I think the reason Clarko hasn't embarked on a full on re-build over the last year or two is because he genuinely believes we are still contending.
Hence the top up players over the last couple of years.
I think our performances this year, particularly over the last 3 weeks, may have finally convinced him that we're not in contention. Because we aren't.
The question he has to ask himself, probably at the end of this year is, "do I have the will, the stamina, the determination to do it all again and rebuild this club?".
We know he's capable of doing it of course but unless he really wants to do it and is fully committed to it 100% then he should arrange for an orderly transition, probably to Sammy.
The ball's in his court really.

Lets just assume theres a handover as many are suggesting (bear in mind most commentators would love clarko at their club) If Sam, for example takes over, how soon is he in the pickle Rhyce Shaw finds himself in now)
Better that the loyal coach takes some of the pain and the successor gets to come in on the upswing.

We were in the depths of despair in '06, two years later, holding aloft a premiership cup.
2009 we were crying and wailing, lamenting being the only club in decades not to make the finals the year after winning a flag, 2 years later we're a kick off a GF, the year after runners up, the year after embarking on a glorious 3-peat.
Have some faith and patience. Again.

In 2006 I had a lot more faith in the young talent we had at the club, I didn't think it would all happen so quick but our list of 22 and unders included Hodge, Mitchell, Franklin, Roughead, Lewis and Birchall.

You would have been the exception in bigfooty at the time. Still remember the club being blasted for the 04 draft Buddy Roughy Lewis

Is Clarko getting outcoached?

Players effort makes a massive difference, yes. But it looks like other teams have got us covered so easily, and we don't look like we're doing anything different.

When you get pummeled around the ball like yesterday there's not much the coach can change IMO

All evidence suggests a hard no at this point.

It's time to accept that reality of our situation by adjusting the strategy and resetting the time-frames.

Put Stratton, Burgoyne and Puopolo out to pasture for good. Scully, Shiels and Henderson are on thin ice, however the latter was better yesterday so hopefully he's getting back on track.

We have posters who have watched Walker, Ross, Nash, Jones and Moore in the VFL and have talked them up to various degrees - it's time to see them have a crack and see if they can show us something and generate some excitement. Throw in Finn too and suddenly the fans may be able to actually enjoy watching us play again.

I personally don't really care about "senior bodies" needing to protect them, and without them we will get trounced given we are getting embarrassed with the senior bodies in the side already. And look at how Day has been going, despite his size he hasn't missed a beat.

We still have a very strong core of players that are established and will be around in 4/5 years time, hopefully when our younger brigade have fully mature:

Hardwick
Frost
Sicily
Impey
Scrimshaw

Mitchell
JOM
Worpel
Day

Wingard
Gunston (?)
Lewis
Patton
Morris

So I hope we spend the year blooding our young players then trade out fringe players like Cousins and Howe (or keep him as depth?) and capitalize on the draft - a top five pick, a pick in the early twenties and Downie with points would be absolutely amazing. If we can secure Williams (very doubtful, but you can dream) then we will have made out like bandits in this crazy year.

Yes IMO he is. Our game plan is far too slow and predictable. The only time we looked dangerous was when we broke free and moved quickly. Otherwise it's so easy to set-up against.

The knee-jerk commentary and amnesiac hysteria amongst fans and certain members of the media is embarrassing and, frankly, unjustified. The current list is a lot better than the last three weeks and, ultimately, can only really be judged mid-way through the 2021 home and away season, which, hopefully, will be a mostly faithful return to the old normal.

Hey! That is calm, logical and well-reasoned thinking! That has NO place here in the BF circus, where irrational clowns, jokers and hysterical sooks abound....

A lot of people changed their votes after the Brizzy and Tiges games
I dont think he got out coached in those games

I honestly think it is a bit of both. Structures don't seem to be working and players are making some shocking decisions with ball in hand. Some players are also dreadfully out of form.

“It’s never as good or as bad as it seems”.

We’ve been ordinary the last 3 weeks, but a week is a long time in footy and you can find form as quickly as you can lose it.
