Great post evo, i agree whole heartedly.
We all are going to have free kicks go against us and umps like players make mistakes.
However when umpire just pull free kicks out of their arse and umpire inconsistently it does nothing but ruin the game cause angst amongst players, leading to frustration and even sometimes leading to fights.
I believe some ups also are not up to the rules, and love giving away 50m penalties and contoversial free kicks to bring some spot light on themselves.
To me the umps are an important part of the game and a very thankless task but i can guarantee if it is umpired fairly and most importantly consistent the players would appreciate aloit more and the relationship between the umps and clubs would go to another level.
This is not an umpire bash just after the improvement that is required.

I agree with you Rock. We do really need the umpires, we need them knowing the rules and having the fitness to run out a game and not pull free kicks just to slow the game down so they can catch up. There are some very good umpires in the WRFL and then there are some worse than ordinary.

Yesterday at our game at home against Nth Sunshine we witnessed some of the worst umpriring I have ever seen in 30 plus years of FDFL / WRFL football. This made the crowd for both teams extremely agitated and inturn saw the umpires pay free kicks due to comments from over the fence. This is not good in local football and the umpires should not be subjected to abuse on or off the field. I am sure that these incidents would not happen if the umpire in question knew what he was doing and could keep up with the play. I along with Evo will also be putting my points across to the umpiring department and WRFL this week.

If Jeff Kennett was our President he would be fined a million dollars this week.:)

Was the umpiring any better at any of the other matches? Would like to hear everyones thoughts.

albanvale had a good win, on the umpiring they wernt the best both ways.. hendo had his head riped off and the the ump paid holding the ball, when i asked for an explenation the ump said it was a high tackle but hendo should have handballed it instead of taking the player on lol i just found it funny had to share it with the bigfoty world lol

Karim, maybe the umpire should take up coaching. :)

Don't forget to tell your boys to come in for a beer next week after the game.:thumbsu:

I will speak to our Pres and see if we can run a raffle for your player that was seriously injured last week.

we do need the umpires and we also need a new influx of them so we can get guys like snowy to train the younger guys into being able to control a game and keeping it free flowing and not pay rash decisions..

i dont think we ask for much from the umpires we just want CONSISTANCY. in the decisions and the interpritation of the rules/decisions they pay.

yesterday there was a free kick given becuase a north foots. player tackled a vales player and pinned his arms.. the free kick was given to w/vale for "pinning the arms" - dont know about anyone else but that is how i was tought to tackle!

on another note the vales have a good bunch of young kids that evo is working well with :thumbsu: looks like there is a lot of support around the club and people lending a hand.. keep up the good work!

I dont know if anyone remembers my earlier posts about the league wanting to break the umpires association and enforcing themselves on the umpires assocation. The association has voted several times on their lackof faith and support of Terry Gunn. The league has continually ignored them and supported him. The umpires want a new coach, pne who will proivide skills coaching and positioning coaching so that they can provide better umpiring performances. The WRFL board is just becoming aware of the situation. If a club coach privided no improvements for 3 years he would be gone. The push for skilled, eefrective coaches for the umpires is losing strength as they are still being ignored.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO SEND A LETTER REGRADING UMPIRING TO THE LEAGUE IT WILL FALL ON DEAF EARS AS THEY ARE THE ONES SUPORTING TERRY GUNN - SEND IT TO THE WRFL EXECUTIVE AS WELL SO THAT THEY CAN TRY AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!!

When the reserves club umpires are BETTER than the appointed ones then somehting needs to be done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coach the kids and build a future group of good umpires.

I understand the man in charge is in the job primarily as a favour to someone in the AFL, he has a close relationship with a mate in town who has/is looking after him. If true, you will be stuck with him for a while yet, as he has aspirations to further his career but as we all know is not up too it, so he will remain in this current position for a while yet.

