Another point, the African lads are mad about soccer, there are four in the World Cup squad alone. I wouldn't be surprised in twenty years time the Socceroos squad isn't that dissimilar to the current French squad with a lot of African migrant influence.
Just as the "golden generation" was full of Serbians (Croatians? one, or the other, I forget which).

A few quick names:

Schwarzer German background
Moore Scottish
Aloisi Italian
Kewell English
Breaciano Italian
Viduka Croatian
Emerton pretty sure multiple generation Aussie
Cahill Samoan

Was a very eclectic mix.

We have seen their influence with Adelaide United... tall, quick & powerful.

We could do with a couple up front for the Soceroos in the future...

Arguable that Australian Rules has dominance over soccer as a sport here at a national level

$40m/year TV rights v $643m/year. Soccer Australia is presently a minnow in terms of the Australian sporting landscape. Total interest in soccer vastly outweighs interest in the local league, but they've never been able to leverage that to meaningfully bridge the gap. And that deal takes into account all local, international and Asian stuff except the World Cup. Again, it might improve further, but we've been hearing about the imminent takeover for decades.

You’re getting sports confused with leagues again

OK... "full of" wasn't the right wording. "Dominated by" would have been better. Something like 60% of our Socceroo players in that period were born in Serbia. Congratulations on naming the other 40%.
Hahah rubbish just stop you don't know **** all on this topic.

Jesus jog on mate. You're pretty wrong on all counts

That's not 1.56 million people attending... it's 120k, each attending 13x. Call it 150k, given that there's a core of season attendees, supported by a smaller number of irregular attendances.

In contrast, an average attendance of 31k for H&A games equates to 558k attending - call it 700k people once you take season/irregular attendees into account.

The AFL has roughly 5x as many individuals attending games as the A-League.

** While the A-League didn't exist 20 years ago, its predecessor (the National Soccer League) did. Soccer has had a national competition since at least 1977, in one form or another.

Still a lot more people than there was 20 years ago. The difference between the previous national competitions and the A-league is the same as the difference between AFL and AFLX.

The fact is that the world game is growing and the AFL is right to be nervous.

Particularly in SA I've never seen anti AFL sentiment as high as it is here

Viduka/Culina/Sterjoski - Croatian
Chipperfield/Kewell- British
Grella/Bresciano - Italian
Cahill - British / Samoan
Schwarzer - German
Neil - Irish

Pretty diverse.
Pretty reflective of Australian cultural diversity...
