Think this was a beat hit in the culture war a year and a half ago. No-one took it overly seriously at the time.

I think it's worth considering how you're using a gif of a person of colour. If you're using it as caricature or the gif perpetuates a steriotype, it's probably a bit shit. But one would think digital blackface needs more to establish it, more history behind it, before one can categorically state that it's occurring.

Does use of a gif featuring a black person constitute enough appropriation to equal blackface? I don't know, but I wouldn't have thought so; there isn't the history of minstrelsy behind online use of gifs there is around blackface.

I'd be interested to read someone trying to codify why and how it's bad, rather than a journalist doing a patchjob of the argument.

The argument that woke has lost its meaning because no campaigner can define it in the first place and it gets overused seems pretty solid to me.

What does it mean?

I’ve heard a woman I know say they’d take their daughter to the abortion clinic if their grandchild came out black.

Context is that said woman thought her daughter was hanging out with bad African boys but it turns out she was wrong in her racist assumption (she met her boyfriend).

But is it woke to call out ignorant racist crap like that? It’s more effective to question things than ridicule people for saying shit things like that, I suppose, but I suspect “woke” is a way to try and shame anti racist speech.

It can definitely go over the top and be unproductive. As for authoritarian tactics against speech, if that’s what woke means then the conservatives have plenty of woke people in their ranks then.

In any case it’s always good to try and assume people mean well whether you agree with them or not. I do not make such assumptions about political commentators though; most of them are just trying to divide and grift.

Generally tighter fitting clothes than similar clothing for men. I seldom, if ever, have mistaken a woman in jeans and a top/blouse for a man. Biological women and men have significantly different body types and shapes and it's not difficult (at least for me) to ascertain what sex they are based on how their clothes fit them.





Society in general, any obviously male creep who goes inside a women's toilet would quicly be noticed. Biological women inside would immediately leave and other women would avoid entering the bathroom upon realising what's going on. If the creep doesn't leave voluntarily men in the vicinity would make sure he doesn't try anything and escort him out by force if necessary.



It would have to be a hell of a performance for a predator who isn't genuinely trans.




If this become socially acceptable/normalized a predator (that isn't obviously trans) can bide their time and wait inside the bathroom for when a child or woman is by herself.

If someone wants to rape someone in a toilet they will rape them. If someone tries to rape someone they are using violent force to impose themselves. It is based off the assumption that this man is stronger than the woman. It's much easier to invite a woman home, lock the doors, et cetera.

Anyway I went in, used a cubicle and washed hands. No females batted an eyelid. Anyway leaving the rooms I saw to the side male restrooms which wasn’t so obviously signed on the way in.. then I realised what it was about
