Olinda will win 2nd Divvy without losing game unless they do a Geelong in the GF, but there's no chance of that, they're just too good for Divvy 2! And Upwey will easily win 1st divvy GF for first time in 10 years which will make all at Tigerland very happy after losing the last 5 GF's they've played in, don't look at the Worri game the Tigers had 6 of their best 10 out and don't rate Worri anyway, and Ports has got them as good if not better then Silvan of 07 & 08! So thats another flag locked away for Upwey!

Football Wrap 4th July
1st Division

Healesville 7.7.49 defeated Warburton Millgrove 6.11.47. There was nothing in this game all day. Even though this wasn’t one of the most skilled games, the pressure and the closeness of the contest made it enthralling for the appreciative crowd. Healesville ended up being just that little better in front of the big sticks as Warby squandered their opportunities, Warby will think themselves extremely unlucky not to have won this one. Healesville’s best: Daniel Plozza, James Dunnett and Luke Barclay. Warburton’s best: Brenton Morris, Michael Walker and Terry Walker.

Gembrook Cockatoo 19.11.125 defeated Silvan 14.6.90. Gembrook’s dominance of the 2nd quarter was the reason for their victory, Steven Gough was terrific down forward finishing with 5 goals for the winners. After an even 1st term Gembrook booted 5.5 to 1.1 to take a 25 lead into half time. The second half was very even with Gembrook extending their lead by just the 10 points to finish the day with a great 35 point victory. Gembrook’s best: Shane Williams, Steven Gough and Eamon Tomlin. Silvan’s best: Dean Carswell, David Bissels and Justin Cuzzupi.

Upwey Tecoma 14.12.96 defeated Monbulk 10.6.66. Upwey lost their first game of the year last week to Woori Yallock and were looking to bounce back against the might of Monbulk. Upwey did look the better side for most of the day but it took Upwey until early in the final quarter to shake them off. Upwey showed their class in the final term as they got their running game going to finish the game with a 6 goal final quarter, Monbulk certainly weren’t disgraced as they booted 4 goals themselves. Upwey’s best: Lucas Matthews, Joshua Kamoen and Steven Brotja. Monbulk’s best: Christopher Waldron, Jason Fraser and Shannon Koole.

Woori Yallock 13.18.96 defeated Wandin 6.10.46. At quarter time of this game it looked like Woori was in for a huge win. Woori held a 26 point lead and looked dangerous. Wandin to their credit took it right up to their opponents for the rest of the game. Woori was always in control and did increase their lead thanks to a 4 goal to 1 third quarter. Wandin played with great spirit and made sure that Woori knew that they had played one hell of a hard game of football. Woori Yallock’s best: Michael King, Danny Hyndman and Tom Van Heen. Wandin’s best: Cameron Taylor, Zachary King and Simon Young.

Mount Evelyn showed no mercy on Alexandra as they ran away with a huge win. Final Scores: Mount Evelyn 24.18.162 defeated Alexandra 0.3.3. The Mounters were unstoppable, they booted 10 goals to just 1 behind in the 1st quarter and they didn’t look back after that. The only real interest in the game was to see if Alexandra could kick a goal. Unfortunately Alex didn’t even register a score in the final term as Mount Evelyn booted another six. Mount Evelyn only had 8 goal kickers but 7 of those players kicked 2 goals or more, Chris Haworth and Kane Jones were the best of them kicking 5 each. Mount Evelyn’s best: Jarrod Bardon, Chris Haworth and Benjamin Farrugia. Alexandra’s best: Chris Mullins, Luke Heard and Tyson Biffon.

2nd Division

Olinda Ferny Creek 15.24.114 defeated Powelltown 4.8.32. Although Olinda won this game easily they would have been disappointed at their conversion rate. Olinda booted 5.11 in the first quarter which set the tone for the day. Powelltown did battle hard and did manage to match Olinda in the 2nd quarter with 3 goals a piece. Olinda was certainly nowhere near their best and won’t be overly happy with their performance. Olinda’s best: Scott Tregoning, Patrick Rosier and Shaun Grogan. Powelltown’s best: Russell Cowan, Barry McDonald and Lindon Walker.

Belgrave was no match for Seville as Seville won comfortably. Final Scores: Seville 16.16.112 defeated Belgrave 6.4.40. A very even performance by Seville from start to finish. Seville saved their best football for the final quarter as they finished the game in style kicking 5 goals to 1. They will now be doing their homework on how to beat Olinda, they will believe they are capable at their best. Seville’s best: Kieran Mullett, Christopher Harrison and Aaron Abbruzzese. Belgrave’s best: David Bilston, Jacob Meyer and Ben Fitzgerald.