I doubt that this is the sole reason for the poor attitude and skill level of some of the umpires but every time the standard of umpires come up, he is listed as the reason. Surely common sense should prevail and an inquiry into the Umpiring fraternity should be held. For footys sake at this level it is the least the league and clubs should do.

interesting thought about umpiring..........prolly 90% of current players (or recent players) that are fathers would most likely push their sons to some extent towards playing rather than umpiring, which would leave very little in the way of fresh blood coming into the footy community to umpire.

my questions - how many current players would consider umpiring at the end of ther careers?? In my opinion the better umpires are guys that have played to some degree......but i just don't think many would consider it.

Went down to watch Deer Park V Yarra,
Very high scoring entertaining game both from teams, yarra looked dismal in the first half and were looking down the barrel at half time but to their credit came out after half time and had 27 shots on goal to deer parks 10 which really tells the story absolutly ran them off there legs with deer park coming to a stand still in the last. Deer park absolutly butchered the footy they managed to get enough of it but were made to pay for their turnovers in the second half with yarra really looking pretty clean and a decent a pretty efficient unit for the last half. Best players for yarra were number 5 kicked 7 or 8 in an impressive performance number 29 got a bit of it and played well also 47 i think played really well didnt play week befor. For deer park was a one man show in the middle with number 25 only one using the footy, number 36 and 28 again looked very handy up forward kicking a few between them.

Cheers Big Test Icicles, glad to hear i (47) am getting named as a possible best. but i have to say to all clubs deer parks foward line (especially 28 and 36) very strong players and not to be taken lightly at all. Good to see that we could prove to ourselves that we are a fighting side to come back back from 42 points down. Looking forward to hopefully backing our win up with another one this week

Yeah mate well played, totally agree you guys have had a tough start and will only improve from hear on in yeah deer parks two forwards are very good players i think you guys in the middle just used it alot better than them.

yeah i will i have spent today gathering advice from people on the best way to approach it and even had a quik chat to a solicitor to make sure i wasnt breaking any rules or risking the club or me suspensioon or fines or loss of points (even tho we dont have any yet lol) by doing what i will be doing.

what i will ask of my fellow big footy readers is if u all could pm me with ur club senoir coachs phone numbers (they will be keept confidential) as so i can get in touch with them all to inform them on where i stand, both div2 and div 1 required....(this has to be done thru a sub rule within the league).

the league and terry gunn need to be held accountable for his and its umpires decisions and actions.

i was there too.....big testies........

5,47 and young no 1 were best for mine........also the big ruckmen to go at it all day was a good effort.......cain i must admit you need to work on your kicking you kick around corners(accross your body) all the time when kicking for goal........and i wanna see your stats as the first 3 1/4 didnt really get a sniff but i will also will admit that when the game was there to be won you lifted and had prob 10+ possies in the last.......
now i recon i know the game of footy pretty well missed the first 5 or 10 min of the game.......now watching d/p second 1/4 was very good as yarra challenged early and d/p finished the 1/4 with 9 goals to 3 or 4 and still i didnt think the game was in the bag at 42 points.......at 3 1/4 time 5 goals up with d/p kicking to the'' scoring end'' 1 thing i notice alot is body language........i believe in footy this is a massive thing and 1 thing i try coach kids.....hands on hips not reacting first and also being hunched over oposition teams can really notice bad body language and d/p after half time their body language was terrible.........now the 1st 10 mins of the last i think deer park didnt get the pill near the fwd 50 and yarra had i recon 6 or 7 shots on goal........i will say this the guys kicking out for d/p kept doing the same thing kicking it long out of the 50 but if it dont hit the target which usually it didnt as it was just a bomb and easy for yarra to get the numbers around our big bloke and take the ball away time and time again....pressure builds, shots on goal started to happen and that was were the game was lost....something needs to be done about this at d/p...i was standing with a mate he was telling me game was over but i knew it wasnt due to when the pressure was on d/p looked tired....both teams played a good brand of footy when they were on top but some sh1t when they wernt...a quality game though i think both teams would get alot out of this game.....as they say footy is a funny game........

bad body language is bad football in my opinion.....

thats my take......

Districts played ok against Parkside and a couple of easy missed shots early hurt but overall no excuses Parkside just to good ...

