BB replaces Lynch
Breust replaces Shiels
Shiels replaces Phillips as sub
Chad to spend more time on midfield rotation.
Day given another week at BH to regain fitness

Toss up between Shiels and Finn to be left out but I see no point in omitting Finn after one game especially when he seemed to grow in confidence as the match went on

I can't see Worps being left out just yet. Give him an opportunity to turn it around. He would know he had a poor game
This is my thinking too.

I also believe that Sam is deliberately testing Worpel/JOM/Tom in other positions to determine how much they will play moving forward. He won't abandon the test after a week, and needs more data to see whether they can competently play alternate roles.

Thought he was pretty good, used his body well, didn't find much footy but his presence was big.

But tbh it's between him, Shiels and Maginness and Finn was just as instrumental, his gut running late in the game and through key moments was huge.
Completely disagree. Worpel at most risk at the moment. Sam talks about elite attributes. Nash has presence with his body and Finn endurance. Worpel is competing against Mitchell and at the moment Mitchell is ahead.

Based on performance:

OUT - Worpel (WOG), Lynch (concussion)
IN - Breust, Big Boy

If Day is ready then someone will be unlucky. Maybe one of Ward, Phillips, Shiels or MacDonald, all of which did some nice things. Credit to them, Phillips was good when he came on and Shiels had a solid game.

Hopefully Wingard is fit enough so that with Breust coming back he can move into the middle.
Has to be Shiels

Gonna be an interesting trade period come seasons end 😬

It's hard to find a spot for BigBoy, Punky and Will.

B: Blake Hardwick, Sam Frost, Denver Grainger-Barras
HB: Changkuoth Jiath, James Sicily, Jack Scrimshaw
C: Josh Ward, Jai Newcombe, Tom Mitchell
HF: Chad Wingard, Dylan Moore, Luke Breust
F: Jack Gunston, Mitch Lewis, Ben McEvoy
R: Ned Reeves, Jaeger O'Meara, Conor Nash

Int from : Will Day, Liam Shiels, Harry Morrison, Connor Macdonald, Finn Maginness, James Worpel, Tom Phillips

Me: looking at that Interchange...

Personally I like the 1st 4 players you mentioned in Day Shiels Morrison and McDonald. You could raffle the remaining 3 as the sub.

Or having extra mids could be a way to give experience and run out games well. Don’t see what shells did wrong, and if he did, where’s his op to turn it around

I don’t think he did anything wrong. I just think he was lucky to get a spot due to a lot of experience being out. McEvoy and Breust will be selected if fit, so we don’t have such an imperative to retain Shiels for his experience. I would be dropping either him or Worpel, but erred in Sheils as I think Mitchell will give Worpel another chance.

Frost vs Finalyson
Grainger-Barras vs Marshall
Sicily vs Georgiadis
Hardwick vs Gray
Jiath vs Rozee

Right now, Georgiadis is Port Adelaide’s most dangerous forward. Sicily is the perfect matchup.

Who will tag Wines?

I reckon you put Nash on him and just ask him to do what he does and hold his space, without asking him to do a hard tag. Wines you need to stop getting a run at the ball in stoppages because at 189cm 100+ kg he's a tough lad to stop.

Gee, tough selection headaches this week. I imagine Sam would LOVE to keep Finn in the side (I would too) - you just need to give him a crack to develop more confidence.

IN: McEvoy, Bruest
OUT: Lynch, (I don't know)

Then there's Will Day... it might be the easier choice to allow him another week at Box Hill so we don't have to omit one of the youngsters.

Ehhh, I dunno.
Weak. Drop someone

Shiels might have been told over preseason you will have limited games. There are times we need momentum building in the kids. Dropping them after a win serves no purpose. Who knows maybe Shiels is playing the on field coach seeing what is working and not working. He has played alongside genius players and know their traits and craft. If I was Sam I would be asking what he thinks is working out there and what isn't. He may come across as introverted but fact is he has been a loyal servant and if anyone could sense what is working or not working out there Shiels can .

