Why Port Adelaide will win the AFL Premiership in 2008

History has shown that empires rise out of the ashes.

Look at Macedon in 800BC. A small city state not worth mentioning. It had a few small battles with neighbors (other AFL teams). It won a few, lost a few, got overrun (2007 AFL grand final), then reclaimed their land (2008 and beyond). In 400BC, Phillip makes Macedon a city state worth mentioning and becomes a considerable force in Macedon and throughout Greece. Similar to say being in the top two of the AFL ladder. Prior to Phillip, you had Perdicas. After Phillip came Alexander, similarly like after Fos Williams came Mark Williams. In 330BC, Alexander marches out of tiny Macedon and takes over the whole world, defeats the Persian empire and is the greatest for ten straight years and earns his spot as the greatest military general ever to have walked this earth. This will be Port Adelaide Power in a few years and analogous to winning consecutive flags in the next five years. Basically, Williams is gearing up to march out of Alberton and dominate the whole AFL world. Port's defeat is the battles they had to lose and learn by their loss to win the flag. That’s all it is. The 2007 grand final loss was the loss that Port Adelaide had to have. Similarly, Macedon suffered some defeats and it learnt from them in time for Alexander to execute. These lads at Alberton are just like Macedon or Rome.....they are gearing up to dominate the AFL.

If you look at it more specifically, the year is 337BC and Alexander is now 20. His father was murdered and Alexander (Mark Williams) is hungry for the flag. His father (Fos Williams) had already subdued Greece paving the way for Alexander to march out into Asia (Ancient middle east) with an army of 30,000 strong. His first battle is in Sussa (North East Turkey) against the King of the mighty Persian empire. The King’s name is King Darius. He is what they call a god king if you like. He is that powerful that he is considered a divine god. However, standing in Darius’ way in Sussa is an amibitious young man called Alexander (Chocco), encamped in front of the Persian army. Out numbered three to one, Alexander uses his brilliant tactics and defeats the Persians outright. Darius is now on the run. Then comes battle two agaisny Darius at Guagamela. Alexander faces Darius again but this time Darius has his whole army on the field. Again, Alexander defeats the army and chases Darius all the way to the Hellespont. Alexander has now defeated the Persian army twice. Prior to his two battles at Sussa and Guagamela, Alexander crossed the Bosporus and prayed at the site where Achilles fought at troy. Following his battles with Darius, Alexander marched into Babylon (Persian headquarters) as the ultimate King. He has won the flag. At the age of 21 Alexander is the ruler of the known world. But he does not stop there. He fights armies through Persia, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, India, Phonecia (Lebanon), Israrel, Ghaza and Isbekistan and makes his way back again to the Persian heartland. This is the Port equivalent, make no mistake, Port are the Empire coming soon. Port is like Alexander at the age of 19. We have trained, have experienced tough losing battles and learnt from our mistakes. And now we are ready to march out and defeat the current empire in a bid to be the greatest. Teams like Collingwood though are not exactly recorded in history, they are like the Goths, a barbaric tribe (ancestors of the Germans) that are vicious and violent and feral and made a few raids on Roman cities. They caused a bit of trouble for Rome but Rome got a bit serious and ****ed them good and hard. That’s the end of the Goths until WWI where Germany declares war on the world some 2200 years later.

To summarise why Port will win the AFL flag in 2008:

It was the year 800BC and the first ever King of Macedon was a man called Perdicas I who was the first of a long line of kings from Argos on the Peloponnese. Being in the northern most part of Greece, Macedon (Port Adelaide) was constantly invaded by barbaric tribes (other AFL teams) further north claiming territory in lightning raids. Perdicas lost his first three battles against these tribes from the steps of modern Russia but then won the next seven. He lost...he learnt..and then won.. Macedon was just a small place of no importance. A state ruled by kings which was overrun by Epirus further south and sometimes Thessaly yet by the time Phillip (Fos Williams) arrived on the scene he had learnt from the previous defeats his nation endured. He quickly turned Macedon to a considerable force and by the time Alexander (Chocco) was a young teenager, Phillip had subdued the rest of Greece and united it under his command. To do this he had to defeat Thebes which at the time was the strongest in Greece. And he did this successfully (minor premiers at this point). Alexander though was reaching manhood, his hunger for glory was making him jealous of his father who was ready to march to Persia. This small insignificant place in Europe (Alberton) was about to become the greatest empire that roamed the earth (AFL).

You watch Port turn this all around.

That is all.

What rubbish

I am sick of reading ramblings by Port supporters that believe that an SANFL type senario is just around the corner for Port Adelaide, I have heard the same rubbish for over 10 years yet with each reminder of life in the big league for them they still dont seem to get it.

Port got there because they has an easy finals draw, I wish the crows had half of that luck.

You win enough matches to scrape into the eight and then you want luck as well? 1998 Board.
