This is a post modern nightmare

we need to test everyone suffering from political correctness and quarantine them indefinitely
Before we regress back to the Middle Ages

for those of us still sane -yell abuse shun the infected - enough is enough
How does that interview you posted warrant a dislike? Seems like hope IMO. Perhpas not enough clear english to prevent idiots from drinking fish tank cleaner. However, enough anecdotal evidence to suggest a viable treatment.

One thing that is not really being talked about among our politicians is what flags when it is safe for the community to resume normal daily activity.

Even if the curve becomes flattened, there will be risk of outbreaks again, so how is it decided when the risk is low enough to stop shutdowns and social distancing practices?

Does anyone really know.

Pick the humane, compassionate country:

I don't think we read the same article :drunk:
There's nothing in there about political correctness.
It's about how experts are not valued by political leaders. Er derr. No kidding.
Donald Trump is the extreme version of this. He never goes to experts for advice - he is a self declared stable genius.

Either by today or tomorrow (and with no current flattening of the curve) will be recording 3,000 deaths per day worldwide.

The flu kills between 800 to 1,800 people per day worldwide and that's without the lockdown. So those numbers should drop as isolation happens and this year Covid-19 substitutes itself to be the cause of death.

If this is just a flu... I hate to see what a real pandemic would do.

Smallpox pandemic.

Any company here in Oz that can tweak their manufacturing to make face shields for health staff? Cricket helmet makers?

You are in it too - or you would not be here chump

I have to be according to your view of the world.

The thing is............it's only your view.

Enjoy your cage. :thumbsu:

Couldn't agree more. Given our time again, the government should have immediately closed the borders - no flights in or out and targeted quarantine and visiting restrictions for the elderly and those most at risk. The economy and life would be running internally at full steam.

That is for the future. Right now we need to realise this is not the apocalypse - it has been an over-reaction - announce a two week deadline for this shut down to end. Followed by targeted quarantines only.

More importantly, what needs to happen is a detailed plan for this to be never ever repeated, inclusive of clear protocols, mass testing procedures, mass production of respiratory aides....
If the rate of new infections and severe infections has fallen in 2 weeks I think it would Be reasonable to relax some of the restrictions

Not. Quite. Yet. Mate.

The latency period needs to be taken in to account.

How about conservative govts stop slashing health funding.

Perhaps your right and perhaps there should be more funding. However Labor's assessment in ~2010 that there was $19b of waste in health.

"More good money after bad" or do we start to address inefficiencies and waste first?

There are a lot of learnings from what we are witnessing

1) Chinese Govt don't care for Chinese or human life

How can we rationalise that the chinese govt can build a hospital in 8 days but can't provide simple health standards in food preparation?

This suggests to me, Chinese use slave and or desperate labour, who are worked to the bone to achieve the govts and or the wealthy's needs. In return they get F all and simply so desperate to get basics in life such as protein, they resort to anything they can.

Solution: Change Government in China

2) China is too big for the Chinese Govt to manage

China needs and wants to be big....number 1! So they can deal with their insecurities, that all developing nations experience. Just look at how nationalistic Scotland, India and the US are........are they are all pretty embarrassing nations yet so proud. China is no different.

Solution: China to break up into separate entities and the US should to.

3) Australian Health system and unions are corrupt

They have banged on, we need to flatten the curve because the health system can't cope. Bullshit!

The health system never copes evidenced by waiting lists for even heart attacks. Waiting times just to see a GP and 6 weeks or more for a specialist. The health system is their for us, not the other way around.

Solution: Outlaw the medical unions restricting the supply of trained labour and break the quota system
So with point 3 exactly who are you going to get to train these doctors? How will they get appropriate clinical exposure
Not to mention that some people access health care with issues that are not soluble by health care - eg suicidality due To poverty/ Social disconnection

1 And how much are we to blame? That slave labour makes everything cheap.
2 Good idea. Can't see it happening thou.
3. You can't outlaw people gathering and representing themselves. I know some shit is highly dodgy so that's why there are laws. Your proposal is to solve one crime with tyranny. Rest of your healthcare points were solid.
Also would add healthcare is ******* expensive. Especially ICU. Dialysis, respirators, oxygen equipment doesn't come cheap. Be careful putting"all"your trust in medicine as it may not always help. You need to do what is right by you including health.

1) yep and this highlights the need for union representation in China (and globally) and to bring about IR reform and frameworks
2) Your right, I can't see it happening without major bloodshed from an external or civil war
1a) and 2a) This is what the UN should be focused on achieving
3) Of course you can make association illegal (labour achieved this with pilots, P&D, BLF and bikies (not sure if lib or lab did the last)). That said it would be easy to reform the medical industry if the electorate cared.

COVID 19 likely to make this list only in a general way.
Which leads to the question, why don't we throw these sort of resources at suicide?
We do put resources in but it is questionable whether there is benefit (eg hospitalisation Not clearly of benefit and risk assessment not reliable)

the same process and training facilities as today.

the only change would be the removal of a quota system and the change to free market would occur over time by raising the quota each year until it can be removed.

I love suicide is now the cudgel with which to make political arguments. I didn’t have sympathy for my mate in high school when his obese girlfriend threatened to neck herself every time he tried to dump her, and I don’t have sympathy now.
That’s called goal based suicidality; it is the tool of manipulation and is best ignored. No medical or psychological intervention will reduce their risk of completion of suicide due to impulsive or angry act.

Current system is designed around the number of interns (generally seen as at best zero productivity due to need for education) that the public hospitals can manage.
