After all the shit this week do we really need to be reading about how good the port coach is from port flogs?

I just watched the press conference and I don't think we're getting a coach that has never been a senior coach.

Barham was pretty adamant that Ben was let go because we need an experienced perspective.

I would be going hard at Ken Hinkley. Good person, articulate, comes from successful cultures...he's the one

Scott I think would be a strong candidate. He pretty consistently overachieved at North and that, to me, is a sign of a pretty good coach.

All I hope is that we go through a proper process and don't do anything stupid like bring back Hird or have the role filled by next week.
Why take Scott when Hinkley would jump at it?

* off we know you don’t want hinkley at port adelaide.
That’s true, but neither would we want Scott, Chocco, Lyon or certainly Hird. Of the lot we’d keep Hinkley.

He’s a good fit for you guys, especially if they had a highly rated assistant under him.

He’s not a dud coach, he’s just taken Port as far as he can.

If you’re going for experience he’s the best available.

Let's get real: they're going to appoint Hird.

They're already softening it up by saying we need an experienced coach, except that no experienced senior coach would even want to come to this club. They'll say they've gone through a process and James was the best candidate, but we all know that's bullshit. We'll have Sheedy on the radio saying it's great to have Hird back and he's a champion of the club and We Are Essendon.

If he is up for it, I would love to get Robbie Gray as ,even a PT, forward coach. Geelong hit the jackpot with Betts, would think Gray could offer a lot in a similar way. Of course he might just stick to Port if he even wants to coach but someone like Gray would be a good get.

Pretty much. A fully fit Stringer will win us 2 extra games against average opposition and we'll be convinced we're one more pre-season away from a Prelim
When has Stringer ever been fully fit? He had a good period last year but he never gives us a full year. Too many people talk about an injury free year for the team. It doesn’t happen.

I agree with you completely. Hinkley would be our best option.

Jock McHale’s corpse please.

According to the PC we apparently want someone experienced. Here’s a couple of lists with various bad suggestions:

Experienced:
  1. Ross Lyon
  2. James Hird
  3. Don Pyke
  4. Justin Leppitsch
  5. Leon Cameron
  6. Mark Williams
  7. Ken Hinkley
  8. Brendan Bolton
  9. Matthew Knights
  10. David Teague
Inexperienced
  1. Mark McVeigh
  2. Dean Solomon
  3. Blake Caracella
  4. Daniel Giansiracusa
  5. Adam Kingsley
  6. Adem Yze
  7. Scott Burns
  8. Robert Harvey
  9. Jaymie Graham
  10. Ash Hansen

Let me cross out those who I'm not interested in:

Experienced:
  1. Ross Lyon
  2. James Hird (Troll?)
  3. Don Pyke (BURN IT OHH MY EYES)
  4. Justin Leppitsch
  5. Leon Cameron
  6. Mark Williams
  7. Ken Hinkley
  8. Brendan Bolton
  9. Matthew Knights (Troll?)
  10. David Teague
Inexperienced
  1. Mark McVeigh
  2. Dean Solomon
  3. Blake Caracella
  4. Daniel Giansiracusa
  5. Adam Kingsley
  6. Adem Yze
  7. Scott Burns
  8. Robert Harvey
  9. Jaymie Graham
  10. Ash Hansen

The complete lack of inspiring options for an experienced coach on the market is further evidence of what a short-sighted impatient and rash decision it was to sack Truck. Everyone mentioned is either well past it or has great experience failing to achieve real success.

I'm happy with Lyon to come on board with a three year contract where we go through the process of auditioning younger coaches as his assistant and Lyon does a 4th year as senior assistant to new senior coach.

The idea of Pyke, Leppitsch, Teague, Cameron or Bolton coaching Essendon is even less appealing than Knights or Hird coming back a decade after sacking and no senior coaching elsewhere. Hinkley ... lol
