It's a chemistry thing I believe. How often did Geelong 2007 to 2011 change their backline depending on the opposition. Not very IIRC

For your post above, O’Donnell is probably just the best option available. Although he is 197cm, he’s quick across the ground so can probably play on medium forwards with no real issues.

May look tall on paper but O'Donnell has played his best footy in defence when he hasn't had to act as a key defender. He can in a pinch obviously but when he's got licence to work into attacking positions or as an outlet he is doing OK.

So I'm not sure that's the best evidence.

Not saying it can't work but at this stage I think it's a stretch to suggest our backline is comparable with their triple premiership backline.

Agree that it can't be compared in terms of quality but that the preferred backline should be selected whenever possible for cohesion and familiarity outcomes beyond this week.

I'm super keen to see how West goes in the midfield tonight. It's going to be the most midfield time he's had since the Geelong match in the final round of 2023 when he had six clearances along with 24 disposals.

He looked great in the second half last week when he featured in a few CBAs. Two clearances from those four CBAs which led to two scoring shots.

The scary thing is he's in career best form and this is the best chance he's ever had to show why he should be full time mid.

I'm expecting a huge impact from Rhylee tonight.

I'm OK with playing him if they think they can make it work. In terms of both current form and potential I think JOD is better than anyone we have in the VFL apart from Lobb so I want to see him play.

I just don't think we can compare our back 6 to the triple premiership back 6 that Geelong had. Maybe Jones and Dale and perhaps even Duryea would qualify. The others less so, although JOD and Freijah show great promise.

To be honest, we really should win this game. Both outs are comparable but our depth is a lot better. Our VFL team is 8-0 while theirs is 2-6. Not many teams have a player like Lobb to come in for tall forward depth, Collingwood would kill to have him right now and probably will next year.

The new system has been clicking lately. Our young guns in West, Gags, Garcia etc are really starting to cement themselves in the midfield, especially at the end of last week.

Yeah both teams have a tonne of injuries. My main concern is we are missing 3 of our best 4 players (Libba, Red, Naughts) plus Baz.

I still have no clue about this team, and therefore no clue about tonight (having no clue isn't uncommon for me with most things).

Round 1: Outside of the first ten minutes we were awful, Melbourne wasn't even that good that day.
Round 2: An awesome first quarter led to a comfortable game. I think GC are ok.
Round 3: Played well, the margin probably flattered us a bit as WC were competitive throughout the game. Results since have shown this is ok form.
Round 4: Didn't look like winners for most of the night, but hung in. We weren't playing great footy but still competed against a team that was red hot at the time. Could have pinched it, and it wouldn't have been unjust.
Round 5: We sucked. Essendon have proven to be decent, but it felt like we were chasing tail all night. Bad kicking didn't help, but I still don't think we deserved to win by any stretch.
Round 6: Played well against a shizen team. Glad we are showing that we put teams away that we should.
Round 7: Tough game in which we didn't play all that well, against a team that is hard to beat over there. Freo deserved to win but the margin was flattering for them.
Round 8: We didn't play well and I think the margin flattered us. The Hawks had us covered for most of the game outside of the first burst.
Round 9: Played well against a super shizen team. Again put them away quickly which was good. Margin actually flattered the Tiges a little.
Round 10: Played really well throughout, but kicking at goal cost us (admittedly a little unfortunate with posters and rushed behinds. Are our entries too close to goal? We seem to get more rushed behinds than most). Beat a quality opponent on their sh*thole comfortably.
Round 11: Played really well, and only lost because of bad kicking at goal, as well as losing key players. If we kicked straight and didn't lose Naughty and Red...that result could have been something.

Trying to take a pattern from that is hard. I think Rd 1 is an outlier somewhat. I think rds 2-8 we hung in most games despite not playing our best. Won some, lost some. The last 3 have looked really positive. Are we finally starting to click with a somewhat new style? I'm hoping tonight follows the latest too early to tell trend. I'm also hoping injuries don't derail this form from the last few.

If we make finals we will definitely have deserved it, given what we have to come. We will also have a much better idea than we have in a long time on whether we are a decent team or not, and whether the coach and coaching team are the same.

In saying that...Dogs by 15...scoring shots...so most likely 15 points as well.

Naughton's a bigger out than people realise, both Dogs fans but especially non-Dogs fans. His performances has been consistently excellent this year - absolutely one of the best forwards in the comp - but it's hardly being discussed in the media or in general. Betting markets have this right as close to a 50/50 game. Given our finals qualification chances are also roughly the same, depsite only halfway in the season, this genuienly does feel like a 50/50 elimination final of sorts. Will be a good thrill.

Our depth amongst the 23 is significantly better than previous years. Last year we relied heavily on Bont, Libba & English whereas that certainly isn’t the case this season.

No one is really unhappy with any of players named other than maybe VDM, and even he’s played a lot better recently compared to some early season performances.
