I never said we did not but my question stands.
How many years and coaches do you have before you realise it is most likely much more than just the coach ?
Truck could not sell it . That is on him. Problem we have is 2014 Bomber says we need to improve our team defence after losing an elimination final.
2017 Worsfold says we need to improve our team defence after losing an elimination final.
2021 Rutten says we need to improve our team defence after losing an elimination final.

I hope the next bloke works out. I really do.
Problem is I spent 12 years working at a couple of other AFL clubs . Watching TAC cup and working in their recruiting and the whole time I watch those sides play and say , well we never play like that or draft that type of player .

So forgive me if I think it is just as much the culture, recruiting and the players we have and not just the coach.
I also have lost count of the number of times in the last 10-15 years I have wondered if this when we finally turn the corner a breakout perforance. But no history keeps repeating itself and we don't learn our lessons.

With trade week a little over a week after the GF, I can see why they are aiming to have a coach by then.

We may not have much going on but the new coach needs at least a little time with their feet under their desk before stepping into the hot mess of the exchange period.

I'd be staggered if Zach isn't currently exploring his ability to be traded before he asks for one. He was unsure about signing last year, it's obvious we sold him a lemon of stability under Rutten... one year later it's all gone.

He's clearly a driven bloke and wants success, surely he knows by now he's not going to get it here.
Did we sell him a literal lemon, though?

Could there be more than one appointment made here? Hird's people skills and knowledge of Essendon used to supplement new senior coach in a different (supporting) role?
Can we not use supplement and Hird in the same sentence :p:p

Holy actual *, the member survey email I just received actually has a photo of hird (and perkins) in it from his playing days.....?!
Say Word Reaction GIF by Justin

Yes agreed. Please supplement the word supplement with a word other than supplement when you talk about Hird.

I think he could supplement Wellman’s footy director role very supplemently

where would Caracalla be in the mix?
as a player he had a lot of success as well as being an assistant coach with Richmond and Hawthorn.

he is an ex Essendon player something the cult leaders at Essendon seem to value

No, just the one wage. EFC pays him 500K, we give him some new polo shirts & hoodies, plus free off street parking.

Off street parking in Richmond? Now I know you’re taking the piss

So even as an assistant he could not teach us anything but the premiership club wants him.
Yeah the bloke who just a few weeks ago coached us to wins against two prelim finalists and a near win against third.
