think this investment is too high risk and its clear he’s going for money which may not sit well.

At his best he’s worth the money but he’s had far too many injuries and it’s a bigger load in the midfield
Chris Judd went to Carlton ‘for the money’ that turned out pretty well.

Who cares what his intentions are, he’s an excellent player who makes our team better

Blues are in a similar spot to the Lions of 2018, good youth and recruitment in the previous couple of seasons means they're only 1 or 2 really good recruits from rocketing up.

We were 3rd in the AFL for clearances, and 4th in the AFL for I50's (behind Port, the Tigers and the Lions, and ahead of the Cats) yet we finished 2 spots outside the 8.

Those are some encouraging stats. We get the midfield/ forward connection right and we should hopefully be right up there next year.

More than happy with the defenders we have, but our forwards need to learn to lead through the loose defenders, and our mids need to learn how to kick (Cripps, Walsh, Curnow, Setters and Murphy are not great by foot).

We get some class (or speed) on the outside for our mids to get the ball to and we should be right.

I hope we go all in for a Taranto, Merrett or Kelly type (should any of the silly rumblings about those guys be true) to compliment Williams. Failing that, Viney might be an option.

A bit to play out yet, but I expect us to go all in this year with trading in players.

Wow that's a lot of money for a HBFer / occasional Mid with a history of injury problems

Good luck to the Blues but at that price ....... no thanks!!

Especially when they have a lot of high profile youngsters who will want big contracts in the coming years

You would want to hope u make finals next year either way I think Blues fans best be prepared to lose a few.

it’s not a concern. Far from it. Just an observation. About Zac Williams on the Zac Williams RFA thread. Where’s the sensitivity coming from?

I think you have concerns in your midfield. Dow, O’Brien and Stocker were high picks but haven’t shown much. I’d have thought a bona fide mid to help Cripps out is where you’d spend your cash.

I like Williams. He’s pretty handy off HB. Wouldn’t have thought that’s where you’d want to be targeting TBH. Who is coming in at 800-900k to be that B+ to A on baller that can give Cripps a chop out? Pretty strong list apart from the midfield. Is that really a surprise?

We're just fine. Thanks for asking.

I said it first next year flag favourites the blues. If don't make Top 8, I will revisit this thread with agenda.

Lol are you drugged?

200k difference per year. Giants had put up a 700k offer over 5 years.

Why are you so delicate about it.

Should be over the moon you got a talent and a good bloke like him.
Every single mention of the GWS offer has been 4 years not 5, go find me a link to an article stating 5 or have a nice day

Carlton supporters: haha we are getting him for far less than North Melbourne offered.

On finding out Carlton offerred more: it doesnt matter what you pay, you just gotta get the deal done.

Next thing you know a couple of mid level players leave as the cap starts to bite.

The system is a joke.

Dusty stayed with Richmond on a lower deal than North’s offer, some $200k a year less. Yet he made $300k+ signing memorabilia outside the cap.

Granted, Dusty made the absolute right decision in every way. Forget what he achieved onfield, he was always going to earn more at Richmond long term.

At bigger clubs star players have elite market and post career oppotunities that smaller clubs will have no chance at competing with.

So imo $200k-$300k a year difference in offers means nothing for stars at bigger clubs.

checks to see if in Brad Crouch thread. Nah play on.

So you believe all the articles saying 4 years but not those same articles saying Carlton contract offer is 850 to 900k per season?

Interesting logic

I think it would actually be really smart for Carlton to recruit Williams, take those Giant reigns off, and play him full-time in the middle. He'd instantly be their most complete all-round two-way mid.

My favourite part was when Carlton posters started saying "we sat him down and said if its money you're after and not success, then this isn't the club for you"

Blues fans out here acting like they're peak Richmond, Geelong or Hawthorn lol.

Please, the outside opportunities for players at Melbourne clubs is still better than the Northern clubs.

Maybe go to the draft and build that way instead of throwing everything at a saviour?

Yes, I'm sure the entire list management team forgot to factor this in when putting together their offer . Seriously, do you not think they plan and budget accordingly?

BigFooty, where reading a HS article makes you more qualified than full-time qualified, professional employees working with contracts and budgets all year round.

Imagine this convo in 2 years:

MLG: Nick, Cripps is out of contract and we have no cash, you gave it all to Zac Williams, did you not know Cripps would be out of contract this year? What kind of list manager are you?

Nick Austin: i forgot sorry bruz.

So just like Dan Hannebery right?

In any case, the list situation is orders of magnitude better than it was 5 years ago.

Agreed should have happened years back for North.

But you cant run out in 2021 with an under 8s girls B team.

Need to spend the cap.
