Nice kick and mark …. any idea on his combine stuff. Does the club think he can play elsewhere … as he seems he would be a very difficult type to match up on if he floated forward
Tested well in the jump categories at the State Combine, can't see him playing anywhere other than forward. Ideally would be your second tall behind a monster forward (Neale maybe) long-term.

Marking is clearly this guy go. Has very strong dukes.

Hopefully he has a few more strings to his bow though.

Clearly Wells rates him taking him with our first selection... although I like the athletic prowess of our next two picks more.
He may not be the quickest or tallest but aerial capability is our fwd line deficiency so he at least fits that

It will be interesting because we essentially have Henry playing that role already and I think it would be hard to have them both in that forward line plus a 2nd ruck rotating through there.
I wonder if we could develop him into a mid eventually but he may not have the tank for it.

It's worked very well with Cameron + Henry and I categorise Cameron as not a traditional kpf but a half forward capable of playing tall.

I can see the club looking at these selections with an eye on the future.

Of course, if we somehow brought in a Cadman, not sure how it would work.

I could see a three tall forward core of Neale Polkinghorne and Henry being structurally sound.

Was thinking Mitch Georgiades if we keep him forward. Similar sort of style and powerful build, at least from those highlights.

Would take that in a heartbeat.

Have to agree with Mitch Georgiades similarities, good call KG...... so rapt we've drafted this kid, looks to have untapped potential, let's just hope he has a dedicated mindset. Coz the sheer natural ability is there, which 95% of other players don't have.

Post Stanley and Blicavs, I don't think we'll have a traditional 2nd ruck. I think we're hoping for a Gawn/Grundy style number 1 who takes 90% of the centre bounces in 80% of game time

I don't think Conway has the tank for that so I'm not sure how it works. Either neale is the 2nd ruck or you have someone as a fwd like edwards/Pike interchanging as your r2.

Conway's tank will build over time.

But I think SDK will be a more free roaming defender who will play 2nd ruck a fair bit too. We've got Henry as our long-term full back and O'Sullivan as a tall defender as well so can give SDK licence.

Hard to know till we see him play at the level but im a little nervous if he has not got the ability to get up and around. He will play at whole different level trying to take marks at afl level. But going by what Wells said…he think he could play in D or up the ground ..so he must think he is capable.

Can he provide a contest down the line? It was infuriating this year as we had the best smalls in the league but Henry, Cameron, Stanley and Neale have no idea in contests that involve more than one player.

Blitz and Danger were literally the only down to line players who provide any type of presence.

Conway's career won't go very far if he can't build that kind of tank

That's true and that's one reason I worry about Conway with all the injuries. I just don't see him as a Grundy type ruck who handles 95 % of the ruck I reckon maybe 75 is his limit. Yes sdk could do the other qtr but I feel like it's hard to play key back and ruck together I wonder if we will ever consider sdk possibly as a forward/and ruck but that might be too big a change up.

Why not?
He's a terrific athlete and the limited exposure we saw from him at AFL level, was very promising.
He's only 21 and the club put him in cotton wool early this season.

I think Toby is going to surprise a few. Really has all the hallmarks of a premier ruckman.

Agree with all said My Tilly:...... only serious injury will stop Toby Conway from being in the top three ruckmen in the AFL within 2 to 3 years time, have being saying this from the get go, as he's a deadset 'clone' of former Geelong captain and top 3 ruckman in Damian Burke.

That is an unusual post you have quoted me in the JP thread talking about JP ..and also quoted Tilly talking about TobyC …

This was all said about Dawson Simpson. Now for what it's worth I think Toby has a higher ceiling than Dawson did but it's irrelevant unless his body holds together. With all the lower leg injuries I'd expect his endurance takes a fair time to build.

Tbh, I think Edwards has more talent than Conway. Conway came on a lot this year, but Edwards three games in the VFL were very promising. I also think Edwards can probably rest up forward too.

Conway easily for me.
Edwards is the very epitome of a project ruckman.

Conway just gotta healthy and he's going to be an elite player.
