Why do you love Richo?

Because when I was in Primary School I borrowed a Library book which I never returned. I think it was called "Superstars of Winter" or "Winter Superstars" or maybe "Superstars of Football" I can't really remember.. :)

In that book were guys like Ablett, Dunstall, Lockett, Carey, Hird, Gavin Brown, Wanganeen etc. etc.

I'd assume it was published in around '94 (but I'm not sure..)

Richo was also in that book.

I'm now 25.

I cannot remember the AFL without Richo in it.

+ he seems like a really genuine and fun guy when I watch him on the footy show.. :) (can't believe no one has mentioned that..)

cos he cracks the shits so bad when his team doesnt pass him the ball
biggrin.gif

ever notice that 90% of the time that the commentators say that happened, there's no actual footage of it?

yeah it happens, but nowhere near as much as we're led to believe

and when it does happen it's almost always when he was one out against an opponent and his teammate kicks to a 2 on 1 contest in the pocket...he wears his heart on his sleeve and anyone would be annoyed at that

I used to just laugh at him and his kicking, but now I love him. I think the turning point for me was that game against Essendon with the push and 50. I just felt so bad for him.

I love him because he is so real.

because he'll take the biggest mark, and kick the greatest shank :D, everytime i see him havin a shot close i think, out on the full. But 55 out on the pocket wrongsided he'll slot it.

gives me a laugh everytime. It's funny coz even though i dont barrack for Richmond, everytime Richo gets a touch i shout out RICHO!

Richo is the "Yin and the Yang".

He epidermises both determination and frustration, but I would have him at Collingwood any day. The guy loves his footy and he loves his club. When he is on he's sublime and when is not he's human.

Keep going Richo...
ps. Love the song too.......Richo, Richo man......

cos he's Richo. Never met him but he seems like a genuinely good fella that you'd sit down and have a beer with. He does not have tickets on himself and his brilliance and his screw ups and the emotional highs and lows are 24 carat solid gold.

Richo is Richmond. He loves the club and the club loves him, he doesn't know anything else...and as a fan who has grown up watching him neither do I.
Some players are superstars, they turn up week in week out and give their best and dominate or at least do very well nearly everytime they set foot upon the ground. Richo gives his absolute all like the superstars of our game yet it doesn't always work out in his favour. People can see how hard he works and feel for him when things don't go his way, in a way I suppose you could say he has a bit of battler about him. That said though, when the moons and stars align and it's Richo's day....no-one can turn it on in the AFL like he can. No-one.
His ability to do the sublime one minute and something terrible the next, really cements his status as the people's footballer. When ever he's missed a set shot 20,15 or 10 m out, we've all said to ourselves "Oh....even I could have kicked that!!". In between his general brilliance, he always reminds people that deep down at heart he's just as human as the rest of us, and like him we all make mistakes. In an age of superfast almost robotic athletes, Richo harks back to the days of footballers. He's not perfect, but then...would we want him to be?
Richo is loved by so many people because he is real, the emotions he gives on the field are real. Richo is one of the few things that brings colour to our corporate and bland game these days. He is the last of the characters. Watching Richo play is like watching an opera unfold, it could end happily or sadly....but you are gonna be glued to him while you experience every emotion possible, the highs and the lows.
Off field, I have never had the privelige of meeting him. That said I have never ever heard a bad word said about the man. His humbleness and personality comes through in nearly everything I've heard said or written about him.

Whether you love him, admire him or god forbid dislike him, when he finally hangs up those boots for the last time...everyone will say, "Jesus......it's really quite boring without Richo".

I love Richo because he wears his heart on his sleeve.

I love Richo because he has shown incredible loyalty, but is still human enough to crack it at his teammates (in the past).

I love Richo because he kicks the impossible goals and then sprays the easy ones.

I love Richo because he clearly has a sense of humour and is a good bloke.

I love Richo because he is a great footballer, too.
