When you're explaining you're losing as the old saying goes. A lot of ifs buts and maybes there, but three flags in sixty six years is a fact and a reality.

Some North Melbourne fans have even seen and experienced more flag wins than most Pies fans as well.

Country zoning was brought in after the 1967 season.

Carlton had a 20 year premiership drought before country zoning was brought in, and are currently in a 30 year drought after it.

Pretty easy to do well when the league gives you access to more quality players.

But yes, keep fondly looking back on the VFL country zone era like the other boring Baggers do.

All clubs had the opportunity to be minor premier after H&A and thus get the reward afforded to them.

Collingwood were the team who finished minor premier and got the reward.

Slightly different to a botched zoning concept, where the initial theory was all clubs would rotate to be fair, but surprise surprise clubs that got the great zones didn't want to give em up and former Carlton president Sir Kenneth happily let Carlton keep a plum zone.

Later the VFL acknowledged that country zoning as a clear ‘fail' as it didn't give all clubs a fair share of available player market.

Carlton won flags almost 60 years ago when the VFL gave them an advantage, and have been uncompetitive when it became the AFL and their advantage was removed.

Pastries have won 2 in all that time. You might have to go and sit at the 0-1-2 Grand Final wins in the television era table. There Pastries, Melbourne, Dogs, Saints can all pass your judgements on each other with a bit more confidence. Leave the big boys Hawks, Tigers, Blues to argue over the finer detail of country zones etc.