Sir (2) and Krueger(?) went alright but i thought they were pretty even spread played good team footy ...

Irons(18) and Galofaro(14) best for me for districts !!! Will also like to say bad luck to Hammo for districts who looks like has broken his ankle was playing ok footy and kicking a few so thats a bad loss ....

Anyone know how paddy davis is ?? went off in the first with a groin i think ?? and never came back on looked nasty quite the limp ...

Agree Hells, enjoyed an excellent close game with Coburg. CD were the hardest team we have played thus far (at the ball and tackling the player). The final score line wasn’t reflective of the close game. Other than 15min patch in the first quarter, the game was goal for goal. We (Parkside) felt CD could have come back at any stage and the game was in the balance all day. CD played two talls very well swapping between ruck and CHF. Wes is a mobile big bloke and will be very hard for most CHB’s too match up on. Very surprised to see you sitting 0 – 4. As we all expected it’s a much closer competition this season with only Nth Sunshine a game to pencil in as a win.

Best wishes to Hammo. No player likes to hear of a bad injury especially now that it’s the second week in a row for the WRFL. Patty’s injury was a groin but not sure how bad so don’t know if he’ll be out next week. He had a great first 20mins kicking 3 goals.

Yeah mate a massive win for Yarra keeps our top 4 aims on track. I put my balls on the line saying we whould beat Deer Park and we did. We played pacthy football again but we where hit by injuries early so it was a massive win in the end.

Deer Park are alot better than i thought they would be and they where very good in the first half and they have some good players. Like most teams in Div 2 there back line is a glarring weakness.

If you did not notice on Saturday first quater i did my calf in the 10 minute mark and could not run and was restricted to full forward. I am likely to miss 1 week. With out your legs you cant do much on the footy field but i did my best considering. I did kick 4.3 and mucked a couple up which i should of kicked instead of passing. before anyone jumps on my back i saw the paper that says 2 goals i will speak to who ever is doing that so they get it right. Thats two weeks they have stuffed that up.

I was ultra impressed with our last quater 6 goals 12 (two rushed behinds). We should of kicked 14 goals in the last quater and if we can play consistent football over 4 quaters we will challange all teams.

I am still belive we will be 6 and 2 come round 8 and full of confidence and look forward to Nth Footscray.

Note Deer Park i think run out of legs and there fitness is an issue. Alot of there midfielders and players where a little unfit looking and that i had the feeling in the 3rd quater that we could run over the top of them.

On the umpireing it has gone backwards and its a hard job and i respect the umpires as its a hard job no doubt. At the end of the day there are two teams and two umpires so we should just deal with it, get in first for the football and you should come out on the better end of the free kick count.

Thanks Deer Park for a great game, played in good spirits and where gracious in defeat. I retract my comments about Deer Park they will be fighting for a finals spot this year and good luck.:thumbsu:

Massive win Cain, well done.

I went down and had a look at Braybrook and Albanvale. Albanvale completely out played them all over the ground and probably stopped at three quarter time. Noticed there big ruckman sitting on the pine resting during last quarter as game was over.

I must admit i thought it would have beeen alot closer than 92 points, Albanvale looked good but couldnt see Braybrrok making the 5 based on that performance

as i said i missed the 1st 5/10 min and i did notice you not looking the best(injured) and not having much of a run on the ball.........the pussycat dolls on the ipod at 3 1/4 time sure did its job.......

anyway cant wait to play on yarra........''the home of wrfl football''

Deer Park still top 3 Weapons

tough run comming up.........i believe its still achievable.......kicking 18 goals normally wins you the game not last sat though.......with the 5 teams comming up yarra included we need to win 2 or 3........got 3 or 4 to still come in 3 defenders in that lot so i think its acheivable........or were you saying are we in the top 3 now.......lol.......=nope

on another note the vales have a good bunch of young kids that evo is working well with :thumbsu: looks like there is a lot of support around the club and people lending a hand.. keep up the good work!

who are some of the young kids coming along?
