Hi guys, its my first time on here and must say the umpires situation is not good for the western region. This stems from the top, Batty and Co need to have a hard look at themselves. If anything they are bringing the game into disrepute.. by not listening to the umpires demands. If this Terry Gunn is the issue and by the sounds of it, he is the only issue then why was he appointed. I see CRONIESM. Its time the clubs put an end to this and asked these clowns to get LOST !!!
Without the clubs these gooses will not have a league to administer.
Listen Listen Listen is the key to good communication and this appears to be lacking with our hierarchy....

If the Division 1 games are off will the reserves in D1 also be off?

Does anyone know a website which will give us more information? WRFL website doesn't have anything

BigFooty is probably the best site for updated information... the key is working out what is fact and what has been made up..... Good luck

The wrfl web site is shit and has been for quite a while now, since Penna left the whole league management has become very ordinary.

I think the website itself has improved a fair bit. The issue is the lack of information on important issues that the league is willing to put on there.

I would have thought that some sort of statement from the so called leaders at HQ could be communicated on the league website. Unfortunatley this would be considered a "pro active move" which is something that does not happen at HQ.

The lack of comment by HQ to the League Stakeholders (Clubs) since this mess broke into the public domain yesterday ( SEN, Big Footy etc etc) is most damming and a further reason to sort the Umpires out first then sort out accountability at HQ for the right royal mess we are in !!!

im not sure if this subject has been brought up on here before, but has anyone heard or knows why the divvy 2 fixture is only running for 17 rounds, surely you would move earth wind and fire to ensure that each side plays each other twice??
Pretty simple mate the league makes div1 18rds and div2 17rds so the comps finish a week apart and can make more money with crowd number7 at finals

yeah thats what i think too, but surely common sense should of come to the fore and allowed for an 18 round fixture, but when it comes to $$$ the willi road crowd take no prisoners

just noticed they put the umpire selection ons the net

Extract from WRFL Memo this afternoon: enjoy your footy free weekend !!

Please be advised that the WRFL Umpires Association has resolved to withdraw their services from WRFL games and will not be making themselves available for official WRFL umpiring appointments.

This action is inconsistent with the resolutions that were made by the WRFL Clubs at the Committee of Management Meeting on 25 June 2009. Specifically, that football should be played in Season 2009 and that an Umpires Forum deal with all umpiring matters for the remainder of the Season 2009 (resolution attached).

The WRFL Executive calls upon all Member Clubs to ensure that football is played.

Given the shortage of umpires that has resulted from this action of the Umpires Association, there are not enough umpires available for Senior and Reserve Games this weekend. Unfortunately, this will be mean that Division 1 Senior and Reserves and Division 2 Senior and Reserves games will not be played this weekend.

All Under 18 games and all Junior games will be played and will be adjudicated by Club Umpires. Would all Clubs please ensure that the names of the Club Umpires are clearly marked on each official team sheet.

As much as i agree whole heartedly about this subject we have to take into account probably the biggest issue here and the reason that this cant be resolved...

Terry gunn is under an employment contract with the WRFL so they cant just "sack" him. if they did they would open themselves up to litigation which guess where the bill would end up going to.... OUR CLUBS.

think about it in your own jobs. If a group of employees or contractors walked in and said that they want you gone just because "they dont like you" your employer wouldnt have a leg to stand on to terminate your contract.. this is the problem that the WRFL have.. and ofcourse the umpires dont really care about this issue and just want the result.

To remove terry gunn they would have to find a new department for him... (and i dont know what else he is good at) make him redundant or sack him. all bar the first one the clubs will end up footing the bill for the package or if in a new department there would be somone else appointed that we would have to pay for...

sh*t form by everyone involved that this couldnt be resolved before the start of the season and we have to compromise a round becuase of this issue. Clubs like yarraville & laverton that are fighting for the one finals spot now have less time to place themselves in the top 5 and the rest of the leauge well we just dont get to run out on the ground and do what we love on a perfect winter weekend!

ever thought of moving the games to sunday, and canvassing the other umpire bodies to 'loan' some of theirs?

