Who wouldn't you rather play in Finals? St Kilda or North?

I would rather play North, we have a good recent record against them, especially in finals, and they would be less likely to do a surprisingly good performance compared to St Kilda.

And you lot are after your marvellous run at them last year?
.

Did I say the Dogs were?? You're very defensive ... at least last year gave the players experience in a very tight final

BTW I'm right that St Kilda aren't ready for finals ... because they're not going to make them

Have a horrible suspicion that OP made this thread in order to put "a young and exciting St Kilda side" in a post and to come back and look at it from time to time.

Seriously though - I think Bigfooty would be an interesting place for a bit if Saints got up over North so, as an otherwise neutral observer, Saints. Actually yeah - make it happen. Would be hilarious.

You implied it in the usual curiously arrogant way of a Bulldog supporter.

We dont need lectures from a team who made one finals then got unceremoniously dumped out.
Anyway on the evidence I saw, Bulldogs cant take finals like pressure. The last game against them was finals like pressure and the dogs could hardly score.

We won't make the finals this year, at least we wont get embarrassed like your mob when we do.

I think there's more value to St Kilda making the finals than North simply because North are on a decline and will fall off the cliff soon.

The hard fact is that this North team won't win a flag and elimination finals year on year don't get you into Premiership contention unless you're Sydney.

While i believe Saints won't make it now due to the loss against North and the task of winning all 3 with North losing all 3, i feel North are just making up the numbers ala St Kilda 2011 and will find themselves in St Kildas 2013 position before too long.

Nah, if we have Natanui and others healthy we'll win at home. Would not be confident playing anywhere else...

I don't mean WC specifically, just that I think 5th-8th is closer than many think. But yeah at home you're right, probably would be more confident. Just I predict we'll see the top 4 start breaking away from the other 4 in the final 3 rounds, and with a tough run for a lot of the top 8 sides, the first week could be a lot of close contests.

I mean, if you're playing North, even in Perth...North has shown time and time again that they're a different team come finals time. I think their performance now is irrelevant.

You'd think any team would rather face the Saints. Although I still think North has fallen off the cliff, and just hasn't realised that the ground is rushing up to meet them, they are a very experienced and well-drilled outfit. Most of their guys will lift for the finals.

Contrast our side - of our young (and young-ish) talent in Ross, Bruce, Members, Billings, Mav, Paddy, Gresh, Newnes, Webster, Blacres, Dunstan (ok, he won't be playing, but still) - they're all best 22 when fit - that is half the team - and _none_ (to my knowledge) have played in even a single final. Even if we stumble in somehow, there's no way we would be effective.

North. People quickly forget they've won two finals from the bottom half of the 8 the last two years. No reason why they can't do it this year. Especially if they play GWS in a semi.

Of the most likely teams to be fifth (and play North who are likely to finish in 8th) are the Cats (potentially at Skilled) or GWS (at Spotless), both are significantly better than Richmond in 2015, and Bombers in 2014, who North beat in Elimination finals. Given their injuries as well this year they'd start massive underdogs and probably get blown of the field.

Zero change we will play Cats at Skilled. The only reason they played Freo at skilled in a final was that there were 3 other games at the G that weekend.

That cant happen in 2016.

hope its the saints of course

I actually reckon Port would be more competitive than St Kilda in a final, due to their good record in finals in 2013-2014.

Unless St Kilda are playing a final at Etihad or a garbage team at the G, they'll struggle to be competitive in a final, at this point in their development. And I'm sure Saints fans would agree with me.

After reading this thread, would like to see Saints knock out North and then face Dogs. Would be main board magic

Doggies week one, Cats week two

who do we get in the prelim ?

I would argue that we now seem as well suited to the MCG as we do at Etihad (we seem to be able to really use the extra width there well and open up teams through the middle, winning our last 3 games there convincingly, against home tenants) and I don't see why we wouldn't be competitive with teams like Western Bulldogs and Geelong there (both of whom we have beaten in the last month or so).

Could get ugly if we were to play a final interstate though.

Tricky. Best value for Bigfooty would be for the AFL to somehow overturn the ban and invent some rule that gets Essendon up. And you play Carlisle
