It's happening.
Pickett and Bolton in the same forward line would be unfair on the rest of the comp.
Not me, would prefer Warner over Pickett. He’s a much better player. Though our list requires a pressure small. The difference between Switkowski and Pickett is smaller than the difference between Johnson / Erasmus and Warner.
The idea our midfield is elite is far from the truth. The games against Collingwood, Hawthorn, Essendon showed we are vulnerable in the middle. Even the first derby they got smashed by Elliot Yeo.
every teams midfield has games where they get smashed, statistically, our midfield is indeed elite that is no myth. weve also added bolton who plays in a very similar mould to warner anyway.
A guy like Yeo getting off the chain wont be stopped by adding Warner. You need someone to big and strong enough to play accountable on the bigger aggressive mids.
Yeo does that occasionally.
Warner is the last thing a team wants if other teams are getting on top in the middle. He's so damaging because he's taking liberties forward of contests, which is not how you stop teams getting a run on.
We'd want Warner to punish teams when we do get on top, which is most of the time to be fair to us. Especially when Darcy plays.
IMO Warner as a goal kicking mid is a better fit for Freo. I live Kozzy and don’t want to lose him but that’s not why I’m saying this. Warner kicked 35 goals in 2024 and 70 across the past 3 season. You don’t pass up on mids like that IMO. Mids who can impact forward of centre are the most valuable players IMO.
Agree with you in part, Warner is not a massive defensive liability, like say Fyfe was this year because his top speed was a jog, same with JOM, except he can’t even win contested ball in tight like Fyfe.
Warner can chase, not as good as Pickett, but he can chase. I don’t think Pickett at 171cm and 73kg is a beast either. He chases with intent and has excellent lateral movement to put defenders under pressure, but he’s not going to out muscle many players.
Pickett is very similar to Ballantyne. Warner is top 10 player in the league.

I don't think you realise how dire our small forward stocks are, Pickett is a must.
You literally just recruited Bolton. I beg to differ. The addition of Warner to your midfield would huge. IMO if you are lucky enough to have a choice, Warner is the way to go.

Warner is the best player of Bolton, Pickett and himself but there is a bit of overlap with Bolton who will spend 30% on ball hopefully as our goal kicking mid. Then there is the capital cost in picks and cap and it's an easy choice (if you have that incredible luxury)
Warner as an uncontracted player will possibly be same price picks wise if not less than Pickett next year given the contract situation.
Agree Warner the best out of the three players.

it's 2 first rounders for Kozzie so melbourne would be justifiably paid. but obviously lose out overall.

We've got Barrett already offering up 50 top 10 picks from WC to get it done in trade week. While he's an idiot, WC in particular seem to be very very giving in trades. I think if it was us, assuming we make finals, its 3 1sts for Warner where we would probably get away with two for Pickett if he made enough fuss and Melbourne would let him go.
It's a fair point though.and I'm more worried about the cap cost to be honest.
Fyfe is a defensive liability, but Warner is not a good defensive player either. Not only that, but you wouldn't use Warner to defend because its a massive waste.
Ballantyne would be massive for our forwardline.
Picket is great because he's basically Switkowski defensively but can actually kick goals.

huh..? you just lost Bolton and got 2 firsts but you think a contracted Pickett won't? Spare me. It's easily 2 firsts. Freo wouldnt even start negotiations at 1. If anything dees would start at 3 firsts with a future first going back to Freo. i.e. the Bolton deal.
What are you on about? I never mentioned anything about the trade price.

Okay so we have Bolton.....that's where the buck stops.
One elite small forward isn't enough, plus Bolton will be rotating through the midfield.
Outside of Bolton, our small forwards are:
Walters: Past it
Narkle: Solid depth player
Switkowski: Good but not a consistent goal scorer
Simpson: Not quite ready
DeLean: Nowhere near ready
Our medium and key forward stocks are fine, but we're in dire need of good small forward talents. Pickett helps massively.
A contracted Kozzy and we’re looking at 2 firsts. Unless Freo ended up took an unlikely slide down the ladder.
Freo's like that 'friend zone' bloke, who's trying his hardest for something more with Warner(paying for his stay, uninvited, at Crown), whilst he's clearly got his eyes set on his true love interest(WCE), as evidenced by his numerous golf rounds with Pyke whenever he's in Perth
