Who will be first to debut next year ?

For those who have an itchy for high octane sport, I found NHL really keeps me occupied in the off-season.

All the same highs and lows. 82 games a season. Big hits and stupendously fast. Plus they are allowed to have fisticuffs Personally, I am a massive Detroit Red Wings fan. Get on board.

Saw the NY Giants live about 5 weeks ago at Metlife!

Had to go Cavka. Biggest issue holding back the youngsters is building a tank (a la Sheed in 2014). Cavka already has an AFL tank - he just keeps on running like a sailors dick. Not just elite endurance but decent speed.

With Selwood likely to be out at the start of the season (well done medicos), the tagger role is up for grabs against Carlton and Cavka is a chance. I can see him running with Murphy all day. Played the role pretty well at Cannons in 2014. It will be at Paterson so lots of space!

Good post and you may well be correct on this one.
Based on Scotter being a late start to the season proper I think Cavka will be up against Hutchings and McGinnity to do the run with roles.
I think we all reckon that Badger was lucky to stay on the list and Hutchings is a serviceable backup but for me by no means the long term answer.

So I would like to see Cavka get a chunk of time in the preseason comp to see what he delivers.

Based on nothing more than a gut feeling , I think we may have snagged a good player here.

Has the size already to hold his own, also I think they'll try to intrude him to the big league early to knock any ego out of him and to teach him that being a talented but spasmodic kid won't cut it at AFL level.

Tom Lamb, he'll either be really good or a bust. Hoping for the former, he certainly has Fyfe-like capability, hopefully with a better kick though.

This was a difficult choice but i went with Cavka, but i wouldn't be surprised if Duggan or Waterman made a debut first. But thanks to the stupid sub rule they will only play 1 quarter of footy. Just like Sheed who played 10 games last season but about 5 were as the sub. If the AFL don't get rid of that stupid rule young players are going to take longer to develop and adapt to AFL level.

Tom is a bit of a perfectionist and expects the best out of himself AND his team mates . He is very critical of his performances if they fall short. In some ways he is like Nathan Buckley and consequently it can come across as a bit of a FIGJAM personality .

I don't see that as a problem .

I actually don't mind coaching kids like that. It just means you need to spend a bit more time thinking about how you deliver the message . That said they are easy kids to coach as the outcomes are generally high quality.

Tom is an individual no question about that be he strives for excellence which is something players like Masten and Weelingham should be doing , but sadly don't.

If you are telling me that Lamb is in the other end of the scale to Clown Prince Wellingham, then I am even more interested in him. I have criticised Wellingham of looking like a clown with his boots but then unfortunately playing like one. Lamb's hair could go that route but happy to hear he is not that mindset. I guess time (and hopefully not to long in opportunity) will tell on this one.

I don't know but as I wrote if he had ANY EGO, and let's face it, it would be hard not to with his talents, size and looks! I think Simmo would play him first because he won't get hurt but will realise what AFL's like.

I agree with all this.

Goddard is a fine example of a player like that. Wears his heart on his sleeve, gets a bit emotional and always fires up during games and in big moments.

Best thing about Lamb, is that he brings something completely different to our list.

No probs, your right though I don't know he has an ego. But something his old coach said about it being better for him to be traded to an interstate club makes me think.

He's been a big talented kid since he started playing footy, it would be impossible not to have confidence. I'm more excited about him than any of the other draft pics.

Callum Chambers could run a 16 beep. Having a huge engine does not necessarily make you a good footballer. He could be first but he'll have to prove himself like all the other draftees.

While not all that slight for his age, Cavca is a boy.

Expecting him to follow or tag the games best on the basis of endurance alone is absurd. He'll probably get smashed.

Perhaps he will be the first to play, but not inside and not in such a critical role.