Emerald 16.11.107 defeated Yarra Glen 9.12.66. This game was in the balance right up to 3 quarter time with Emerald holding a 10 point lead. Yarra Glen has made a habit of going missing late in games which has cost them victories, this game was to be no different. Emerald got right on top of Yarra Glen in the final term as they ran their opponents off their legs. Emerald was brilliant in the last booting 6.3 to Yarra Glen’s 1.2 for a great 41 point win. Emerald’s best: Daniel Porter, Steven Wright and Josh Huisintveld. Yarra Glen’s best: David Watt, Matthew Hocking and Stephen Roberts.

Kinglake 17.11.113 defeated Yarra Juction 7.8.50. A fantastic first half from the Lakers as they booted 5 goals to 1 in the 1st quarter, then another 5 goals to 2 in the 2nd. Kinglake held a 41 point lead at the long change and was in complete control. The 2nd half was a little more even but Kinglake still increased their lead at every change to consolidate at the top end of the ladder. Kinglake’s best: James Walker, Luke Nott and Alexander Carpenter. Yarra Junction’s best: David Lever, Darcy Kiernan and Lachlan Ward.

Yea 14.7.91 defeated Thornton Eildon 10.10.70. Yet again Thornton got themselves into a winning position only to falter at the final hurdle. Thornton was only 3 points down at the last change and right in it. Yea was outstanding in the final quarter as they slammed on 6 goals. Yea’s Chris Graham (5 goals) and Patrick McKenna (4goals) was brilliant all day and ended up being the difference between the 2 sides. Yea’s best: Chris Graham, Patrick McKenna and Joshua Cunningham. Thornton’s best: Brandon Kapakoulakis, Steve Elliott and Shane Parker.

YVMDFL Netball Wrap July 4
By Erin Morrision

Alexandra had a fairly good game this week, they are slowly settling in to the competition of Division One. Whilst they did not win this week against Mount Evelyn, they tried hard, and did manage to score 24 goals, against Mount Evelyn’s 37. For Alexandra, Emma Kidd shot 15 goals, and Sue Haggis 9. For Mount Evelyn, Kate Youlton shot 21 goals; Sarah Hogan shot 9, Tamara Luke 5 and Katrina Toone 3 goals.

Warburton Millgrove had a good game this week, as they met Healesville at Yarra Junction. On such a wet and cold day, both teams were grateful for the reprieve an indoor court provided. Healesville tried hard, as they always do, however they could not keep up with Warburton this week. Adele Collard still proves to be a great asset for Warburton, this week shooting 34 goals. Peta Adams contributed 12 goals, and Melanie Hancock shot 6 goals. For Healesville, Louise Farrow shot 29 goals, Elizabeth Kay shot 2 goals, and Corrine Tesselaar shot 2 goals also.

Woori Yallock travelled to Wandin this week, to see how they match up. It was a close game, and both teams desperately wanted the win, however it was Wandin that walked away the winners, by a mere 3 goals. Woori put up a hard fight however just couldn’t take it to the end. Courtney Macdonald shot 20 goals, Sharmini Jane Philp shot 13 and Hayley Thompson shot 4 goals, to make up Wandin’s 37 goals. Kristie Booth shot 28 goals being the main scorer for Woori.

Upwey Tecoma had a great game this week, winning by a very impressive 32 goals over Monbulk. Using both skill and a home advantage, Emma Hedge was brilliant in the goal ring, sharing the ball and also maximising her opportunities. She shot 21 goals. Kiera Rawlings was also a good help, shooting 18 goals, and Michelle Tomlinson shot 9 goals. For Monbulk, Hayley Moffat shot 9 goals, Jamie Sands 7. Monbulk had minimal opportunities; however the girls tried their best.

DIVISION TWO
Thornton Eildon travelled to Yea this week, for a game they knew would be difficult in more ways than one. The Thornton team was short of players, and this only hindered them this week. However Louise Chapple is still proving excellent, shooting 12 goals, for Thornton. Their final score was 28. Yea worked well this week, taking advantage of Thornton’s position, and scored consistently. Cindy Hayes shot 20 goals, Tara Gregory shot 18 goals, and Rhiannon Aldous shot 16 goals.

Yarra Junction had a great win over Kinglake this week. The final score read 58-26, as Junction dominated their opposition for a good majority of the game. Rebecca Osiurak shot 35 goals, Geordgie Stanke 15 and Leirna Kasso shot 8 goals for Junction, whilst Claire McMahon shot 17 goals and Sally Nott 9.

Powelltown continue to dominate, with Olinda falling victim this week to their endless abilities. Held at Olinda, no rain snow or wind will deter Powelltown. The final score read Powelltown 67, Olinda 24. For Powelltown, Samantha Hansen shot 37 goals, and Stephanie Broadway 30 goals. This a huge effort from the girls, as they worked well together for the game. For Olinda, Lucy Allman shot 18 goals.