Personally, i run in the SFL div 1 seniors, i would be happy to help out on a sunday, and im sure a few others would too

That would be too much work and brain power for the muppets running the WRFL

surely they could do a terry wallace - if a coach is not coaching well for three years, causing conflict within the team (umpires), ;lost his teams confidence and ontop of that causing issues for the wider league, surely they could pay him out and ask him to leave - or get him filing papers. paying out his contract for the last 6-10 weeks is no big issues as they will pay it if he stays. there might be a cost for the replacement coach for the next few weeks but it woould not be signficiant and i am sure that there is someone in the umpiring fraternity who would volunteer until a suitable replacement is found. so cost isnt an issue

i cant believe that one person is so big headed that he wont stand down even though his entire umpiring department doesnt want him there as well as a league of players and clubs wanting him gone so they can play footy.

as for the gutless league - they hide behind their law degrees but dont even have the balls to let clubs discuss what happens at their committee of management meetings cause they threaten them with 1500 dollar fines!!! yet in someone memo above said to refer to the attach documents

have some balls and make the minutes of the meetings available on the WRFL website and we will quickly find out who is at fault and refusing to budge.

question? does this round allow players to qualify for finals(must play six ) ornot if so do teams submit team sheets? a player may now only play 5 more games after this debarcle and would miss finals if only played in five

Good question... was gonna ask the same thing... there's a lot of questions that will need answering... especially financial ones....

It's all round dissapointing... what do most clubs plan on doing with their day off... any intraclubs or just a day off... it's only been a couple of weeks since the official break...

what about my club who has a premiership reunion and everything that goes with it........also playing the bottom side when we need % to make top 3.........

the clubs should boycot the rest of the year........that will make the people at the head of the wrfl look really good........

what a joke.......

The WRFL Website says that

They hope that the WRFL umpires and WRFL member clubs can come to a resolution before the next Committee of management meeting on July 7th.

Does this mean that they consider the issue between the clubs and they umpires??? if it was it would be sorted by now!!!!!!!!! It is the League!!! yet this staement indicates that they arent contributing to negotiations.

What a pack of useless tossers!!!!!!

They should be doing everything they can to get a resolution before next week.

WAKE UP BATTY AND CO. WAKE UP WRFL EXECUTIVE!!

Dido boys, the clubs should request BATTY and CO. to stand aside useless bunch of Tossers.. That is putting it nicely !!!!! Looks like i will have to do my Gardening now

this is an absolute disgrace, i have spent the last few hours clarifying what i was told and i had to get it double checked just to be sure it was true as i was astounded at the ignorance and arrogance of it...terry gunn approached a very highly regaurded umpire early in the week (after the vote of no confidance) the vote was basically 4 to 1 against terry gunn. he asked this umpire (who he worked closely with in his time at wrfl) what his opinion was on what the other umps think and what he would suggest to do....the unnamed person said that with about 70 to 80% of umps not wanting u here for the sake of the ump department and the league u should prob step aside...at least until this can be sorted properly and he stressed to terry that this was his opinion as well.
terry response was that these guys dont dictate my life so i will do what i want i and i will stay and never leave. i dont care if there is no footy on sat that makes my job easy not to appoint umpires.....he finished with 'i dont have to answer to anyone in this shitty place"

the unnamed man had a go at terry and walked out in disgust and told me personally he will prob never umpire again that it is not wqorth the hassell any more.

I AM TELLING U GUYS THAT THIS WILL GO LONGER THAN JUST THIS WEEK

this is how stupid the wrfl are.....instead of trying overcome this issue and inform clubs on whats going on and how we can all get together to try to come to some ressolution they are apparently considering approaching every umpire individually and asking them to be paid directly by wrfl if they will umpire and this will take away the umps ass and their power of members to deliberate and strike (OHS Act 2004).

if the wrfl do this then they are in affect breaking their duties as employer legislation and leave themselves wide open to litigation....and as a not for profit organisation this would mean that liquidation would be needed.

i am advising the league to not go ahead with this as the umps are already on to it and it could mean the end of our great wrfl in the short future (this season)

lets put our criticsm together and form a solution and not keep adding to the problems.... surely there are enough people within the clubs to put forth a proper idea or solution for the wrfl....and as they said on their own website....the members (clubs) obviously have the final say in this so lets have our say

i have some more very handy infpormation that i will reveal as soon as i can get it double checked as being fact as i do not want to have led people on the wrong path with any of this...

evo is always right.......

what a joke, i wonder if the wrfl will be quick to ask for the fees from clubs now.. evo i dont know how the wrfl works, but cant all clubs bar the wrfl and just run our own league? or does everything have to go through the wrfl?

evo i agree with you. the WRFL thinks they are above the clubs and the umpires. at te end of the day they work for us - the playetrs coaches and clubs. this is a disagrace and the league should be doing more about it. i know many clubs think the umpires are at fault but imagine your club was told who could and couldnt coach and said you couldnt sack you coach. or if a club coach had three years to prove himself and couldnt then surelt the club would sack him

evo - of you entire playing list voted three time saying they lost faith in you - would you stand down?? pretty arrogant person who wouldnt?????

and the WRFL is ythe biggest bunch of soft coks for not doing something. fancy saying that they are leaving it to the umpires assoc and the clubs.

and threatening fines for clubs speaking out about last thurs committee of mangaement meeting goes back to hitler times - sirely clubs can discuss what happenedd?????
