Brilliant first quarter then it was turnover city until they steadied at the end of the last. Callan was pretty good and Grant, Roughead, Wood and Markovic fair, other Dogs players didn't stand out. Eagle was good in the last few mins to help them over the line.

My favourite spud looks like he might be starting to come good. Great contested grabs, importantly against the flow of play, great set shots and really looked like he wanted to be there kicking goals. Had a bit of passion and determination about him. Well done J.Grant.

Sidenote: Eagle looked a class above out there and was a big part of the last 5 goals, but is it just me or did he look a little tubby in that Willi jumper....

Armchair summary would be good if someone who saw it would care to give impressions and scores. Thanks.

Willy won 131-106 (or something very similar).

- It's all been said about Grant. Looked good. He now needs to keep it up because there are several fringe players ahead of him in terms of getting regular senior time.
- Eagleton got better as the match went on. Seemed to play without restriction; will be in line for a recall next week should there be space (maybe in for Moles).
- Wood played in the back half, showed some decent signs.
- Addison played in midfield/on the ball and was typically hard at it (disposal still a massive query).
- Roughead twisted his knee early but came back on and had an impact. Will be a player. Knocking on the senior door.
- Cordy looks to have bulked up. We'll need to be patient but there is a bit to like.
- Rose and Little (7 goals) were excellent for Williamstown, probable vote getters.

Just watched the game.

Eagleton
very good especially in the last when the pressure was on.

Grant
Stood up when it really counted. Got involved in the game and good hands with contested marking.

Addison
Also very good. Really did well in and under. Excellent player but it may be that his best position at senior level is the one occupied by Daniel Cross.

Roughead
Looks very good and overcame an early knock. Really seems to have the tools to succeed. Probably needs a little more body strength and overall fitness to make it at the top level. Should be ready to make a real impact within 2 years.

Wood
Was ok, but really did well when he needed to in the last.

Stack
Just moves so well and did some very good things. Still needs to do more.

Rose
Played very well and has embraced the midfield role. Got a lot of the ball but faded out a bit.

Cordy
Showed some good signs, but still a way to go.

Jones
Hit the contest hard and brought the ball to ground. Again needs some experience and development.

Markovic
Took some nice grabs, but also beaten at the contest a few times by Dawes. Pace may be an issue.

Hooper
Struggled

Thorne and Mulligan
Both off injured and gone for the day in the 1st.

Overall a pretty good effort and the Bulldogs players acquitted themselves well.
Eagleton about ready to go up.
Addison showed why he remains in the mix.
Grant, Roughead, Rose and perhaps Stack and Wood show that they can offer something if a chance comes their way.

Couldnt agree more with your comments Bulldog Joe

Eagleton will play next week I think, he really stood up when needed

Roughead will be a very good player when he muscles up

Grant is still very light, too light for a KPP at AFL level, although his contested marking was excellant and he has good hands

Finally, I can see what the selectors must have seen in J Grant.

He took atleast 4 really strong grabs on a decent opponent in Collingwood's N.Brown. And perhaps, more importantly, he went back and slotted the goals through at some pressure moments, very key moments.

Who ever is in charge of his weights program should be dismissed immediately. The kids arms can best be described as twigs/match sticks. I don't believe there would be another player on any VFL, let alone AFL, list with less muscle on their arms.

With a little bit of bulk and consistency of effort J Grant will no doubt become a very good player.

Grant is an ectomorph by the looks, if so it is very hard for him to gain weight and once past your equilibrium weight, it is very easy to lose all the hard work if you take your eye off the ball (ie lazing out post season).

Some players are just naturally lightly framed ie Robert Murphy and Grant appears to be one of those players.

I dont think its as easy to point the finger at who's in charge. Maybe its Grant himself that is the problem when it comes to putting on weight??

In an article about Everitt last week the 2nd last sentence was of interest about Grant:

Stack is a real worry for me. He seems to go missing for big chunks of the game. Surely the coaching staff need to try something else with him. His career is going know where fast.

I suggest putting him down back as a flanker that way he may be taken to the ball. At-least this would get him in the play more. Either that or try him in a tagging role.

Give him a job and he may deliver.

Murphy is not big and Dustin Fletcher is not either. Do you think that perhaps some players cannot put on bulk? The 2 players I have mentioned are strong in a one on one contest and know how to use their body which is the most important thing.
