

Impressive CV, but the knock on him would be playing 8 seasons in the SANFL after the Crows joined the AFL. SANFL, WAFL, VFA/VFL accolades in the 90s don't hold the same prestige as they did in previous decades.

Stephen Michael played 243 WAFL games and won 5 B&Fs. He is a legend of WA footy. Travis Edmonds played 262 and also won 5 B&Fs. Great Swan Districts man but no one is ever going to call for his inclusion in the AF HOF. Eras are important.
Macca played arguably his best football before the Crows joined. Was the highest vote getter in the 1987 Magarey but was ineligible. Had also won 2 premierships before the AFL era. His inclusion is a no brainer. There is no knock on his career.

Time has not been kind to his name
"Dick" was not a common term for that part of anatomy back in his day, funnily it was a common name
