Why was Cousins not sacked last weekend?

For all those who want your proof, here is the link to the article which states this:

http://realfooty.com.au/news/news/ea...018935662.html

Here is the most relevant part:

"The Sunday Age yesterday reported Cousins was last week at Melbourne's Beach Hotel with former teammate Michael Gardiner and Victor Kizon, brother of Perth's John Kizon, and another former Perth man who allegedly works for a company owned by the Coffin Cheaters motorcycle club."

He has really outdone himself Cousins. He should be sacked immediately. Obviously he will never learn his lesson. If he wanted to get better, he would cut all ties with these sorts of people.

first of all the link does not work, please fix it so we can see the full aerticle and who the reporter is

second of all all of those people you alledge that he is rumoured to have had a glass of water with are not criminals, nor would be on the list of banned people propsed by the eagles.

Like I said, the ablett brothers have closer links to an alledged known criminal and drug addict, should they and the entire geelong team be sacked after the next fathers day?

I think that being drug tested after every game is sufficient enough to ensure he does not start taking substances again. Saying that he cant share a soda pop with anyone with a criminal record, their family members and anyone who may work for a company in which one of its shareholders may be a criminal, is just ludicrous.

In this instance YES.

This is not the 1st time he has been told to not associate with this group of people. He blatantly ignores what he is told.

You realise he is not only thumbing his nose at your club but at you the supporters.

he thinks he is invincible, he can do no wrong.

Sad sad times ahead for that boy.
We'll see
if he was to ignore the rules put in place why was he drinking soda water all night

The club is convinced.

AFL is not and they will have the final say. AFL clubs cannot be trusted to put the player before the club. ANY AFL club, not just WCE.

Certainly hasn't helped his case and has shown poor judgement on his behalf... AGAIN.

Not even Ben is that stupid.

So because he works for a company that is owned by the Coffin Cheaters, that makes that man a criminal?

FFS people, who the **** are you to say what a person can and can't do. The posts in this thread make me sick

The Eagles or the AFL have no right to tell him what time or where he goes out or who he is friends with. They have the right to ask him to behave, not do drugs and not damage the club or brand by innapropriate behaviour but other than that they can get stuffed.

It is total BS as well that the eagles are under this massive threat of losing premiership points/draft picks if someone in their club screws up at all!!!! How long does this last coz it is bound to happen with 40 young guys on a list.

I'm not washing my hands of the dramas the eagles have had, they are not good but to be threatened with loss of premiership points if some 0 game rookie smashes his car whilst pissed and runs from the cops or similar is insane!!!!!

West coast must be living in a world of fear every weekend!

In the article Gooding says it's a "huge risk" to allow Cousins to play again.

After this weekend Cousins has shown at best an appalling lack of judgement, and at worst he shows he really isn't serious about getting better and getting back in the team.

Now it's an even huger risk. Maybe it's not worth it.

Let him go and he can hang out with whoever he wants, whenever he wants.

TheBushranger provided a link, but it has been all over the media. Get your head out of the sand mate.

"Get your head out of the sand": BF's favourite cliché for anyone who has no comeback to an Eagles supporter's argument.

Yes, TheBushranger provided a link. Shame it contains no proof whatsoever of your accusations, but it's a link nonetheless.

Try again.

Only problem for that from the Eagles perspective, is that if they just let him walk away they are stuck paying him 800k pa for the next year and a half.

Much better to renegotiate the contract now, with an instant dismissal clause, and wait until (a) he stuffs up again and you can sack him and immediately terminate the contract or (b) trade time - see if you can get something for him in a fire sale.

The AFL will have to approve him to play but there is no real reason why they wont approve him is there?

Yes he might make it hard for him hanging out with any underworld figures if they are involved in drug use but he can still hang out with them if he chooses to??
If the contract says he can't then obviously he won't.

The Eagles have let him run riot for years now.

Associations with John Kizon, nightclub shootings, drugs, running from booze buses etc.

The Eagles want it to come to an end.

Can you please read what you are typing before you post it, OK?

You are contradiciting yourself. Being friends (or associating) with Michael Gardiner and John Kizon IS damaging the brand of the club.

Agreed.

As if our own backyards are clean.

FFS sake people let him burn himself if that is indeed what happens.

Cant stop him from hanging out where he wants to.

And if he burns WCE on the way thru, that's OK too? No harm done if Ben's lack of judgment leads to loss of draft picks, premiership points & other such punishments?

YOu're way more understanding than I'd be with a recalcitrant Swans player.

If he was told he was not allowed to hang out with them then he wouldn't
He obviously hasn't been told that

Unfortunately there's nobody Cousins can pay to keep quiet.

The guy is one of the best footballers of the modern era and bled for your club.

So he likes to party.

BIG DEAL.

He has never hurt anyone, he is a nice bloke, and all you do gooders are tearing him down.

Footballers right through history have been no different and just because of our insanely anal laws, and extreme sensationalist media the mob speaks.

For all the good of democracy history shows us that the '*** factor' inevitably destroys it. How do you feel being a ***?

Leave the guy alone, he is a champion of your club.

FFS, Cousins and Gardiner are mates.

If I am a lawyer, am I allowed to have a drink in the pub with a mate who has spent time inside for robbery and GBH?

Of course I am. Just because I am with him, doesn't mean I'm going to go out and rob a bank and assault someone myself.

The state of paranoia about this issue is ridiculous.

Gardiner has not had so much as a sip of beer since Christmas.

He has never hurt anyone, he is a nice bloke.

But if sees nothing wrong with associating with underworld crime figures who are responsible for heroin & other hard drug traffiiking, extortion, prostitution, assault, blackmail, murder and other assorted misery in the community.... the question is .. is he really a nice guy???