Yarra Glen copped a flogging from Emerald this week, as the score read 14-66. Emerald really pulled together as a team this week, and it showed as they dominated over Yarra Glen. For Emerald, Beverley White shot 42 goals, and Kim Walker shot 24 goals. For Yarra Glen, Julie Thompson shot 9 goals, and Tanya Moate shot 5 goals. The girls did their best with their opportunities; however the defence from Emerald made that very hard.

That maybe a problem, if a final is played there later in the year, you may have to stay home and play with your LEGGO,

Leggo, eh? Toys or tinned variety?
'Maybe' as a speculative adverb or 'may be' as qualified verbs meaning 'possibly come to pass'?
Now I'm lost!
(Melways 286 F12)

Back to the footy.
Rumor has it Healesville won't apply for finals which gives worrrrrrrrri a heads up.
Which is the best venue for the league, spectators and clubs?

Best place for finals -

Div 1

Silvan - good for high scoring action
Upwey - best bar in the league

Div 2

Thornton - any ground next door to a pubTAB gets my vote...

* Coming from the Spelling Nazi Mr Burnt Out - what this Leggo I'm playing with? A single jar of pasta sauce? Half a Real Estate Agency??

or could you have mis-spelt LEGO?????????

OOPS!!!

Got my vote! A nice easy stagger home:)
It is a great ground for watching , but it's so friggin small it's a different game.

I'd love to see junior footy on that ground. If they redo the Monbulk oval, maybe Silvan will let the juniors play there? ;)

They are resurfacing Monbulk, but heaven knows when.

  • Silvan is a great ground for kids. Perfect size for marbles!
  • Also, overheard Wade Porter at Woori saying that he would be happy to play Woori in a final at Woori. Mind you, that was said during the Reserves game. Don't know if that still holds. It gets my vote, too, I think.

  • Would still like to see Kilsyth on line at some stage - if just for the hell of doing it in the middle of the EFL!
  • Gembrook can be a good venue, but a risk now with the wind, fog or Antarctic breeze.
  • Yarra Glen still has the goals on the wings! (Do they still use 4WD's to mark the boundaries?)
  • Warby has atmosphere, but parking spaces are noarrower than the ground.
  • Healesville has the Dolly Parton syndrome - too big to be good for your health! The size would also disqualify the LFB from umpiring - unless it was in goals!
  • Pity about Alex being just short of New Guinea. Otherwise a near perfect venue.
  • Finally: any chance of a system that gives the best venues, but still gives all clubs a chance to participate in the staging?

Woori comfortably over every other venue in the Valley.

Great parking, great viewing, great rooms, great atmosphere, great ground surface and size, netballs on site, and pretty central to every side.

Personally, I think the league should invest some money into some permanent infrastructure for this venue and make it the number 1 ground for the Yarra Valley to cater for 1st division finals, Interleague etc.
Much in the same mould as the EFL has done for Bayswater.

Maybe clubs each year can take turns in running bar, canteen, raffles, gates, whatever needs to be arranged.

WHOOPS got me, what goes around comes around,i should have learnt, im enjoying the banter.
Dont think you ground selection is too good though.

Great day of cricket.... started off with that great English song Jerusalem before play started followed up with freddie flintoff thinking he is freddie mercury in the middle of the day and ended the days play with The Song Remains the Same.....Nice:D

Finals should be at Woori - good ground and facilities, good atmosphere and its the most central ground in our league.

I agree with Monnie Hawk about Alexandra - great ground just a pity its too far away! Also Yea is a similar situation - great ground but location is not central for the league.

Also like Warburton mainly for its atmosphere as the crowd is close to the action.

Woori easily the best, good parking, plenty of room,Netball on site,Great Burgers and Cold Beer. But I agree with Monnie Hawk Alex is also a great venue, pity we can't move it closer.

Good thoughts Tim! (Not on commission to Woori are you?)
Woori would certainly appreciate the development funds, but I would like to see Kilsyth moved along first. Lots to think about tho - agreements for lease & sharing with ERFC, usage for finals or 'loan' ground for YVMDFL clubs, etc.
Have long pushed for sharing finals via rotation of clubs through bar, catering, raffles, parking attendants, etc. as per GFL do with their finals. Problem is??.... precious clubs with viable finals venues want the lot: hence keenness to get Kilsyth going. Get over the self-interest hurdle and it's a goer!
Thanks for letting me know when my own club will have their ground ready!! Good luck with the Hilltop project. Wonderful foresight!
(PS. Love the defiance - rejecting U.S. spelling of "mould")

Bleary eyes!! Sat up to watch it and Poms bowled better than indicated. Looked dangerous all day, but Katich and Punter were too good. Need at least 600 by end of today for a chance at victory.
