Raymond is definite

Possibilities:
Brooks
McQualter
Rix
Sweeny

Retirees:
Thompson
Gehrig
M. Clarke

Unknowns
Voss (retire)
Watts -tradeable
Ferguson
Gwilt -tradeable

Although their is no chance of all these going, i just went though the list and these names havn't exacty showed to much promise in the seniors. With at least 3 retireing, we really couldn't leave more than 7 or 8 holes to fill. Although I hear Brooks and Watts have been playing well fo the Scorpians thay havn't looked like being a part of the senior team. It will just come down to who Ross Lyon thinks has the most pprimmise and potential.

Given Clarke is Gone, Brooks is probably going and Gardiner is injured I think will Keep Rix for another year

2 retired plus Clarke; so thats probably 3 more if its Raymond and Brooks we may only lose 1 more

Brooks must go. McQualter is not up to. I hate to say it, but I don't think Gwilt will be there either.

My preference

Retired: Gehrig, Thompson, M.Clarke, Voss
Delist: Raymond, Ferguson, Rix

Elevate: Geary
Cut from rookie list: Jones, Wall

My prediction

Retired: Gehrig, Thompson, M.Clarke
Delist: Raymond, Sweeney

Elevate: Jones, Geary
Cut from rookie list: Wall

Ferguson and Rix are def staying... We can only get rid of 8 max and with 3 retirees plus a few more, it may be hard...
My prediction:

Out the door: Gehrig, Thompson, Voss, M.Clarke, Raymond, Sweeney and possibly Brooks

Lets face the facts, if Brooks cant get a game, when we dont have a dominant ruckman, he is CLEARLY not up to it... Plus, when hes had a go, there been no signs of anything promising.

As few players as possible...

I'm really hoping we're not FORCED to delist out-of-contract players, who may want to leave with all the off-field dramas. I think it's unlikely, but it's just enough to make me nervous.

He is a decent footballer but some say he has a disipline/modivation problem.

He is an interesting kid, but there is no way i think he will get delisted, with a good pre season he will be good next year..This is only his 2nd year on the list, i think he is born in the 2nd half of the year to, only 19 atm ,give him a bit more time...Also raymond has to go!

How's Gairdner going for your mob? did he end up going to straight and narrow and regain his AA form of the past or did he lounge about at the cafe's sipping latte's and generally look like a gruff prick wherever he went? They guys got talent, it was just a matter if he could apply it that was the problem.

Has been injured for most of the year. I think he managed to get two games for casey in. They operated twice on his foot. and the second time they got it right and should be good to go in 08.

Ferg & Gwilt will stay, McQualter gone, Raymond gone, Voss gone, 3 retirees. Not sure if they'll be any more. Brooks is a forward not a ruckmen so he may well go too although the retirement of Gehrig may help him a little. How good/bad is Watts? Will he be able to step up next year and hold his own in the goal square? Unfortunately I don't get to see any of the younger guys play, Geary & Eddy seem to get a few mentions for the scorpians tho, are they any good?

I thought M.Clarke would go again

would be a bit of a waste for one year

and wasnt McQualter a relatively high pick?, if so i'd persist

With Gardiner up and firing + Clarke you will have a solid ruckline (If Clarke goes around again)

One thing i gotta say is i reckon ferguson should be one of the first to go, plus id also give sweeney another year he has potential

Apart from the retirees, Raymond, Brooks, HacQualter, Watts(he wants a trade) will go. Sweeney has talent but is 50-50. Geary and Jones on the senior list, Attard back to rookie, Van Rheenan may be the smoky to go to the senior list, Eddy will stay rookie as will Wall.
Big question is will we keep our first 2 picks or give them up and go hard for Fevola?

Is there talk of Fevola? I would not think we would take him as he would be a destabalising influence. He may also want too much which would jepardise some of the players accepting less to stay together.

Is it true Watts wants a trade? Surely his time is now?

I think we are more likely to go after Jolly but think we need a KP back more.

As I believe the rules, you cannot delist a contracted player unless you pay out their contract, which will count against the salary cap. I don't believe this will happen this year. So the uncontracted players are

Xavier Clarke - re-sign
Andrew Thompson - retired
Fergus Watts - re-sign
Max Hudghton - re-sign
Fraser Gehrig - retired
Steven Baker - re-sign
Leigh Montagan - re-sign
Brett Voss - ???
Matthew Ferguson - ???
Justin Koschitke - re-sign
Barry Brooks - ???
Matthew Clarke - retired
Michael Rix - re-sign
Matt Maguire - re-sign
Philip Raymond - ???
Robert Harvey - re-sign
Justin Sweeney - ???
Clinton Jones - re-sign
Luke Van Rheenan - re-sign
Robert Eddy - ???
James Wall - re-sign
Jarryn Geary - re-sign
Jayden Attard - re-sign

So, with Blake, Gwilt & McQualter all under contract, the nominations (in my mind) for delisting are Voss, Ferguson, Brooks, Raymond, Sweeney, and the rookie Eddy. Thompson, Gehrig & Doc Clarke already retired.

Let's assume Voss hangs 'em up. Let's also assume that RL elevates Clinton Jones and retains Attard, Wall, Van Rheenan & Geary as rookies. That leaves us five open spots, which we can divide up 5-0, 4-1 & 3-2 between senior list and rookie list, depending on salary cap considerations.

Firstly, Eddy goes (am willing to be convinced otherwise). I think Raymond may be the next one to go, but all the others have cases for staying. Brooks can play forward KP, and with Gehrig gone that is a need. Brooks has kicked 3 goals in a half of an AFL game. Ferguson was far from poor in the last two games of the year, and performed well at VFL level this season. And Sweeney has many fans on this forum, and I assume with good reason.

So my estimation? Gehrig, Thompson, Doc Clarke, Voss retire, Raymond & Eddy delisted, Jones elevated, Attard, Van Rheenan, Geary & Wall retained as rookies. Four spots open for national draft, two open for rookie draft.
