Player Watch Harley Reid

Seemingly has enormous talent and potential but is also incredibly undisciplined, was 2nd for free kicks against by average last year, gave away a staggering 7 today against the Lions.

He also decided to flip the bird to the Lions crowd this week, suggesting he's still got some maturing to do.

He isn't the first extremely talented player to buy into the hype around him and he won't be the last but its where he goes from here thats interesting.

Dusty did a tour of GWS before deciding to knuckle down and become one of the players of his generation, we're not at that stage yet for Harley but a few more petulant performances and we could start seeing the fickle media come for him.

Or, who knows, maybe he's taking a page from the JHF go home book.

What do we all think?

Not seeing anything worthy of the 3 or 4 first rounders that WC supporters say he's worth. Not saying he won't become that player, but as it stands he's not exactly setting the world on fire.

I'd be pretty dissapointed if Essendon paid a bunch of picks for him as it currently stands.
We probably have 1, 2 and 3 atm.

Not professional enough. Or he's injured.

There are blokes running around in country footy in better physical shape than Harley. He's just a genetic freak from a strength and explosiveness perspective.

If you watched the game you'd know most of those frees against were rubbish and he's clearly officiated differently to everybody else. Needs to regain a bit of focus no doubt but he's only 19 and copping unprecedented levels of attention and had an injury interupted pre season so I think he will build into the season.

Need someone from the club to publicly call out some of the treatment he's getting though because the media and umpires have been ridiculous so far this year, almost as if they're trying to make his life harder for some reason...

Needs someone from the club to tell him to pull his head in. He's currently getting the Collingwood Jack Ginnivan treatment because he is playing for frees and arguing etc. When he focused on playing the ball today he looked great. Broke through a tackle from Lachie Neale and McLuggage, kept his feet and I think the inside 50 ended up in a goal. If he throws his arms out and goes to ground that play doesn't happen.

And yes he is regularly held onto at contests, bumped after disposing of the ball etc. but no one gives a shit because an unhappy Reid is better for clickbait journos.

Someone from the club or in the media should call out the off the ball stuff Reid cops publicly, thats what it took for opposition to stop with Daicos, Reid needs the same.
That would make a huge difference to how he is allowed to act on field, his attitude, etc
They haven't stopped on Daicos. He just keeps on going.
Reid just lacks the maturity at the moment.

Probably also hates playing for a bottom team.

Good example of why 3 year draft contracts don’t work in reality.

If a talented player wants out you end up with a situation like this. A frustrated talented player wasting his and the clubs time that gets emotions involved and drags everyone involved down.

Instead of everyone just accepting it come years end and him moving on which is looking inevitable, there will be posturing from WCE for 10,000,000 draft index points and telling Reid he ain’t going anywhere without someone selling the world, and Reid getting hostile towards the club.

Forcing one extra year of these scenarios doesn’t benefit anyone involved and only makes the break ups longer and more bitter

Daicos has done 4 pre-seasons and is an elite runner.

Reid is 12kg heavier (on paper, looks more) and reportedly had an interrupted pre-season.

He doesn't have the capacity to run opponents into the ground.
He didn’t have an interrupted pre season, he is just not enjoying WCE. Clearly doesn’t want to be there and isn’t going to put in the effort

"A situation like this"?

It's 2 games into his second season, you have no clue what's going to happen so just let play out.