Agree, you shouldn't be messing around with the lineup after a win.

But Punky and Day are automatic INs when fit.

i know it is too early to predict with much to back it up, however, I think the player that may be offered up (or may choose to leave for more midfield minutes) is Worpel.

I love him, but can see he may be sacrificed if he cannot regain his mojo in the next 3 months. Needs to get that excitement back.

He now has quite a few young players pushing him and most have better core skills such as kicking. Hope not, but just a feeling.

If Nash plays and negates Wines it further cements his value in the midfield. He is a big ass mofo who can run all day.

If Day can make a return the quality of CJ's then we're right in this one. Port pretty vulnerable in terms of injuries. They'll still be favourites but we're not without a shot here.

McEvoy for Lynch

Bruest for ??? I guess Phillips, Magginess are most likely but I was happy enough with both their contributions. So not sure here. No way Worps or Wingard get dropped as has been suggested (at this early stage, IMO).

Hope DGB stays despite some nay sayers. Thought he did enough. Not much of the pill but not really required. I guess Dixon playing or not will determine how much thought they give to Hartigan.

Would love to see Day but maybe 1-2 more runs at Box Hill before coming in??

Getting a little tired of 'won't happen' as a response to Worpel being dropped. I get that in reality this is most likely - but I would be hoping in this new era that we are done with the Clarko way of doing things where players get a run based on credits in the bank.

Nash and Jaeger, while limited with their touches, played their roles as required on Sunday and did the team thing often. Also - Nash may have only had 10 disposals, but he went at 100% DE, made 7 tackles, 3 clearances had score involvements with 50% of his disposals and was able to do some pinch hitting in the ruck. Nash did his job. I haven't re-watched the game yet but having been at the game I couldn't pick out one thing that Worpel did that would warrant his selection this week. He's coming off a lacklustre pre-season in terms of the practice games and two seasons where he has regressed from his 2019 best and fairest form. Nash, Finn, Shiels and Jaeger all did enough to not warrant being dropped - I have my criticisms of Mitchell but he wasn't droppable either.
I don't get why people are itching to drop Morrison, are glad to see the back of Howe but keep defending Worpel when brought next to nothing to the table on Sunday. I want Worps to be 2019 Worps for us as much as any Hawthorn supporter - but based on form this year he can not be selected over Finn, Nash, Ward, MacDonald, Newcombe, Shiels, Morrison or whoever your favourite whipping boy might be.

Based on what I saw Sunday - if Worpel wants to show that he is part of our future then he can have a run with Box Hill and show how badly he wants to fight for his senior spot, not just get it on tenure.

I'm not sure it won't happen.... I'd just be surprised if it happened after round 1.

No better time if you ask me. Send a signal to the young list that you won't be in the side via your reputation. If the key to regaining 2018/19 Worpel is sending him back to Box Hill for a couple of weeks then it could be a good thing all round.

I think this season we will regrettably see the end of Shiels - so Worps can basically put a target on his back and come for him. But if Ward and MacDonald can handle the seniors and are showing they are capable of getting the job done I think it will be better for their development to learn around the core of players they will be coming through with. At this rate I don't think any of Finn, Ward or MacDonald underperformed Worpel on the day so all 3 should not be under threat of making way for Day this week - they should be playing with him.

I want Worps to be part of our future - when he is on I really like what he can do and if he and Newc can get a combination going where they are both big bodied midfielders who can go forward and kick a goal then it will help our side immensely. But at this present time I think he should be made to show he wants to be a part of that future as much as we want it for him.

Also there may be soreness we don’t know of. It all might take care of itself

Phillips got a fair run, so could go sub again, or Day could

On re watching, worps was very rusty early, but got a couple of passes to connect inside 50 by the end (he was looking where he was kicking😀)
