Why can't Adelaide retain players?

Haha. Nathan Bock, Lowry Angwin, Scott Thompson. Short memory.

Lance Angwin left the Crows in 2002 (and got into most of his trouble at Carlton), Nathan Bock left the Crows in 2010 and Scott Thompson got in trouble for hoon driving in 2008.

So the best you've got is something that happened 9 years ago. Meanwhile, just this year Port have had Impey crashing into 5 parked cars and then doing a runner, Ryder allegedly punching a police officer and Krakouer smashing a taxi's windscreen.

I reckon Mitch McGovern could play Lever's role just as well. Has the same read of the ball and "gecko hands" as his brother, just remains to be seen if he could slot into the structure.
I think the Crows have several players in their current squad that could play Lever's role. That's not really the issue that most Crows posters are pissed about.

It is the fact that Lever said he wanted to be a 10-15 year player for the Crows, then after playing for them for 3 years says,

"I'll stay if you make me the highest paid player at the club, but otherwise I'm outta here. Oh, and by the way, I'm totally leaving for family reasons, but I only want to be traded to 1 particular club, despite there being 9 clubs in Melbourne. K Thx Bye."

Not allegedly there is video evidence of it.

Geelong had this ideology in the 80s and refused to pay Greg Williams an extra 5k a year. They ended up losing him and 4 Grand Finals. Food for thought.
They had that same ideology when they won their 3 flags recently. So did hawthorn. All players were told if they wanted to keep the group together and win premierships they would have to turn down bigger offers elsewhere. They did. And they won premierships.

More food for thought.

probably not a great club to be around, they were also pretty cocky before the grand final as well, their fans were very cocky before the grand final

Why wouldn’t it be a great club to be around? What makes you say our players were cocky before the grand final? As for the fans, I certainly wasn’t cocky. You can check my posts before the match, I was pretty certain richmonds leaders would have more impact than ours and that’s how it played out. It was mainly neutrals and crows haters making it seem like we were sure things so it would seem like more of a failure if we were to lose.

Like I said to some neutral before the match that said it was Adelaide’s GF to lose- we both beat the same teams to get to the he GF and both earnt our right to play off in the GF, and It was richmonds to win just as much as it was ours.

Adelaide lose players because they are too soft on the trade table

If they harden the F up players will think twice

That’s part of it. But when you have a salary cap of 12 million and Adelaide turn 6 players that are on 400k in to players that other teams are offering a million to you just can’t keep them unless the player is loyal. You simply can’t pay 6 players a million each and divide the remaining 6 million between 38 players. That’s how you create bad culture. Let’s not forget Sloane is out of contract next yr, and we would like to keep the crouch brothers.

Tex came out in strong fashion, McGovern came out in strong fashion and signed, its up to the player whether $$$ or success is more important. Look at dusty. He just turned down big $$$ to remain at the tigers and look at the boost that gave everyone. People need to look at the character of the individual not necessarily the club. Clearly we have selected a few players where the $$$ talk.

They did, whether the reason they won was better coaching or whatnot I don’t know but it hasn’t translated to high draft numbers

2016 - 5
2015 - 10, Crows actually used their first pick on Milera, a South Aussie that year
2014 - 10

Of those years the only SA player who has turned out to be comparable to Lever is Caleb Daniel, but I don’t think the Crows were alone in underestimating him. I think if the Crows had similar academy provisions to the Swans, the draft local talent approach would probably work better, but at the moment there just isn’t enough high quality SA players coming through.
We're all aware that you used pick 10 as part of the Danger trade on Milera. You also used your own first rounder on recruiting another Geelong Falcon in Doedee.

Doedee may not leave and he may end up being a decent player, but right now it doesn't look like the best decision given you passed up the opportunity to secure local lad Ryan Burton.

I'm aware that he had some issues identified by your medical team post-surgery for his broken leg, so time will tell I guess, but for Ryan's sake I hope it blows up in your faces.

It's funny, Geelong has drafted more S.A. prospects than any other Victorian team. At one point I remember counting nine of our best-22 a few years back being Croweaters.

You've finished up with a few crackers from SA. Club did a lot of research on Burton, particularly his injury and rehab history. After taking Lever straight off of an ACL the club thought it prudent not to take the risk again. Phil Davis was also drafted after spending most of his draft year in surgery and then rehab. The club was clear that Doedee was a project player with some risk attached. They also felt the potential upside was worth it.

Most expect Doedee will debut next year. So he's just going to be a wait and see for now. A number of the SA players on Victorian lists were wanted, but if you don't have the draft pick you just have to move on.

Crows need to be targerting SA boys.
I'd like them to see them try and move up the draft order and grab Fogarty.
Target Francis from Essendon he could end up better than Lever with a bit of fitness.

How much was McGovern's contract?

"I'll stay if you match the offer I've received from a club in my home state, since what you've offered is much less than that currently"

Probably best to try and be accurate instead of doing your best tex impersonation.

"How dare he leave for 200k a year. He told us when he was 18 he would stay!"

The lack of hate for Scott Thompson and Sam Jacobs is a little weird.

Why hasn't Tex destroyed them for being disloyal?

Context. Neither of these situations are comparable to Lever. Neither of these players left their clubs to chase $$$.

Jacobs was 3rd or 4th ruck at Carlton at the time. Usually fringe players aren't given shit for leaving for greater opportunities. Just look at Maric. He's still very popular here and you'd be hard pressed to find a single Adelaide supporter with a grudge against him.

Thompson wen't home for family reasons because his brother was sick. Dees we're given pick 12 which was a fair trade at the time. Thommo really didn't start to dominate until 3 years after he left Melbourne anyway.

All seems kind of moot anyway. Who cares if Tex holds a grudge against Lever? He's the Crows captain and a club stalwart. I don't think licking Jake Lever's arseh*le is part of his job descrription.

I have no issue with either of those guys leaving, both went home for better deals than what they were on. Both had valid reasons to return to their home state, also, Jacobs was never going to be short opportunity at Carlton, he'd worked his way up the pecking order to be their first option to pair with Kruezer.

There's only 1 characteristic we all share as football fans, we're all hypocrites.
Just another example of that at play here.

Well mainly because Jacobs was unwanted by Carlton...its not like he was their number 1 ruck and left them in the lurch for money.
Thompson wanted to come home, but didnt try to blackmail melbourne into overpaying him.

If you cant see the difference then you probably shouldn't comment.

Also how would you expect the captain to react to something like this?
The team that took a chance on an injured Lever when nobody else wanted to touch him in the first round, that developed him into an AA squad member at 21 probably deserves to be treated better than what he has.

And whats the mind of a typical port supporter?
Methamphetamine affected mush?

Or is it just their players that are on the gear?

Whatever you say champ.

Gonna be tough for you when you have to change your account name next year.
