Will we select a recycled hack in this Saturday's National Draft?

IMHO, I reckon it's unlikely as this is the last draft before GC17 hog all the picks and it appears to be a rather deep pool of talent. If anything, I think we might go the other way with our last pick and grab a bottom-aged kid. Most, if not all, of the recycled players referred to in this thread will still be available in the PSD. That would be the appropriate time to take a punt.

Why in God's name would we be interested in Chad Jones.

We got rid of the bloke when we were desperate for Key Forwards, and now that we have a plethora of them, you think we're once again looking at him? Unlikely me thinks.

You could have said the same thing about Daniel Pratt. He started with us, got delisted and ended up at Brisbane. They delisted him and we re-drafted him - and it's not as if we've ever had a shortage of medium sized defenders. Now Pratt is the deputy vice-captain.

Like you, I reckon it's highly unlikely that we'll redraft Jones. But with some blokes, it takes a while for the penny to drop. What would happen if Jones rang Laidley and said, "Hey Dean, you were right. I do have ability, but I'm lazy. I'd like to come over and train with the team over summer. If you hold off a pick for the PSD, maybe I could prove myself to be worthy of it". If he's still eligible for the rookie list, maybe he'd fight for a spot there.

I'm not sure Chad ever had some outstanding ability though. Pratt had attitude problems, but always had talent. Chad I gather, from a lack of reports from the contrary, seems to have the attitude, but not the talent.

As I said, I really don't know, but talent seems to be the deciding factor in calls such as these.

Anyone who saw his pre-season game against Sydney at Optus Oval a few years back as well as some of his VFL stuff wouldnt doubt his talent. Chad had a few tricks in the bag and i always thought he could play.

His problem with us was that he didnt eat! And when he did get a go, it was the usual 10 minutes off the bench and no chance to get a feel for the pace of AFL footy.

All that said, the fact that a club like West Coast, who can turn weedy kids into animals and who are so bereft of key talls would let him go probably points to the distinct probability that he isnt going to make it.

The Chad has signed with Claremont so i dont think he will get another go at AFL level, although he did kick 9 goals in the last WAFL game this year.

Was he playing on a future Brownlow Medallist? If so, he's a must have.

Jason Davenport from Geelong would be worth a shot I reckon. Would be 23 or24 I'd say and is a long kicking wing type who kicks goals. Didn't get a go at the Cats because their side is too strong. Wouldn't surprise to see Geelong redraft him witheir last pick as.listening to Balme, they didn't want to delist him but had to due to draft requirements. Indicated there were others they would have preferred to delist but they were contracted.

Zac Dawson and Peverill are both duds the only player i would takeb is ben cousins and i'm preying to god we take him you only try

I think he has the athleticism, but probably not the footy brain.

I don't get this.

This time last year, the story came out that we wanted Sam Power, and people said that at 24 with 80 (mostly average) senior AFL games under his belt, he wasn't the right kind of player to add to our list.

North fans also got upset when we traded a very late draft pick for Ben Davies. He was 21, played a few senior games for Collingwood, and plenty of Pies fans thought he should have been given more of a go in their senior team.

But people don't seem to be bothered if we pick up Jason Davenport. Drafting him has been mentioned by a few posters here. He's 23 and he has never broken into the Geelong senior side. Sure he rips it up at VFL level, but then again, so did Stuart Cochrane.

Just throwing his name out there in lne with the topic. At pick 71 he may well be considered "best available". Anyway I think Geelong will redraft him.

dont worry bout the recycled guys. news is that steele sidebottom is very keen to play for us, would b a handy fit into our side and after 3-4 games in vfl could slip straight in!

cuzo would have fitted straight into our side and with our admin, he could stay under wraps!

As has been stated eleventy billion times before our admin said we are not going to pick up Ben Cousins.

Hope not as next year the new Gold Coast team have so many draft picks in next years draft. I think North should use all there draft picks on youth & don't participate in the PSD

Steven Armstrong played well against us in a 2002 Elimination Final, so would be in the mix.

I imagine the following players may have been considered:

  • Chris Egan (Collingwood)
  • Tom Hislop (Essendon)
  • Chad Jones (West Coast)
  • Danny Meyer (Richmond)
  • Gary Moss (Hawthorn)

Gary Moss is my cousin and hawthawn are pickin him up!
If we got Chad Jones i would be thinkin WTF
Egan is a spanner and danny meyer cant get a game at rihmond y would he get a game with us
I love tom hislop but
