Could you do some research on this before spreading misinformation.

For a start, there's no such thing as the Sharia Council. Islam isn't centralised like Catholicism.

And the UK does recognise marriages performed by Imams. However they also have to conform to the UK's requirement for marriages of all faiths to have a civil ceremony in an approved establishment. A lot of Muslims perform marriage rituals yet don't have the civil ceremony so they're not considered legal marriages in the UK. They're legally viewed as defacto relationships.

None of this is relevant to Australia which doesn't have the antiquated marriage laws that require a civil ceremony. In Australia imams can easily register nikbah marriages. A heap of Australian marriages - not just Islamic - don't conform to UK marriage laws.

In a way you're right though, the UK does need to update their marriage laws to better reflect society.

People entering the country, generally, can legally lie about their ideology but can't legally lie about their country of birth.
