Who's seen their team in a GF or seen them win?

I've been to two, for two wins.

Saw the Hawks do Carlton in '86 for my cherry

Snagged a ticket late for the epic in '89 then turned 21 the next day. :D
Funnily enough, I didn't get to work on Monday

Plenty of very successful footy clubs play in plenty of different leagues all over Australia. You may do well when it comes down to premierships won in a particular competition (SANFL) but I would almost reckon that there would be another club, in some also ran competition who have won as many premierships as the PAFC.

I am starting to get a little sick of "the Australia's most successful footy club" claims. What does success look like anyway.

My history isn't much better than yours but Port have won 36 premierships in the SANFL, which is more than any other side in any other competition in Australia.

The title "Australia's most successful club" gets thrown around a lot and has been discussed to death... but it's not just Port supporters who use it - I've heard it used in the media a few times by the "experts", whatever that's worth.

Seen Port Adelaide win the GF in 92, 94, 95, 96, 98, 99 and 2004. Seen ONE GF loss in 97 against Norwood. I know I'm a spoilt bastard, but that what you get when you support Australia's most successful footy club.
92, 94, 95, 96, 98, 99? 92 & 94 Eagles, 95 Carlton, 96 & 99 North Melbourne, wow you jump on and off teams quickly. How odd.

90, 93, 2000, and 2001

2 out of 4
50% - not great record, lucky enough to see them though so cant complain

The 2004 prelim final was just as special to me as i remember the fact that game could've went either way but i definitely think that the home crowd willed our players onto victory that night with moments such as Sean Burgoyne's tackle in the last quarter near the Saints goal, inspirational stuff & when the siren went the crowd went nuts i had complete strangers hugging me, the adulation was incredible.

I also went to our final training session & then caught the overland over to Melbourne & attended the grand final parade which was a lot different to how i thought it would be. Then the big game & when Josh Carr broke through that tackle & put our first goal on the board it was an incredible feeling i almost had goosebumps as so many people in unison raised their hands & yelled goal or whatever. When the final siren went it was just sheer joy & relief that we had finally climbed the mountaintop & no one can ever take that feeling away from you. :thumbsu:

It was the first time i had ever been to the MCG & i had the time of my life.

saw the crows premierships in 1997 and 1998 as a 12 and 13 year old.. greatest days of my life.

also went to the 94, 95 and 96 grand finals but once ur team has been there and won that, i found that i lost interest seeing other teams play.

Who has been to a GF, or seen their team in one..... or better, seen their team win one?

I went to the 1999 and 2001 WAFL Colts Grand Finals!
1999 win, 2001 loss.

I went to the 2000 g/f and sadly saw the result i expected......

have also been to the 92,93,96,97,98,99,01 and 04 g/fs and should be picking up tickets to this weeks one in about 8 hours

No wonder half the clubs playing in the grand finals members cant get tickets if this thread is anything to go by.

Half the stands are filled up with non-grand final teams supporters!

If ya teams not playing stay at home and wait ya turn so the clubs fans who are playing can get in.

Since you went off topic we enjoyed the 1999 preliminary final as much as any flag win! :) :) :)
Actually no,it's definatly on topic, which is talking about a 'flag winning culture',not a Spoon winning culture.Though i s'pose 'wiining'the spoon is some type of trophy,as Aints fans know.

My side has played in 1 Grand Final since I was born, 3 Prelim Finals and collected 7 wooden spoons.

I'm yet to see them win a premiership unless watching a replay of a game played 40 years ago counts!!!

Was there last year and for sustained pleasure there is not a lot to beat it. My wife and kids and I will have that afternoon to share as long as we are able to get together and reminisce. Incredible atmosphere, if you had been there you would never want it moved from the MCG.

I've been to six grand finals: 1992, 1994, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004.

The best of those was probably last year's, although '02 was a great contest.

Needless to say, 2000 was an absolute shocker. In hindsight, the Dees were never going to win, but it's still no good to lose a grand final.

It was off topic and Carlton have a Grand Final winning culture since we've won more Grand Finals than anyone.

Now how many spoons do Essendon have again? ;)

Saw 96, 98 and 99 meaning 2 flags out of 3... (98 still hurts today)

Also been to 6 of the last 10 due to corporate commitments, but have to admit that i would prefer that the ground was full of actual team supporters.

VFL thread. You've won one AFL GF and two spoons. Some winning culture.
