Adelaide - McLeod (beats Rucciuto and Edwards)
Brisbane - Black (Brown injury)
Carlton - Fevola (Judd has only been at Carlton for 3 seasons)
Collingwood - Buckley
Essendon - Fletcher (more important than Hird or Lloyd imo)
Fremantle - Pavlich (beats Bell)
Geelong - Scarlett (beats Ablett and Ling)
Hawthorn - Crawford
Melbourne - Neitz (beats Yze)
North Melbourne - Harvey
Port Adelaide - Tredrea (beats Chadwick)
Richmond - Richardson (only real decent player apart from Deledio)
St. Kilda - Hayes (beats Harvey and Reiwoldt)
Sydney - Hall
West Coast - Cousins
Western Bulldogs - Johnson

Good list :thumbsu:

1. Macca
2. Ricciuto
3. Goodwin
4. Edwards

Don't think many Adelaide supporters would disagree with those 4.

Would have to disagree with you on that mate, West played for stats and didn't influence games much at all. If you took him out of the Doggies side they would still have been just as effective. Was easily replaced due to the fact his touches were usually meaningless little ones playing loose across half back while his direct opponent was most likely playing an attacking role for the opposition,. If his opponent had 15 touches they were more damaging than his 40. I never rated West I reckon he played for himself rather than the team.
Johnson was much more important for the Dogs. He played a year too long himself which was to his own detriment but up until 2008 he was a genuine star of the game.

That's a shameful way to describe Scotty West and his contribution to the Doggies - top performer, ludicrously consistent throughout his career, and was most certainly a team player. The reason he hasn't been obviously missed is because they had a particularly fine replacement lined up in Daniel Cross.

For us I'd go with Alan Didak, simply because he's been there for almost the whole decade and had an impact almost immediately. He's played in all 4 of our grand finals, won a premiership, a B&F and 2 All-Australians, he may even have a club leading goalkicker season, not sure.

  • Buckley was obviously a superstar, but his best years were probably from 96-03
  • Rocca was a key player at his peak, but had some shockers and lost ground from around 07 onwards
  • Clement was almost unbeatable in defense, but retired after 07
  • Swan, same as Buckley but at other end of the decade
  • Burns was a solid, hard player but probably lacked a little x-factor to be our best

Correct. This season he was.

Does the player have to have played the whole decade to be applicable?

I mean, Judd was easily the Eagles MVP for the decade, for a solid 5 years he played at a level unparalleled by any player past or present and delivered us a premiership.

Most important player?

McLeod for Crows.

Black by a country mile for Brisbane. Has been the cornerstone of the Brisbane Lions midfield for the entire decade.

Fevola is obvious for the Blues - Only one who comes close otherwise is Houlihan.

West Coast has got to be Cousins. Was great for 7 years and probably more consistent than Judd, even though it wasn't Juddy's fault.

Collingwood would be Presti or Fraser.

Rest are pretty obvious and I cbf

Hayes. I won't even listen to arguements otherwise. Harvey is the only one that compares. Riewoldt has been great this decade too.

While I believe Johnson was best player for dogs over decade that is such a poor reflection of West it either shows a) You are a teenager who only saw the last couple of years or b) Have a severe lack of understanding of the game.

If West didn't influence games than why did opposition teams always try to put heavy tags on him, the fact is his in an under work was some of the best going around and he made a lot of players look better than they were by spoon feeding them the ball all day.

his touches were usually meaningless little ones playing loose across half back

This really shows you never watched him.

The reason he was able to be replaced without to much harm as said by someone above was Cross and Boyd came through after him and they are both top players that play that same sort of role.

The only Collingwood player who spanned the decade with aplomb was Presti.

Otherwise Buckley in the first half and Swan in the second half with a credit to Clement in the middle.

Most important player?

McLeod for Crows.

Really? McLeod would probably get my vote for best player, but Roo would get mine for most important. Our backline has been so reliable this decade that Macca probably wasn't our most important player. Not so for our midfield, where Roo was King.

Agree with BACC's list, but best and most important are two different categories.

After 2003 Bucks was a shadow of his former consistently brilliant self, succumbing to injuries and reduced output.

Swan has caught Bucks.......should be 3 consecutive BnFs, AFL MVP award etc etc........Swan really is an all time Collingwood great.

Now that's saying something. Collingwood for one of the most successful teams have really lacked that absolute superstar spanning each decade. Most teams have been full of greats but Collingwood have rarely had that icon of a player. No disrespect to Collingwood. I reckon Bucks would have to shade Swanny just?

St.kilda's goes as follows

1. Nick Riewoldt - Without him we would not be a contender simply put out and out champion

2. Lenny Hayes - Superstar player

3. Robert Harvey - Enough Said

4. Fraser Gehrig

5. Stephen Milne

I would have to say for saints:
1. Lenny Hayes-busts his gut week in week out and really stands up on the big stage!
2. Nick Riewoldt-other people may not think of him highly but he has been an amazing goal-kick for us.
3. Harvey-he didn't play the whole decade but was heart and soul.
4. Stephen Milne- hated by the wider AFL community but loved by sainters (mostly). amazing goals and celebrations for pretty much the whole decade.
5. Max Hudghton- til last year when was edged out by Dawson WAS the backline. great fullback. prevented loads of losses.
