Departing Greater Western Sydney star Zac Williams is set to become a Carlton player, with his management notifying rival clubs of his decision.
Williams was weighing up two main offers from Carlton and North Melbourne, but has decided to join the Blues as a free agent on what's believed to be a five-year deal.

Sources familiar with the negotiations confirmed with The Age that Carlton's offer to Williams per season was worth significantly more than North Melbourne's.
Because Williams is a restricted free agent, the Giants can match Carlton's offer. But given the precarious nature of their salary cap, the club will let him leave and will receive a first-round draft pick as compensation.

Meantime, Marc Murphy, Levi Casboult and Ed Curnow will all play for the Blues next year, after the trio signed one-year contract extensions.

Marc Murphy has signed a one-year contract extension.
Lachie Plowman has signed a longer-term deal, committing for three more seasons, while fellow defender Caleb Marchbank – who has missed the entire season with injury – has also re-signed.
Marchbank has signed for another two seasons, while Nic Newman has recommitted for 2021 only.
The resigning of Murphy should make him part of Carlton's 300-club, with the former skipper currently sitting on 285 games.

Looks like we offered more than north according to Sam. Conflicting reports from the media. Regardless got our man.

If it's any consolation to North Melbourne fans, no one (rightfully) wanted to come to us after the Malthouse era and the first couple of painful season's under Bolton.

We were in a far worse sport than your list is now when Malthouse was sacked (we only had Cripps to hang our hat on and no good kids coming through, unlike you guys)

LDU, Simpkin, Thomas and esp Zuuhaar are all (imho) certain to be elite/a grade footballers, hopefully Larkey and a couple of others too.
By the end of 2022, I certainly can see you guys as a very viable and attractive destination club (even if not at the end of 2021), so you just have to hang in there for a year or two more. It sucks and will be painful for a while, but I do believe your club and Shaw and Brady Rawlings are doing the right thing for your club by bottoming out for the first time in the AFL and no more topping up/quick fix solutions.

Lol,

I guess that doesn't suit the narrative does it?

Honestly who cares what the offer is , Just be happy you guys are getting a quality player thats an automatic best 22 for the next 6-7 years that can play multiple positions. Great Get or the Blues IMO

So whats all this noise about his club GWS having a 5 x $750k thats being reported ?

Those figures came from you and another Richmond poster in this thread. Not sure who else was "reporting" that "noise".

Either way, we got our man.

I made the comment on the North board earlier if this was a year or two ago we would have been well over with the money. Good signs from the new Rawlings regime that they're being more sensible than to blow out the money on finishing products when the base isn't there yet (eg Polec). For you guys it's more logical.

Yup exactly. We have missed out on too many players nice change to actually get our man. Not like we are undepaying anyone right now

LOL so I made these figures up or another Richmond supporter , WOW
you might want to 1st read back and 2 listen to whats being reported in the media

Please dont quote my posts you really add nothing and just dribble.

Thats exactly my point , Richmond went through times where we were paying players like Maguane $600k just to meet min cap and paying younger players who didnt deserve it top $$$.

You need to spend the cash and chances are Carlton have been front ending Cripps ,Curnow,MacKay,Weitering etc for the last 2-3 years and will have space in the cap to get him and another. Last year Coniglio & Papley were chased and had the cap space another year on they would have more so who really cares if its $800k or $900k.

People seem to always want to believe other clubs have over paid whilst their clubs got a bargain, Fact is the dollars are probably $50k apart for player coming from another club. Its a different story keeping your own as they usually do take 20% less to remain

Go back 2 pages. Only 2 posters spouted 750k. You're 1 of them.

Feel free to link anywhere in the media that someone quoted GWS as offering what you've mentioned.

Think you are confused, that is what he is signing for to play for us.

Where the hell are GWS finding 750k a year for williams with cameron, kelly, cogs all on 1mil+
It was reported yesterday that his club upped their offer to $750k but the offers from north and carlton were in the $850k-$900k and today in the age was mentioned that Carltons offer was the highest

Yeah nah, not possible while maintaining the cap if GWS even have one
Honestly i have no horse in this race and have only posted about what a good fit for carlton he would be regardless of the price, The numbers being mentioned have been repeated multiple times and even now as i speak they are talking about this with wayne campbell on SEN
Was all over the Foxtel talk shows as well and lets be honest that is the type of money paid to move players.

Cambo and Bob just mentioned again the $900k ammount

Of course they did, likely gets 900k next year and they run with that but no way the average across the contract is that high its been stated by more reputable sources on our board then journos looking for a headline.

Yeah, heard those numbers on On The Couch last night I'm pretty sure.

Well he is a free agent and we will all know what his deal is then at the moment all we are doing is going by whats being reported
But all i will say is that if say $4.5 mil over 5 years is the deal then that would mean that his club wouldnt be that far off it and the $750k reported amount would be about right.

Time will tell
